  1. "Exactly what do you want me to be?"
  2. Thank god for the Onion. I needed the Onion today.
  3. See? Mr. Rain and I agree on some things. I think the steroids folks deserve some slack -- with the news of Ankiel/Glaus last week it was particularly relevant again. I think we are all ready to get back to the play on the field though...
  4. I have tix to the National on saturday night. I just can't make up my mind. Can I possibly pass up the chance to see Dylan at a 2000 GA capacity club? Seems like heresy...
  5. Wow. Thanks for the update. Bummed its not Wilco, but hey, I can't really complain with this announcement.
  6. The point I was trying to make, perhaps inartfully, was the one Lammycat made above. They both cheated and in that respect its the same -- I have no problem throwing Bonds and Ankiel out of the game (if Bonds were caught red handed). Or tossing both of their stats if there was a way to tie it back. But Bonds' transgressions have a larger impact on the game as a whole and the sanctity of its records. That's what I meant... Bonds' home run record always will have question marks, asterisks, and doubters -- even though he was a star and a HOFer prior to his steroids use. And those questio
  7. I dont know what people have said that. And I don't know why it's so hard to understand that people might be more upset about treasured records falling to steroids users than run of the mill dudes like Ankiel or Guillermo Mota cheating. Yes, its all cheating and yes it all cheapens the game, but there's a difference in the minds of many fans. News that Clemens and Bonds are cheaters would be a bigger deal than Ankiel and Mota cheating.
  8. CNN/SI is reporting that Glaus is tied to HGH too... Jeeezus.
  9. If you think that Bonds cheating and Ankiel cheating are the same thing because they both cheated, well, I fully disagree. But whatever.
  10. I heard/read somewhere that the Rangers set the record for runs scored in a double header. Before the second game started.
  11. what do people think of the various demos/bootlegs floating around? Where to start there? I downloaded them from some kind person who posted them here and was saving them for a rainy day. Well, it rained yesterday, and I put on the Destroyer Sessions and the first song just about knocked me flat. Unbelievable.
  12. Single-handedly proving that steroids impact a pitcher's performance as much as a hitter's...
  13. I think drugs color the art, but don't cause it. I mean, Sgt Pepper wouldn't be Sgt Pepper without the drugs. Obviously. But if there hadn't been drugs in those sessions, there would have just been a different album. And I am certain I would have loved it as much if not more.
  14. Fair point- I goofed on Castillo. But this discussion started with your reference to the "Florida Marlins of Queens" and a comment from Bjorn that the Marlins develop great talent and can't keep them. So my point (maybe unclear?) was that all the former Marlins on the Mets were players developed elsewhere (i.e., not in Florida). And that the Marlins were simply too cheap to keep them. Like I said, I was wrong with Castillo. LoDuca, Alou, Delgado, etc. were not players developed by the Marlins that the Mets swept in and stole for a higher price. In fact, I think of LoDuca as a Dodger,
  15. Nah, what I mean is, I love it. And I've just accepted that some don't. Ain't nothing wrong with it. So, I will just call them big dummyheads or doofuses and be done with. They don't have to write a song that compares to Nettie Moore for me to eat crow. Nettie Moore will still be a great song to me either way, and it won't be to them.
  16. People who don't like Modern Times are doofuses. That's how I rationalize things.
  17. It sure does. Such a wonderful album. NP: Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One
  18. Eh, I don't buy it. At least the development part. Alou, Castillo, Delgado, LoDuca, Conine, etc. These guys weren't developed there. The Marlins were just too cheap to keep them.
  19. Those people are casual fans. Which is what the NBA is marketed to these days. For $$. And its also why dunks are celebrated and turn-around jumpers aren't. And why jumbotrons have to instruct people at games to MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!! A game that is marketed and sold to the casual fan is a different kind of game than the type of game that a die-hard fan may want to see. And it's why I prefer college to NBA.
