I could never get into Galaxie500 so I never gave Luna a shot. Listening to Penthouse right now for the first time, and it's great. Thanks VC!

Ok, I will be the jerk that says 7 Up, etc. (Sorry).

Oh, whoops! Sorry JohnO.

I assume you meant that you don't get why people keep piling on? I don't think anyone has been defending her. I see your point, but my guess is that most liberals/democrats got burned back in 2000 when they underestimated whether someone like George W Bush could get elected. And then in 2004 when they underestimated whether it could happen again. We ain't taking chances this time, but yeah, you are probably right.

Maybe this is just my own bias or cynicism speaking, but I assume that Palin quit so that she wouldn't have to run for president in 2012 with a record of what she did as governor. The fewer facts that people can point to, the better. With the fall back plan being, of course, that she makes millions selling books and being a talking head, if the polls don't support a run in 2012. It's perfect. That makes her worse than a coward or a quitter in my book. Does anyone really believe that she quit to save taxpayers 300k? Other than JohnO, I mean?

As bobbob has pointed out, if Obama's hurdle among supporters is that he be better than Palin, many of Obama's supporters are even more cynical than I thought. Reducing Obama's positions/accomplishments to relative performance as opposed to absolute performance goes against everything he ran on and IMHO does more than anything else to ensure he loses the next election. I dont think record numbers of young voters and independents in 2008 were interested in relative performance. Nor will they be in 2012. It's a convenient way for Dems to comfort themselves but I think it's a dangerous path

agreed - he is one of my favorite guitarists for that reason alone. I love it.

well, I may not be crazy about the album, but this video is pretty great (written in reverse):

No, One Wing. Not even close.

Yes, exactly. Just wait. We'll end up with an administration expanding our wars, denying due process to detainees and US citizens, keeping Gitmo open, and ensuring that any healthcare reform doesn't have a public option.

Thanks again rowboat, and thanks rockinrob. Of course, I went ahead and ordered the Baggs M1A and then checked out rowboat's pickup shoot out link, and those K&Ks sound amazing. Man oh man. Maybe I will need to return the Baggs. EDIT: actually, it was this link on the same page as rowboat's link, if anyone is interested in hearing different acoustic pickups: http://www.maurysmusic.com/pickup_comparisons

what's got you down, jc4prez?

oh hell the fuck yeah

Thanks so much rowboat! Can I ask a few follow-ups? Haha, ok, so I see why I was confused. You are basically telling me that I might need a DI box and a preamp whether I get the passive or the active. But then what am I missing? What's the difference between a passive and an active pickup? Functionally, I mean? I will definitely check out the vintage jack if it allows me to avoid the 1/2" endpin cut. Here's where you lose me though -- the BaggsM1a does require the 1/2" endpin cut. So I don't really understand how you run a combo. You use the vintage jack with the K&K? Ho

I've gone through many of the helpful threads here on active v passive pickups, so I will try to keep my questions to issues that I didnt see answers to, or that are still unclear to me. I'd really appreciate any help that anyone can offer. One of my new year's resolutions was to get out and play more and to record more. If I want to hit some open mics, I've got to put a pickup on one of my acoustics. I've settled on LR Baggs from what I've heard, read, etc. But now I am trying to decide whether I want the passive or the active. Here are my questions: 1. When does one need a DI box?

I thought it was pretty good too. And the 12 min halftime show is one of the toughest things to pull off. But that wasn't The Who. You are right that you can't please everyone. That's for sure.

Because Daltrey/Townshend were performing songs that they wrote 40 years ago, when they were youngsters. Look man, I agree with you to a point. Music knows no age. But at the same time, they didn't rock it like you are suggesting. Daltrey couldn't hit those notes, Townshend had help (how many guitarists were there?), and two of the original members of the band were missing.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. I don't see ol' Bobby doing this.

It's hard for me to go so far as to say "bad" because if it's a band or artist that I love, there's always something redeeming about it. That being said, even Elvis Costello has said that Goodbye Cruel World sucks ass. And I bet Dylan would say the same thing about Under The Red Sky. In fairness, it probably has more to do with the production and the 80s in general than the songs themselves. Both albums have some great songs, actually. And both have a special certain place in my heart anyway. See this is why I can't do this.

Haha, well, I have tix to see the first two shows in NY, so I am going to find out first hand myself, too. As for whether it's true or not, most people that I know that saw them think it's true. Or, was true.

I thought I settled all of these issues for everyone pages ago.

Pavement was a pretty notoriously bad live band. I wonder how this tour plays out. Certainly looking forward to it.
-
where did you find this? Crazy shit.
-
Awesome. Just awesome.

I just hope she doesn't get all lazy and record her harp direct. Mic the amp for fuck's sake.
