  1. Yeah, and I forgot the "Day on the Green" shows (10/9/&10/76) where they alternated opening/closing for The Who. That was another Dick's Pick, and a damn fine one at that.
  2. Oh yeah, me too. I even like Come Taste The Band quite a bit.
  3. As long as Coverdale doesn't show up I'll be fine.
  4. Bingo. Romney was well rehearsed, to be sure, but he seemed SO tense. He just comes off as a man so desperate to win. Unfortunately all the fact-checking in the world does little anymore. A good majority of people (not US, of course!) just don't care about facts - the Faux News influence, if you will.
  5. Rush AND DP. I think Eddie Trunk should give the nominating speech for one of those.
  6. My most sincere condolences, man. I truly understand. In April my Mother lost her 14 month battle with cancer. The last month she was at home, when it became apparent that there was nothing medical magic could do. On the last day she was surrounded by all her family. She wasn't ready to go, she was fighting it because she didn't think we were going to be ok without her, I guess. My Dad stood over her and literally TALKED her over to the other side. Just kept reassuring her that we'd be ok. She hadn't opened her eyes in 3-4 days, then suddenly she opened her eyes REAL wide, looked around th
  7. I don't know if it's been mentioned here, but the Central Park show is on youtube.
  8. Oh yeah, I saw The Plugz on the late great show "New Wave Theatre" and I thought they were VERY cool.
  9. Those are great. I'm REAL partial to 7/31 as well. That 2nd set is just my idea of a perfect set.
  10. I've been plowing through that Spring '90 box set, and I have to say that tour HAS to be about the most cohesive playing ever from the GD. It almost sounds rehearsed it's so tight. Everything is so balanced - you can tell they were really listening to each other. Plus, it's truly a showcase for Brent lovers. God, the guy just BURNS every show.
  11. There was a Dick's Picks that was both 9/25 & 9/28, and a Road Trips from June 9 Boston. '76 is criminally underrated imo. I actually dig that year more than much of '77. It still has a little of the feel of '74. The tempos are WAY slow, however. I'm a tad disappointed in the choice though. WHERE IS '67, '82, OR '84? Out of the gazillion live releases STILL nothing from those years. And there's some GREAT stuff from both '82 and '84.
  12. Wonderfully crazy stuff, that. I recently grabbed the CD version of one of my favorite LPs as a kid - SRC Milestones. Great psych-pop. Lead guitarist Gary Quackenbush (yes, that's REALLY his name ) has a tone so full of sustain it's insane! And Hall of the Mountain King > Beck's Bolero is just awesome proggy stuff.
  13. ALL the official Live Cream stuff is SO heavily influential to me. When I first dug into this stuff it was a revelation. Live Cream, Vol. II, Sides 3 &4 of Wheels of Fire, Goodbye. When I was a teenager in the late '70s/early '80s these records made me think there was some truth to the 'Clapton is God' philosophy. Sweet Wine (from Live Cream) is a great example - no matter how far from the tune it gets Eric NEVER gets lost. He ALWAYS knows where the "one" is. Much of the jam is literally 3 guys soloing at the same time, but somehow it all manages to hang together. I gotta give props to t
  14. Priest's "Unleashed in the East" is a great one for the metal genre. "Diamonds......and RUST!" \m/
  15. Hell yeah. Hoedown BURNS with energy, and the Tarkus suite is my favorite thing ELP ever did.
  16. I saw where "Seconds Out" was mentioned a couple of times, but Genesis Live is the one for me. Shame that it's only a single LP. Yessongs and Yesshows are both killer Prog as well. And the Mother of All Live Prog (imo) - Crimson's "The Great Deciever" box set. 4 CDs from '73-'74. A total skull-fuck to be sure!
  17. Yeah, the Viola Lee is one that BEGS to be cranked!
  18. Now HERE'S a topic I can really sink my teeth into! I'll start with the first thing that comes to mind: even though it's only about 75% live (the majority of "Maiden of the Cancer Moon" is 'live in the studio') Quicksilver Messenger Service's "Happy Trails" is THE definitive live "Sound of San Francisco". Even moreso than Live Dead. PLEASE check it out if you haven't done so already. I got to meet David Frieberg once and I said in all seriousness, "This is the greatest rock record ever made". The smile that came to his face when I said that will stay with me forever.
  19. Cream's live stuff will never get old for me. Clapton was never better. It's sad, really - to be going downhill before you even hit 30.
  20. Mickey Hart v. Phil Lesh? Very minor on the scale that's been laid out already, but it's hard to forgive Mick for the "He must've got a liver from a jerk" comment. Definitely a low-light in the history of the band.
