Bummer of an article. That being said, vinyl appears to be making a bit of a comeback, in NYC at least. I spent last Saturday flipping through bins of new vinyl in 4 different stores in the Village. I know NYC isn't the average market for this stuff, but I was very surprised to see how much new music comes out on vinyl these days, and how much older stuff is being reissued. For instance, I think virtually all of Ryan Adams' back catalog is being reissued later this month on vinyl.

This is what the higher-ups in all forms of government do. They protect their own. Democracies are no different. It would not have mattered whether Bush was in the fold or not. Or to what degree. The chief of staff of the vice president was never going to serve time. Fitzgerald was on a taxpayer funded 2 year circle jerk. EDIT: Now, it would be pretty awesome if this completely inept administration also screwed up the commutation resulting in Libby having to go to jail. THAT would be poetic justice.

Odd coincidences notwithstanding, Clinton has never given (what I consider to be) a good explanation for the Rich pardon. Especially given Rich's ex-wife's $$ contributions. Of course Rich's lawyer is going to argue for a pardon. That's what lawyers do. It's their job. The fact that Libby was the lawyer there is a red herring in my eyes. Libby's "demand" for a pardon does not cleanse what Clinton did. Clinton should have known that this is exactly the sort of response he would get from Tony Snow and the rest of the right. And it allows the right to shrug their shoulders and focus on w

Bill Clinton is not helping matters here. I understand his point, but this shifts the focus.

Happy birthday! I hope the Marlins win 100 games this year. (and the mets win 101).

I don't know about best ever, but I absolutely adore this track and I agree that it is the perfect closer to the album. And I love the Beatle-esque backing yeahs and oh yeahhs in the last half of the song.

Music 'critics' with their head up their collective a$$es
MattZ replied to W(TF)'s topic in Just A Fan
Today my favorite lyric is: embracing the situation is our only chance to be free. Yesterday my favorite lyric was: would you and I be undefeated by agreeing to disagree. Tomorrow it will probably be something different. I love the lyrics on this album. -
I thought the Wilco/Reprise thing was done to sell more movies?

Ryan Adans vs Jeff Tweedy contrasting record reviews

I don't think people who don't like SBS are wrong. And I dont think Jeff thinks that either. -
Ryan Adans vs Jeff Tweedy contrasting record reviews

I would care. But I wouldn't care as much because I am much more interested in trying to understand why someone disagrees with me as opposed to agreeing with me. But that being said, I tend to think that most album reviews and the reviewers themselves aren't all that good. And I think it's because of the cliches thrown out on both sides. Every new Son Volt album doesnt have to be the best one since Trace. The new Spoon album is great, but it doesn't have to be their best yet. Sorry Stephen King, but Easy Tiger is not Ryan Adams' best ever. In the end, I probably wouldn't start a threa -

If you are someone who gets paid to listen to music and write about it? Yes, I think you could do better. If you are good at what you do, at least. I think it's too easy for a rock critic to simply trot out his/her opinion spiced up with standard cliches like this is a recovery album. For instance, instead of telling me that Either Way is boring -- tell me why. For me, the lyrics, the imagery and the chord progressions of Either Way are beautiful. Its a perfect way to start the journey that is SBS because it sets a tone of hope and imagery that circles throughout the album. Even the mu -

The problem that I have with these negative reviews of SBS and the reviewers themselves, is not that they are telling me something that I disagree with. It's that they all seem to do it in the same way -- by telling me that the album is filled with light rock and wussy tunes and average lyrics. I don't hear that. I hear the opposite actually. So, if a reviewer is going to get on a soap box about the limitations of an album, it would be nice to read something that does a better job of communicating what/why/how instead of trotting out the same old tired cliches. This does not sound like t -
No. His biggest crime was obstructing justice and lying to investigators in the probe of a leak of classified information. His family? Really? The guy broke the law. He brought this on his own family. The Cheney angle is there without doubt, but Libby made his bed and he doesn't have to sleep in it. Any shame he brought on his family was of his own doing.

I don't buy it Crowjack. He might as well have been pardoned. I understand he still pays the fine, but so what? His life isn't ruined. You don't think he ends up with a job at some conservative think tank in DC? Or in the RNC if he wants? And he'll gets a nice payday to write a book about his ordeal.

Does this surprise anyone?

It's hard for me to see how a GM with no payroll limitations and 6 (going on 7) straight years of no World Series victories can be viewed as anything other than a failure. The Yankee payroll virtually guarantees a playoff spot -- even if I was the GM. The real measuring stick of the GM with an unlimited payroll shoudn't be whether the team gets to the playoffs, but whether that team wins the World Series. I know that's rough, and it feeds into the whole annoying Yankee fan syndrome of anything less than a championship being a failure, but how can the standard be anything other than that?

I'd be interested to know what the bomb squad detonated -- whether it was a real threat or someone's handbag that they forgot in the lobby or waiting area.

The NY tabloids are interpreting this most recent Yankee slide and relative silence from the owner's suite as irrefutable proof that Steinbrenner is completely senile now. That's the only explanation for why someone hasnt been fired.

I saw this on Saturday at the Film Forum in NYC and loved it. I need to go to that theater more often.
