  1. As well you should be. Shame on you Mike & Lou! But...my .02: y'all didn't mention Califone - imho the best band I've came across since I joined here in Feb. '06. God, I love that band.
  2. Well imo there's just almost nothing "new" that remotely sounds interesting to me. But I like what I like, and it seems that that 'style' is no longer fashionable. Yeah. I read somewhere that the germ of "Waiting on a Friend" goes back as far as Sticky Fingers.
  3. HA! I was waiting on that! It's true that the song came out in '81, but in fact the origins of the tune go back into the 70s (as a reggae tune, IIRC). So we're both right.
  4. There's really just too many to count from the original cast, so I won't even try. Farley's "Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker" was one of the funnier bits from the 90s imo. I thought one of the best things from the last 5 years or so was Peyton Manning's "United Way" commercial. Totally went against the grain of his squeaky clean image. Thankfully he was game for doing it.
  5. Interesting set list. I couldn't help but notice there's nothing from the 80s in that set, not that there should be. But it's like that decade doesn't even exist for the band. And Out Of Control? Hell, I had to look that one up - never bought "Bridges". Good to see Start Me Up later in the set, instead of its usual position. There's probably at least another dozen tunes that could be included in a "hits" set like this one! Hopefully they'll mix things up a bit for the other shows.
  6. I've always thought if you take set 1 from 5/9 and the set 2 from 5/8 you have one of the best shows ever.
  7. The thing I recall about Normal is they tease "Stayin' Alive" (at the time a big hit from Sat Night Fever) and then take it right into "Me & My Uncle". I don't know why this sticks out to me, but it always cracked me up.
  8. Me too! I got that for my 20th birthday (12/8/82).
  9. Oooh this should be fun!! OK, I'll bite with the first things that pop into my head. I might have to revise later. 11/10-11/67 Shrine Auditorium. Viola! 4/22/69 Boston. Incredible 6/10/73 RFK - always been a favorite 12/30/78 - for the second set. Ollin Arageed > Stephen! 6/30/84 - my fave show I attended. If you love Jerry you'll LOVE this one.
  10. Thanks for the link, Oil Can. I enjoyed that quite a bit. I have many mixed emotions about the whole thing.
  11. '84 is admittedly a very spotty year, with a fair number of shows on autopilot from Garcia. But when he's feelin' it watch out! I think my favorite show I ever saw was 6/30/84 - Garcia is ON damn near the whole night, and the pre-drums is worthy of official release consideration.
  12. ^ Have you read Richards' bio "Life"? Ummm..."The Tiny Todger"...
  13. Hey, bitch, maybe you should check out the list of Deep Purple or Yes members sometime. At least they were in bands that actually MATTERED.
  14. Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil frontman) has been a Labor Party member of Australia's House of Representatives since 2004 and Minister of the Environment for the past 5 years. One of the great voices of social conciousness in Rock.
  15. Don't Want You No More > It's Not My Cross To Bear Allman Bros.
  16. Turnips: you MUST check out Gil Scott-Heron's "Black Wax". It's one of the best!
  17. I wasn't aware that it had been released yet. Better check it out - I was thinking that was gonna be next year.
  18. Yeah. T Stones' jam in the middle was kind of weird in the early days, that minor-key thing that sort of reminded me of Cassidy. IMO it got MUCH better when they went to the "triumphant" major-key jam. Any idea when they changed it? I'm thinking mid- '84.
  19. As far as I know it's the second longest version ever as well (for those of you scoring at home).
  20. It is a DP. I've always thought '85, although wildly up and down, was a good year. June was pretty strong throughout. November had some real good shows. Does anyone ever pull out the NYE show (telecast on USA Network)? That was SO much fun - coming home after NYE parties and finishing your night with The Boys.
  21. That IS a good 'un. The Dark Star has some lengthy passages (especially near the end) where you discover the true meaning of The Phil Zone. He drops some bombs that must've blown out some eardrums, and gets some scary feedback shit that reminds me of 12/2/73.
  22. Yeah, that Kean College 2/28/80 show is a fine example of the Midnight>Rigby>Midnight sammich.
  23. I'm the nephew Chuck never knew he had, you know.
