I did a run through of the entire catalog a couple weeks ago, and I can now officially say that I love SBS. There are a couple songs I'm not crazy about, but the overall experience is beautiful. I now consider it a vital part of the Wilco experience. It's been a gradual process, but I'm glad I gave the album time to grow on me since it's release. This time last year I probably would have labeled it as good - now it's fantastic (or something like that). On the other hand, I think I like Wilco (the album) a little less every time I listen to it.

I do tend to prefer shorter albums, but I could never cut songs out of an album I enjoy. I have trouble so much as hitting the skip button, my faith in the album format is so strong. Where I really take issue is songs that are too long. It Still Moves by My Morning Jacket drives me crazy in this way. The songs may work well live, but on record I feel like the majority of the of the tracks (excepting 1, 2, and 3) drag on and on without success. Not every band can pull off a 5:00+ song. Throwing 10 of them on one album is bound to be a problem.

I was 13 when I started listening to The Beatles and I think this particular song was especially appealing to a kid. My best friend and I spent that entire summer obsessing over the group, and among other things we attempted to act out various songs. I believe Obladi Oblada involved two stuffed hippos. For that reason alone I will always love it.

Yes, over $40.00 total. I've paid close to $10 shipping for pre-orders in the past, but this is going too far. I may go back later and make sure I didn't click a button I didn't mean to, but I don't recall seeing a choice of shipping methods.

I was about to pre-order the vinyl, when I found that they were adding $12.99 for shipping and handling! At that rate I'll probably just end up going for the CD on amazon.com.

Pearl Jam - Backspacer (and Riot Act, to a lesser extent) I find Wilco (the album) to be a fairly pleasant listen, but I'm not convinced it's a good album.

I'm pretty sure my list has changed slightly since the last time I participated in one of these threads. A Ghost is Born Summerteeth Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Being There AM Sky Blue Sky Wilco (the album)

I have a really bad track record in this area. I have initially disliked many of my favorite bands. I think M. Ward is the one I most recently came around to. The two biggest ones for me are Wilco and Son Volt. I initially heard them both on VH1 as a teenager during the 90's. I was into mainstream alternative rock and pop rock at the time - Bush, Collective Soul, eventually Pearl Jam. I liked my singers to have long hair - really, I would sit in front of the TV and wait for a guy with the right look. Son Volt wasn't glossy enough for me (musically or visually), and Wilco seemed like th

I heard "You and I" played as holding music when I was on the phone with a life insurance company this past week. Strange experience.

I canceled in December, and I have been eagerly awaiting such an invitation to come back, though I imagine I have a ways to go. The free month they gave me in Nov. was nice, but 75 downloads is REALLY exciting. This year I've decided to go back to buying physical copies of my music, but I'm not above some free downloads. I especially look forward to adding to my small Tom Waits collection . . . but not enough to actually rejoin.

Re: Anodyne If anyone's still wondering about the Anodyne record - this morning I received shipment confirmation from Amazon.com for my copy, so the January 12th release date must have stuck. I can't wait to get it! Re: Summerteeth I'm sorry to hear so many people had problems with their copies. After ordering my copy during the nonesuch sale I briefly experience some buyer's remorse, afraid I'm might have to deal with returning my defective copy. The record was actually on backorder at the time, but it eventually arrived in great condition. I had no problem with my copy whatsoever

Petition For Wilco to Play "Wishful Thinking" in Atlanta!
Maggie replied to SarahC's topic in Just A Fan
I've been planning on requesting Wishful Thinking for Pittsburgh! I have a very specific reason for my request, but I can't seem to shrink it down to fit in the box provided on the request page. Do we have any idea if reasons for requests are actually taken into consideration by the band? Or do they maybe just count votes? My reasoning is kinda dorky and probably not that interesting to others, but I still would like to submit it with my resquest. Must work on consolidation. -
I managed to get tickets for the Carnegie show after 40 minutes of pushing "refresh," but it appears that I'm going to be at the back of the venue (not that I'm complaining). Look at the bright side - with the public sale you may very well end up with better seats than mine! Really though, I've often heard of people having much better luck with public vs. presales. I'm sure you'll be fine.
-
Everybody who has been shut out - keep trying! I scored two tickets at 10:37!
-
I've continued refreshing, and one ticket finally popped up for my show. BUT I can't go unless I get two. Must keep trying!

So, I sit for 15 minutes pressing F5, they put me in the waiting room, they log me out, I try two more times, and finally told they're sold out. I don't know what I could have possibly done to actually get into the system on time. Please tell me the sale to the general public isn't going to go this quick. I just want to get in the building. I don't care where I sit.

This was my thought process exactly. I get the feeling that many people around here see more shows in a month than I attend in a year. I always make sure that I get to a venue early enough to see the opening act. But this is only going to be my second time seeing Wilco, so a full night with the band is a huge deal to me. If I could see only one show in 2010, I would want it to be one of these. Can't wait to get in on that pre-sale tomorrow!

I was at work when I got an email from Opus One that Wilco is coming to my city. I almost jumped up and started dancing, but stopped myself when I realized the mail man could be walking in any moment.

Heads up for other bargain hunters like myself: Bestbuy.com has the album available for pre-order. The CD is $7.99, shipping is free. There are no record stores near my home, so I don't feel too bad about shopping at Best Buy.

My Morning Jacket immediately came to my mind when I saw this thread. The one that always gets me is "Anytime." Things I could say to myself, I could never say to anyone else. But what Madonna said really helped, she said: "boy, you better learn to express yourself!" I LOVED that song until the moment that I realized what he was saying. Changed the way I listen to the band.

I've done my best to pick the albums I genuinely enjoyed and listened to the most, rather than choosing the albums I think I should like. Top 20, pretty much in order: Magnolia Electric Co. - Josepthine Neko Case - Middle Cyclone Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard - One Fast Move or I'm Gone Son Volt - American Central Dust Califone - All My Friends are Funeral Singers M. Ward - Hold Time The Low Anthem - Oh My God, Charlie Darwin (I think this is technically a re-release, but it's new to me) Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - S/T Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Movies Mark Olson & Gary Lo

I was sitting here wondering how I'm supposed to sift through close to 50 albums in order to come up with my list. Then I happened upon this blog post about the very same subject: http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2009/12/how_do_you_make_your_yearend_l.html I just might be nerdy enough to try out the strip method. That said, I'm not ready to post my list yet. I've still got at least one album on the iPod that I haven't even listened to yet, and a few that have only been played 2 or 3 times.
-
I got my copy on emusic as well. I did however have enough downloads available. I hesitated, as I didn't want to spend 12 tracks on 9 songs, but I went for it anyway. I have since canceled my account (something I've been planning on doing for a while). This is an enjoyable little album, but I'm glad I didn't bother buying a physical copy of the CD. I don't see it getting a lot of plays. I wish Gillian would just go ahead and release a new album already!

Thanks for sharing that! I may have to breakdown and get some of the Wilco reissues in order to make up for the Anodyne disappointment . . .

It was supposed to come out Nov. 23rd, but that appears to have changed. I got an email from amazon.com about my preorder - they're now estimating a delivery in December, while the product page simply states that the item has been discontinued. Music Direct is now saying January 15th. I'll probably just leave my preorder alone and see if I ever get a record or not.
