  1. What, exactly, is the difference?
  2. As much as I hate Ticketbastard and Live Nation, I have yet to hear any decent suggestions about a better way to sell tix. I temper my hatred of them with this sobering realization. It is convenient to log into my computer 30 seconds before tix go onsale and click a button. I used to have to stand outside in subzero temps and/or rain waiting for box offices to open. I figure I gotta pay for that, right?

Yeah, you are probably destined. I hate nothing more than trite music and trite lyrics, but I dont think that song has either. I agree that trite-ness is a fine line though. I can't explain why I love the song, but I do. Maybe my opinion is colored by the fact that I heard/read that it was a song he wrote to his father after his mother died? Not sure. And not sure I can explain it. I love it, though.
  4. Interesting. I guess with the way that players get paid these days, some teams would certainly pony up what he made in his career to get his 2003 season alone. So it's not like the guy was criminally overpaid for his production. But man, the guy has basically made 10MM in 04-06 to be not much more than a pipe dream.
  5. It may be callous to ask this question, especially in light of what is obviously a heart breaking news development for Prior, but I wonder how much money Prior has made to, essentially, be an unproductive and disappointing player for his entire career. He may never have gotten the big payday since he got hurt so early. Does anyone know? This guy is clearly one of the most talented ballplayers to never make it as big as he should have made it. Such a shame.
  6. I agree with you, but neither are in my top 5.
  7. May the power of Trugoy, Pos and Mase be with you always. ALWAYS. Thanks for the laughs and good times. Keep kicking ass wherever you are headed.
  8. I think I was the one that suggested arguing with the jamband label for Phish. I'd agree that other bands that are considered jambands aren't all that good. But I didn't even mean it that way. Just that I recognize that bands get stuck in boxes with labels for ease of reference. Like Wilco being an alt-country band, I agree that the most convenient box to put Phish in is "jamband." But Phish was a different band from night to night and even song to song for me. You want to tell me they weren't a bluegrass band (Poor Heart)? A barbershop quartet (Hello My Baby)? An arena rock band (Cha
  9. Congrats!! Where in NYC? (Don't worry, I won't crash) My wife and I got married in Central Park -- the "venue" cost us $25 bucks (for a park permit).
  10. I'll just say fare thee well.
  11. In part as a result of the fact that this thread is alive and kicking, I went back to listen to some of my old phish shows. I basically haven't listened to Phish since I hiked those 15 miles out of Coventry. The band broke up and I used that as an excuse to break away too. It was time for me to move on. I thought everything went pretty downhill after 12/31/99 (and even after the Island Tour as we were saying before) so Coventry was my last swan song. Then I basically spent the next several years reconnecting with my roots (Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Costello, Lowe, ), discovering bands like
  12. This thread is making me feel old. (never saw a divided sky??!?!)
  13. Yep, you are exactly right. The Island Tour. Completely forgot about that. Although the music from the Island Tour was really more the crowning achievment of what had been started in 97. And you are right on the money with those summer '98 shows. Random covers popping up (prominently in sets) was a sign that they were running out of things to do to keep it fresh. I don't know which one I prefer but there is definitely a difference between '91-94 and '95-97. Just depends what kind of a mood I am in. And I agree with you -- the band was still challenging themselves and reinventing th
  14. Haha, sorry. Looks like she will be playing the whole album acoustic. Is there any way that it will be good...? The tickets for the two shows really sold out fast though. I guess there is still a lot of love for Exile.
  15. So much for me getting an Exile in Guyville discussion going...

I agree -- but at the same time, that's why I kind of like the song. Given the lyrics, it's sort of cool that the song is a bit of a stinker. Just sing what you feel, you know? So, I guess I don't agree. I like every song.
  17. speaking of going downhill, I assume most phans accept that the band started going downhill after '97? I am so out of the Phish loop these days, but that was my opinion at the time. Has that opinion survived? I remember those summer shows in '98 and everyone just shaking their heads... They then had their brief moments in 99 and they recaptured the magic on 12/30-31/99, but it was really never the same for me. Maybe I just changed...?
  18. Couldn't agree more... When they were clicking on all cylinders, and practicing 8 hrs a day, it was really something. It was hard to listen to some of their shows at the end. You could tell they were just going on fumes. I heard a guyute once that Trey just absolutely butchered. Never would have happened in their prime. It just sounded like the band was rusty. And I agree. I have a sense that there is just something about being young, and excited and passionate, that drives you to get together with your 3 buddies every day to practice. I don't see them ever getting back to that point
  19. Just scored two tix to Liz Phair at the Hiro Ballroom in NYC on 6/26. Apparently, it's time for the re-release of Exile in Guyville (15th anniversary, maybe?). She is going to perform the whole album.
  20. That McCartney guy has written some good f*cking songs, ya know?
