Haha, I think I said the same thing in the TSwift-KWest thread. Everyone is talking about Kimmel right now. It's a windfall for him. Of course he was going to do this!
-
Yeah, I guess this is what I am getting at. Leno couldn't have possibly thought that Kimmel would just make a couple of not-too-nasty jokes and everyone would just chuckle and move on.
-
Am I the only one who thinks this was all staged? (the Kimmel/Leno thing, I mean)
-
Oh, I didn't mean to suggest simplistic or child-like at all. Just that he doesn't leave much to the imagination. He's very literal. Nothing wrong with it. These are hardly childish themes he's dealing with.

I happen to dig the band, but I can understand why someone wouldn't. As I said above, there's very little subtlety to the lyrics -- even if there's some great lyrics and one-liners. And musically, there's not much complexity and some of the songs can end up sounding samey. These are all issues that I can get past because there are other virtues (for me) that make up for it. But it wouldn't surprise me if someone couldn't. As for End Times, I agree with what everyone here is saying. The song Nowadays inspired me to pull out my guitar and harmonica. Some bands make me want to go grab my

This guy likes it. eta: no one will ever accuse E of lyrical subtlety, and while I find it to be a bit of a knock at times, there's no denying that some of this stuff is flat out devastating.
-
in fairness, what I meant is that I don't really care enough about any of this to get dragged into a back and forth with you (or anyone else) about it. And here I am dragged into one. I was poking at myself, not you. Sorry, twobobs.

Nice try Mr. Funny/Predictable.

I probably shouldn't engage you on this bobbob, but of course, I will, and maybe the simple answer here is that Conan just wants to do the Tonight Show on NBC? And he was promised it, and signed a contract to do it? Sure, NBC can cancel the contract, and he will still get paid, but maybe this isn't about money for him? Maybe that's how Conan is getting screwed? Of course, NBC can do whatever they want, and all's fair in TV-land, but I think most impartial observers would say that Conan didn't get a fair shot -- even if his show was doing poorly. And of course, if NBC pays him, they aren'

This post is funny, in a really predictable way.

Maybe he was afraid of obstruction of justice charges? Maybe not. Looks like it hasn't been quite 5 yrs yet, either, according to Winston's link. I was just regurgitating the news from this am. Let's give McGwire the benefit of the doubt!
-
I think his miraculous change of heart and desire to come clean somehow coincided with the statute of limitations expiring. 5 years. I heard it on the news this morning. Stand up guy, this McGwire.
-
I can never trust any of my initial impressions, so let's just say that I am thoroughly enjoying this. And I liked GaGaGaGa but I found that it didn't have much staying power. Really looking forward to this new one on vinyl.
-
Amazing what not getting into the Hall of Fame will do to some. Fuck McGwire.
-
AP is reporting that McGwire admits to steroid use throughout his career.

Congrats SpeedRacer! Looking forward to pics. -
Dude, you are being self-righteous and emotional about insisting that Alomar should get in! (And in telling me not to be self-righteous and emotional about telling Alomar to go fuck himself). As others have said (me included), he will get in. If Alomar didn't get in, and by such a small margin, I'd say it's the off the field stuff that kept him out. Just like McGwire. That's all I meant by the analogy. Either way, I don't really care enough to let this linger. Let's move on.
-
Aren't you are being just as self-righteous? It's called being a fan. For me, it has to do with more than spitting in an ump's face. The guy showed a general disrespect for the game and the fans. My biased interpretation is that he didn't give a shit about the game, and didn't play hard when he was on the Mets. Spitting in an ump's face doesn't help my impression. Should stats be the only factor in the HOF? Maybe. We can argue about it. But I don't have a problem with voters looking at other issues too. And that's what is happening here. The guy is going to get in eventually.
-
Yeah, fuck Alomar.

I think the same thing. And you know, we probably could listen to them all the time. Seeing as how PROLIFIC Pollard is and all.
-
Well, like I said, I eventually came around, but sure. I thought it was a whole lot of fuss about nothing. I heard those songs, but I didn't hear them. And I definitely understand why some people dont like GBV. I am just glad that I saw the light.
-
If pictures are worth 1,000 words, I've got about a gazillion for this one. Damn that pic is great.
-
I hated GBV for a long time and all I had was B000. It was equal parts B000 and the insufferable Pollardites. I do love it now, but Alien Lanes is what made GBV/Pollard click for me. Specifically, As We Go Up, We Go Down. And yes, From a Compound Eye is the shiznit. Look it up.

Every wilco show I've seen was a show that explored material from each of their albums. Ok, maybe one or two shows didn't have something from AM, but still. The extended part sounds great, of course, but I don't think I've ever walked out of a wilco show thinking it was too short. Not trying to be snarky. I just really don't understand everyone's excitement (other than just the normal general excitement of a new tour being announced).
