  1. It's always been my contention that (especially in the second half of their career, especially) whenever Big RxR showed up in a show it usually indicated a really hot show. There was something very appealing about that song to Garcia. I know there is for me.
  2. You know, we've had enough of flip-flopping in this country to last me a lifetime. Have some resolve, damn it. Stick to your principles. When you wake up tomorrow it better read like this: AM BT ST YHF AGIB SBS WTA TWL SW
  3. You will dig it! The Other One > Dark star sequence is very spacey. Maui Wowie, anyone?
  4. I haven't seen one in person - Deer Creek was out due to a couple of legit reasons (surgery the week before, etc.) - but I have listened to most of the shows from streaming. Even on a so-so night it's still better than anything around. And I would include Wilco AND "The Dead" in that statement, sorry!
  5. I like listening to a stream (free!) but I really don't need to see those guys play. Especially for 30 bucks. Crazy.
  6. This is my view as well. Very well put. For me, the atmosphere was interesting, and definitely amusing at times. But I NEVER was there for "the scene" as I have stated previously. I primarily am all about the music going on onstage. Mayer is an guitarist of some renown, Oteil is a badass bass player who can hold the groove as well as anyone in the genre, Chementi is a fine addition (although I wish he was more aggressive). I just have too many issues with tempo and Weir's mishandling of Garcia-sung tunes. It just doesn't make the nut for me. I sincerely hope all who do shows on this tour have
  7. When Ratdog played The Murat Theater in Indy on 11/7/00 (the night of the Bush/Gore election) he yelled (during Throwing Stones, iirc) "I hope you motherfuckers voted for Al Gore!" I have the SBD here on cassette somewhere.
  8. I put this rant here cause I was comfortable doing so. Can you even imagine the response if I'd have put that in any of the myriad number of GD Facebook groups we're on? My fucking house would be burned to the ground!
  9. I'm going to put this here: The thing for me is this - my general discontent with DeadCo, LLC (yes, this is how I refer to them) is remember last Summer? Fare The Well? A last send-off, celebrating 50 years of the band and their fans? I had no issue with that per se, other than Soldier Field in July (been there, done that - BRUTAL as I recall). Well, it went off pretty well, a fine fine ending I thought. THEN - the amps were still warm, and all of a sudden BAM! "Oh we said we're done, it's over? Well FUCK, we just made a SHIT TON of money in Santa Clara & Chicago - let's keep this thin
  10. The setlists are most definitely more random than the following year - that, and the very clean separation of the instruments in the mix are a couple of reasons I go back and visit '76. As far as energy goes, that's not usually a word I would associate with 76 lol. Occasionally in the jams there's still that dreamy 1974 vibe going on, Playin immediately stands out for me in that regard. It's like the energy picks up from month to month; the shows with The Who in October begin to push the music in a more rock-n-roll direction, and by Fall '77 they're really hittin' hard. The first things
  11. Got it Thursday. Haven't listened yet. That bonus disc looks interesting Playin > Cosmic Charlie > Spanish Jam > Drums > Wheel > Playin? Hell yeah! Summer '76 does plod along at times, but the setlists were never again so random.
  12. Pet peeve - first sets that can squeeze on one side of a cassette. I have some of those. When the set break is longer than the first set...
  13. I'll have to dig into this, I've never heard it. I have maybe 6-7 '95 shows on tape/cd. All of it (minus Deer Creek) from the Spring. By and large I get pretty down when I listen to that year. The ballads are good, Drums/Space is almost always good, but the jams...I can get pretty sad when it comes to jamming. Those in-ear monitors really changed things for the worse imo.
  14. I've listened to the '92 show and don't remember it at all - that's how great it is! I've always thought the 6/28 Deer Creek was the best post-Bruce show I ever saw (out of a dozen or so). Regarding ScarFires, that 10/14 MSG is a monster, 30+ min version that deserves a listen.
  15. Oh, that Garcia/Lesh analogy was totally tongue-in-cheek. But Adler is my favorite member of that band so I would say something like that for the hell of it. Thanks for that a LOT, LC. That's exactly what I wanted to read.
  16. I sure would like to know why Steven isn't there. I've heard his band, watch some vids, etc. It's not like he's incapable of playing. No Steven + No Izzy = I ain't gonna be there. Christ, it's almost like former members of The Grateful Dead trying to tour without Garcia or Lesh.
  17. Any time Yes or Crimson aren't members of a place like this the whole thing is a fucking lame ass trip. Seriously. Phish too, certainly. But Crimson? YES, for God's sake? You have to say WTF.
  18. Glenn should be there! And inducted as well.
  19. The Chicago debut LP is one of the very best debut Rock LPs in my opinion. I could go on all day about Terry Kath. He was truly a monster player - right up there with Page & Clapton from the same time frame.
  20. Anyone who has the audacity to tackle this piece with this much style and grace is alright in my book. The production could be a bit 'drier'. But one could say that about the original as well! One can only imagine how much fun it was to jam the section after "the whistle is screaming" with these guys. It's really one of the most grand (or grandiose LOL) pieces they ever came up with. When I think about the very best moments of my touring career (80s) I think of Playin, Bird Song, and Terrapin most of all.
  21. LOM is great! I think the best is the Keystone Berkeley Era band of '73. But that year is the best GD to my ears as well. And O&ITW! '73 is just incredible.
