  1. Wow, that dude must be all sorts of awesome.
  2. Happy happy oh my friend! Haha, I got two for 8/18 at Jones Beach through the lottery. I think the last time I actually was successful with the lottery was when it was Tickets By Mail back in 97. Sorry, mtnbed -- I dont see the Creek in my future.
  3. You should have read the article then. His point was not to deny that anyone who uses those terms is anything other than a bigot or a racist. His point was that the Tea Partiers have denied the claims, and that there is no audio or video to prove what was or wasn't said. And that, if true, the terms are despicable and all claims should be investigated. And, for the record, I happen to think Pat Buchanan is (generally) a moron. When did people in here stop reading?
  4. At the risk of making a sweeping overgeneralization, between zero Republican votes on healthcare and Frum getting canned, it's really quite stunning how good Republicans are at getting their party to toe the line. Compare that to the Dems, who, with vast majorities in the Senate and House, had to water down their own health care bill to get enough votes to pass it. There's no public option in this bill because of the Dems, not the Republicans.
  5. hey, thanks jtrollman. And thanks again to rowboat and everyone else in here. Not sure that anyone cares how this story ends, but I did end up installing the M1A in a D-18 and practiced last week with my bandmate (drummer), and the pickup is really great. In the end, my concerns were all silly. 1. I was afraid that the pickup would interfere with heavy strumming since it's a soundhole pickup -- it didn't. 2. I was concerned that I'd need a DI box -- I didn't. 3. Concerned that the guitar would be much heavier -- it isn't. 4. Concerned about drilling a hole in my D-18 -- haha, whatever,
  6. well, jff, to be fair, I think you did start this by saying that you weren't surprised that you didnt like the album given all the buzz it had around here. Or something like that.
  7. come on, solace. I don't like the album either. It has nothing to do with patience. Really.
  8. well, my TT (120 gram) wasn't warped and both my AM and Summerteeth (180 gram) were warped. So, who knows.
  9. I've only had a chance to listen to terror twilight. I think they are 120 gram. For $7.99, I couldn't pass it up. TT sounded really good/warm to me. Then again, I am not looking for high fidelity from Pavement or these albums, so maybe you shouldn't rely on my opinion. I just looked on Amazon, and they are listed as "Low Price Vinyl" versions for $10.99. The albums come with mp3 download too.
  10. other than some new jazz lp reissues on 180gram that I've seen, I haven't seen any single LP pushing $25. It's true, that they can be more expensive than a CD, and often get up to $20 or so, but those are usually the LPs that come with an mp3 download. It could be that I am remembering wrong, but I think most new "indie" band LPs these days are in the 15-20 range. Also, I bought all of Pavement's LPs (reissues) last week (new) for $7.99 each at Kim's on 1st ave in NYC.
  11. I can't hang with the Pollardheads around here, but I am thoroughly enjoying Speak Kindly of Your Volunteer Fire Department right now. I have no idea where fans think that album sits in the pantheon.
  12. i guess this is old news, but I hadn't seen it. And speaking of one take, I think they are insisting this was one take, but I dont think I believe them. Ok Go - This Too Shall Pass
  13. (NP: Northern Lights, Southern Cross) Never fails. Will give Dawes another shot soon.
  14. I am just catching up on this thread and now giving Dawes a shot. So, NP: Dawes. I've got to admit that any band that reminds me of the Band usually ends up falling flat. Anything that reminds me of the Band makes me put on the Band.
  15. Well, whether he's right or wrong, it's pretty hard to rail against a healthcare bill as "undemocratic" if you agreed with Cheney in May 2008.
  16. Also, in fairness, two points: 1. There are very real questions about how those polls are worded, and I have read reports that the breakdown is much closer to 50/50 when folks are asked about the specific ISSUES in the bill (e.g., pre-existing conditions, 30 million americans covered, etc). It's the bill that they oppose. The issues are much less clear. 2. With credit to Glenn Greenwald: Dick Cheney and ABC News' Martha Radditz in May, 2008, regarding the administration's escalation of the war at exactly the same time that public demands for withdrawal were at their height: RADDATZ
  17. awesome. (... and sevento)
  18. hey Chris- i agree with you, but in fairness, when I was on the front page (or whatever you call it -- the page that lists all the subforums) since it only shows part of the title, it said "Ryan is Dead: Ryan Adams..." So, I just about had a heart attack myself when I saw it. Thanks for putting this together. Looking forward to downloading it and giving it a spin. Even though (gasp!) I am not much of a Deadhead. But I am a Ryan Adams-head.
  19. eta: I haven't been to the creek since those two phish shows in August 97. 13 yrs ago?!?
  20. It's ok if I am the only guy who doesn't like this album.
  21. jff, which were the ones that you played that you didnt like?
