I was away from a TV all weekend. I only saw random clips of the HRC concession speech and a few talking heads giving their approval. What did people here think? A good speech? Convincing? Is unity possible? Other than MrRain, I dont think anyone weighed in. Lots of people here were very vocal about her need to get out, and to do so appropriately. Were you satisfied?

Yeah, and he hit 600 home runs.

Oh, haha, if that's the second set, that's what I had on tape. Not the first set. Probably my favorite set of many.

Dear Chicago, You'll never guess. You know the girl you said I'd meet someday? Well, I've got something to confess. She picked me up on Friday. Asked me if she reminded me of you. I just laughed and lit a cigarette, Said "that's impossible to do." My life's gotten simple since. And it fluctuates so much. Happy and sad and back again. I'm not crying out to much. I think about you all the time. It's strange and hard to deal. Think about you lying there. And those blankets lie so still. Nothing breathes here in the cold. Nothing moves or even smiles. I've been thinking some of suicide. But th

Can anyone speak intelligently to this blog or this rumored rant tape? A friend just sent it to me. Is this some stupid HRC supporter with a blog stirring up nonsense, or is this for real? Oh man. http://hillbuzz.blogspot.com/2008/06/whats...-rant-tape.html

I saw this last weekend. It has been getting universally stellar reviews. I can't tell what I thought of it. Anyone else seen it yet?

I know a lot of Dems are Hillary haters now, but I would like to suggest that it is possible that this long Dem primary process will help Obama. If you notice, even though Hillary refuses to die, McCain isn't willing to let the Dems continue to trip over themselves. He is actively engaging Obama on many issues. Now, I'd never be so crazy to suggest this was Hillary's strategy. But if this is a calculated move by McCain (to begin engaging Obama before absolutely necessary), it means he thinks that HRC isn't doing nearly the same damage to Obama that McCain and the GOP could do. Or, that M

Jim Webb seems to be getting some interesting grassroots support. I guess he's got the whole war/south thing going. Also, completely off topic, I thought this was a great article on McCain in the New York Review of Books. Not sure if anyone here reads it, but Michael Tomasky (IMO) is the most important political writer around right now... http://www.nybooks.com/articles/21470

I had this bad boy on a Maxell tape for years and it was the show that made me fall in love with the band back in college. Well, the first set at least. I dont think I had the second set on tape. So, this one is near and dear to my heart. I do think it's somewhat odd that there is some weird timing with me dipping my toes back into the Phish catalog (it hasn't really held, but I listened to a couple of shows last week) and Trey and Tom getting back together.

You missed my point. Maybe I wasn't clear. I am agreeing with you. At this point, she's not even a no brainer VP. I think I said she's gone from no brainer VP candidate (with 18MM votes and mucho $$) to nothing now. Obama may (and I'd argue will) pass over her for VP for all the reasons you said. It's mind boggling to me that everything is slipping away for the Clinton campaign.

Watching the Clinton campaign is like watching that one dude in the green room at the NFL draft who is sinking lower and lower and lower. She went from presumptive nominee, to in a dogfight with Obama, to the no-brainer veep, to ... at this point ... nothing (?). This is uncomfortable. She is actually going to find a way to not end up on the Dem ticket in November. An astounding collapse. They will be teaching classes about this. How not to run a campaign. Wow.

A rainy Wednesday night in Manhattan. I downed a quick sandwich for dinner and ran out to the 1 train to Christopher Street to catch Martin Rivas at The Bitter End on Bleecker Street. I had heard good things about this guy. Rumor is he's a decent guy and knows his way around Wilco message boards too. Anyway, having never seen Mr. Rivas live, I didn't really know what to expect. Let me just say that from the first notes of the set to the glorious and rocking finale of North, he had the crowd tapping their feet and singing along. I heard bits of influence from lots of different folks

"It wouldn't surprise me if he came back as a left-handed pitcher," said Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, a former Braves coach. Amen. That guy (and his team) have beat up on my Mets for at least a decade. I have nothing but respect for Smoltz. Best of luck to him. I have hated many opponents. Never him.

Before we all go crazy about rising oil prices and scarcity, someone should mention that there are plenty of smart folks out there who think that the oil markets are in the midst of the very same bubble that hit housing and tech, etc. I don't say it to suggest that we should be callous about oil consumption. Just that there are a lot of people who think that oil has a much better chance of hitting $85/barrel again than it does to hit $300/barrel. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...mk&refer=us

I share your concern about the reality of the situation, but they couldn't be more different about the way they are approaching Iraq. If we don't get out within a reasonable timeframe under an Obama administration, it will be a failure of his administration. If we dont get out within a reasonable timeframe under a McCain administration, it will be a success.

I should have stressed the AP at the end of ASAP. I didn't mean to suggest that Obama's position is to get us out quickly without regard to the ramifications. That being said, McCain is resigned to at least 15 more yrs of this debacle. Obama at least has a goal of getting us out as soon as possible. They are both coming at this issue from very different perspectives. I agree that Obama can't wave a magic wand and get us out. I don't think he is suggesting that, though.
-
Moe, to be honest, I'd be curious to see you elaborate. McCain wants us in iraq for 15 yrs (not 100 anymore), and Obama wants us out asap. Obama wants to engage Iran diplomatically, McCain doesnt. McCain wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Obama doesnt. Obama wants universal health care. McCain toes a very convenient line on abortion, gun control, etc. Obama is a typical Dem on those issues. McCain will appoint Supreme Court justices in the Roberts/Alito mold. Obama will not. They seem pretty different to me. Where do you see the similarities? I agree that anything differen

Why do albums made in 2001 need to be remastered?

I am, and I've been enjoying the windfall. The guy's been on fire. I just hope Uribe doesnt take the job back from him...

I like the soundtrack. It's fun. But it didnt strike me that there were a lot of interpretations going on. A lot of rehashing.

Oh, I know what a flip-flopper he's been. I meant it sarcastically. I dont think he's really "changed" at all. I think he's gotten smarter. He was full of it then and he's full of it now.
