  1. IMO no. I thought the band acted professionally in what must have been a confusing and scary situation. "The band keeps playin' on". That's what they do. Hey, there were death threats against Garcia at Deer Creek, and the damn fence was torn down from a riot, they went on and played. Bobby is certainly no stranger to drugs and alcohol, and it saddens me greatly to think he was not together last night. Something is definitely wrong here, and there's no way you can spin this one. Let's give the man some vibes, OK? He's given us a lifetime of good music and good times. And don't go hatin' on
  2. 4/24/78, Normal IL (35 years ago today): Stayin' Alive Tease -> Me & My Uncle Yep, they actually did that.
  3. Phish covered Waterloo once, you know. And they're the only band that can give Wilco a run for the title of "America's Greatest Band". Right now the two are running neck and neck. The ONLY way I can make a decision here is for Wilco to play Waterloo, and then I will descend into the MB Musical Dungeon to painstakingly analyze both covers. C'mon JT. You want Big Red to walk away with the crown by forfeit? Go out there and CRUSH the damn tune.
  4. Nice story, Donna. I never got to see Mr. Havens, unfortunately, but he seemed to personify the essence of the late-60s music scene in general, and Woodstock more specifically. And few people have ever done such justice to covering other people's tunes. More often that not his versions would surpass the original.
  5. The first thing from the new Sabbath LP - "God Is Dead?". I enjoyed it quite a bit. The doom-laden riffage is in full force. Ain't nobody gonna tell me Tony hasn't still got his shit together. I was transported back to about 1975 for about 9 minutes there.
  6. If it was like 10-12 years ago I would be pretty excited, but not now.
  7. Nah, unless that little combo from Asbury Park NJ decides to permanently close up shop.
  8. Fixed it for ya. Actually I was in a little garage band years ago and we used to do that.
  9. It's not like I dislike the tune, and it's fine on YHF, but here tis: I've seen these guys 15-20 times since 2002, and EVERY SINGLE TIME I've seen 'em they played the song. EVERY TIME. It wore out its welcome for me about '06.
  10. I LOVED Alex's speech. And the crowd booing Wenner = priceless. Next order of bidness - Purple. They'd BETTER get in next year.
  11. My favorite thing about the box was the live tracks that were used to fill out the CDs. Stuff like "Operator" and "Till The Morning Comes" were certainly a bit rough, but given the rarity of some of the tunes it was a welcome addition.
  12. Hell yes - Tom Constanten sits in! Those shows were a few of my first tapes as well.
  13. I do know the GD released it on CD maybe 5-6 years ago. It's a pretty cool thing, but nothing that'll make your regular rotation.
  14. While it's on my mind don't forget to dig into April '71! A month of the VERY BEST of Pig. From now (4/15) until the Fillmore Run at the end of the month he's just at the very peak of his powers - some of his best raps, and the band (by now stripped down to for all practical purposes a quartet) just kills on his tunes.
  15. Hell, I forgot to mention the Comes a Time from 5/4/77. The Playin' > Comes a Time > Playin' that finishes out set 2 covers quite a bit of ground! 5/4 is a show that doesn't get enough love, surely because of the wealth of stellar shows from that month, but imo it shouldn't be overlooked. The Dancin' that closes out set 1 is an all timer, and is 20 minutes.
  16. Shug, that was an outstanding post. Cheers!
  17. Hey now! While you're rooting around in May of '77 you simply MUST hear the Playin' sandwich from 5/19. The transition from China Doll into the Playin' Reprise is deeply spacey and hypnotic, and is possibly my favorite segment of music from all of 1977. And I'm not bullshitting.
  18. Seger was actually the first band I ever saw live. August, '76 - the Live Bullet Era. He opened for KISS - at the height of their powers on The Destroyer Tour. I thought he was pretty good at the time. But imo he threw it all away when he got away from the Mitch Ryder vibe and went into the "singer-songwriter" thing. Plus, living where I do his stuff is so ubiquitous on the airwaves it's just plain nauseating after awhile.
  19. And it won't be the last I'm sure. Howza 'bout that set 2, eh?
  20. That has to be about the biggest softball that's ever been lobbed my way, but strangely I just don't have it in me to be snarky this time.
  21. Well, anytime you get a couple of TC-Era Dark Stars it's a good thing.
