  1. I dont know. I am UK Office guy and whenever I come across a US Office conversation, and I state my beliefs, I get lots of eye-rolls.
  2. I continue to resist the urge to post quotes from the UK version. I don't want to be "that guy." Still, I want a pat on the back for it.
  3. Wow, if you are going to trick me into clicking on that link, at least make it worth it when I do. That was a pretty awful cover of a pretty great song.
  4. Yeah, I can't swing it. Dangit. My lovely wife has other ideas for our NYE. I drag her to so much during the year that I can't really give her a hard time. STILL, I want to.
  5. Instead of people that make less than 250k/year telling me why people making more than 250k should pay more in taxes, and instead of people making more than 250k/year (or the ability to make that much in the near future) telling me why they shouldn't, I'd like to hear from people making more than 250k/year voting for Obama. And people making less than 50k/year voting for McCain.
  6. Let's ask TheMaker... TheMaker? I can understand an atheist's position that faith is all a sham, and I can understand the argument that the bad of religions/faiths/etc outweighs the benefits. But along with the collateral damage comes collateral benefit. Even TheMaker has to agree with this. It may not be "worth it" to him, but it's true.
  7. Ok, so I guess I am more excited about this than others. I'll be there for nights 3 and 7. YLT at Maxwell's for Hanukkah is like Wilco in Chicago. Or Dylan in NYC. It's an institution, ferchrissakes! Oh, and as of today: 1. The River of Water 2. Little Eyes 3. I Heard You Looking 4. Cherry Chapstick 5. The Crying of Lot G
  8. Hanukkah is here!! Tix onsale right now. Just found out.
  9. I hear some Big Star in those vocals. And that's a good thing. Good stuff, PopTodd.
  10. Not sure I understand your point here. Do atheists argue that absolutely no good comes out of religion/belief/faith? I think even jnick would be hard pressed to argue that.
  11. Haha, sorry man. In all seriousness though, every single time a team has come back from 3-1, it felt insurmountable. After all, the team up 3-1 had to look pretty darn good to get there, and the team down 3-1 had to look pretty bad to lose 3 of 4. But, it does happen. And not all that infrequently.
  12. No, but maybe they lose three straight?
  13. I think of you in black and white. Man, the guy is just on a whole other level.
  14. FWIW, I do think the tunes on Tell Tale Signs are great, but more because they show the evolution of his creative process. Not because he made the wrong decisions on which versions to put on albums. Those versions of Mississippi and Most of the Time are great -- but I prefer the album versions. Someday Baby might be the only one that I think sounds better as the alternate version. And as much as I love Red River Shore, it isn't polished. He couldn't have just stuck that on an album. It definitely has the feel of an outtake. It's missing something and I think he knew it. It still has mo
  15. I like the Oh Mercy version much better. But I think all of Oh Mercy is great.
  16. Two excellent points that often get overlooked when people talk about the DEATH TAX. Thanks John Smith. This discussion simply cannot continue in any productive fashion without specifics. No one is in favor of taxing inheritances -- and we get into trouble when people throw out blanket terms like DEATH TAX without reference to how many people actually end up paying it. And without reference to how much is left behind after the estate planners have done their thing, and the trusts have been set up, and the taxes are paid. Without the frame of reference, everything gets lost in talking poi
  17. Exactly. He has said how much he loves playing with the Cardinals which is exactly why I was looking forward to this release so much. He seemed happy, focused and the band was/is on fire. I dont understand the urge to rush the process because he loves the band he is playing with. Wouldn't you take your time to put out something that was great if you loved the band you are playing with? The desire to create new songs to play doesnt mean you have to rush an album out -- can't you create new songs and play them on the road? And then when you are ready, go into the studio to do it right?
  18. Man this bums me out. I had my hopes up pretty high for this one.
  19. Of course, but anyone who sold last week locked in losses and has already missed 5% of the upside from today. I am not going to question your brother -- I am sure he knows what he is doing. But for purposes of this discussion, waiting for a sustained increase, after selling at a low point, only ensures that you've locked in your loss. You need to be in for the rally back to make up what you lost when you sold.
  20. Cold Irons Bound from disc 3 rages with an intensity and fury reminiscent of Dylan from 42 years ago. Could have come right after Ballad of a Thin Man on disc 2 of Bootleg Series, Vol 4. Got me thinking about these songs from Oh Mercy onwards, and how these songs would sit with me if there was no such thing as Dylan pre-Oh Mercy. All these songs stand on their own, and with these outtakes and rarities as evidence, the songs and the emotion in them, outshine polished and released output from so many of today's artists. It's too hard for me to separate out the new Dylan from the old Dylan.
  21. Yes, but I think part of the panic now is centered on whether that assumption is a safe one anymore. What's the definition of bargain? Even at the "bargain" rates of today, these stocks are trading at 12-15x earnings. If we enter a global recession, or depression, who knows where earnings go. And who knows what a bargain is anymore. Everything is being turned upside down in this market. Black is white. Up is down. Maybe in a global market where everything is funded with credit, this credit freeze impacts the earnings potential of these companies in ways we just don't know. And then, 1
  22. Yes, you are right. It's not apples and oranges. But it's not apples to apples, either. No one is calling the bottom. It's entirely possible that this bounce signifies the end of the madness. But that could all evaporate on Monday, and it'd be foolish to look at the Buffett investments in a vacuum. The guy did not invest in the common stock of those companies. He got a very nice cherry on top of his sundae that virtually guarantees the type of return that no one else could get. Goldman and GE did those deals because they needed to from a PR perspective. EDIT: no pun intended on the a
