I Met Lou Reed (and Laurie Anderson) Tonight
MattZ replied to boywiththorninside's topic in Someone Else's Song
For the longest time I thought Lou Reed was married to Loni Anderson. Yeah. That Loni Anderson. It never really made all that much sense to me, but hey, who can argue with love? Let's just say my friends haven't stopped laughing yet. -
Yeah, I am frankly stunned that this is even up for debate.

From today's NYPost: http://www.nypost.com/seven/09202007/sport...howing_wear.htm A-ROD'S CLUTCH SHOWING WEAR By BRIAN COSTELLO September 20, 2007 -- Signs of Fall are everywhere. The temperature has dipped, leaves are beginning to change colors and Alex Rodriguez looks tighter than Britney Spears' pants. The Yankee third baseman went 0-for-4 last night, making him 3-for-29 in his last eight games. No one can knock the MVP-caliber season Rodriguez is having, but as he's learned in his first three years in The Bronx, his season ultimately will be measured by what he does during the Yank

I love how ARod is something like 4 for 29 in the last few games and you can already hear yankee fans saying "here we go again."

I bought tix to the opening night premiere of this at the Film Forum in NYC. But since I am an idiot I forgot to check my calendar and didnt realize it's the night before Thanksgiving and I am out of town. I get a discount rate since I am a member at the film forum so if anyone's interested, I am happy to give em up at the discount rate that I paid. 2 tix for $13.00. I really cant wait for this release. I am almost as excited about the soundtrack...

Yeah, but I guess my point (in part) was that I loved the Stubbs show and my friends didn't. So I dont know if that makes the Stubbs show a hit or a miss. And I wonder how much of the general consensus of his show being hit or miss is based solely on the people you ask and what they are expecting when they get there. I guess it always depends on that, though. Either way, it was definitely a hit for me.

I was at the show on Sat pm also with some friends and I loved it as much as you did. But my friends had many of the same complaints that those at ACL on Sunday had. So i wonder if the two sets just sounded the same and you and I were willing to cut Bob more slack? I am not sure. My friends complained after the Stubbs show that his voice was completely shot, that they didnt like how every song had to be re-arranged as a blues tune (even the ones that werent blues tunes to begin with), and that he was imposssible to understand. I didnt stick around for the ACL set because I had seen him a

I am going to try to stop by. I live right near there.

I think Willie Randolph manages by Ouija board.

Me three. And this is why I hang here.

Who do you think makes the setlists from night to night? If you think think Wilco's setlists are static arent you also saying that Wilco is static? Wilco makes a decision about what to play each night and you think that decision is static. I took that to be a complaint about the band. Brah.

Unless I am confused or misunderstanding you, let me get something straight. You started a topic about how your love of this band knows no bounds. And then proceeded to spend the next 3 pages complaining about how lame and static they and their live shows are? Don't get me wrong, you have every right to critique whatever and whenever. But, um, EDIT: I dont mean to suggest that fans cant find things wrong with the band, but it just seemed odd to me that your initial passionate post was then followed by so many critiques. FWIW, I saw the band this weekend and got some nice surprises th

What a great time. Found this on Youtube, too:

I disagree. It may not be the perfect analogy, but in baseball, a third base coach goes to his cap, his nose, his elblow, his chest, his crotch etc and in many situations it's just one of those movements that signals the play. And one of those signals can wipe out everything that came before it. First, someone with a pen and paper wouldn't be able to write all those movements down quickly enough so a video camera is a real difference and advantage. And second, a video camera allows you to take the film into the clubhouse at halftime and play and rewind, play and rewind, compare and cont

I am surprised every time I hear something new in YHF or AGIB. And this happens every time I listen to YHF or AGIB carefully.

All the pats fans I know that were lightning quick to email me to rub in Sunday's loss seem to have forgotten how to use their email in the short span of 48 hours. Weird.

Dave Eggers as sort of like a saint of sorts
MattZ replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I once read that Heinz contacted JoeD when he had hit in 50 straight games or so and promised him a big payoff and spokesman privileges if he hit in 57 straight. We all know how that ended. And then he hit in something like another 20 games after that. I still prefer Heinz to any of the others but I always keep a suspicious eye on that company. They jinxed JoeD and I wont ever forget it. -
I have one more story to share (sorry)... AGIB just seemed like the perfect album for today, as I discussed with a couple of people (including SirStewart in a PM -- thanks again SirS). The general feeling of today in NYC, the grey and rainy weather, etc. I listened to it twice at work and Less Than You Think was particularly powerful today. Wasnt sure why, but I got choked up listening to it. So then, I leave work to head home tonight. And I had somehow forgotten about the most intense part of these 9/11 anniversaries. The two blue lights that shine at night up to the heavens from whe

I think I posted an open letter of sorts on here awhile back. Maybe soon after I joined? Thanking Jeff for playing two free solo shows at the Downtown Rising concert series in Tribeca a couple of years ago. Looking back and remembering how wonderful those two nights were is the only way I can stomach walking down Church Street or Chambers Street nowadays. My most recent memories of that neighborhood are happy ones of hanging out waiting to get in to the shows, grabbing beers before the show, walking out of the shows elated, etc. It helps that now, my most recent memories of that neighborh

totally. I bought 3 tix in total (1 for a friend) and I already envision an argument about when we leave the festival to wait in line at stubbs. Boo, hiss. Thanks peeps. And sorry to hijack this thread...

Seeing my main man Bob Dylan at a 2000 person GA venue seems like once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal. But leaving a festival that I bought tickets to seems silly. Especially when I think that I will be standing at the show pre-Dylan waiting for him to come out, while other bands are kicking ass at the festival. Ugh. This is a good problem to have, yes, I know, but a frustrating one too. Rats.
-
Dang nabbit. Thanks, though.
-
Yeah, and now I only miss Arcade Fire to go see Dylan at Stubbs. What's with the night shows, anyway? Why are the doors for Stubbs at 8pm if Arcade Fire will be playing at the festival at that time? I am an ACL noob, but it seems silly to do it this way. Is this how it always works? Or can I get to Stubbs later?

I used to work in those buildings and knew scores of people there that day. Thankfully, they all got out ok. I still don't go down there unless I have to. The only thing more upsetting than seeing that hole in the ground is seeing the people taking pictures of it. And the street vendors selling buttons and bumper stickers. This is tough day. I have been choked up a couple of times already.
