  1. Especially since The Police are headlining & I really want to see NMA burn the place down - Any alumni out there that can fill me in on what to expect on the ground. Shit needed etc...

    Thanks...

Never been, but I live in Nashville (about 50 miles away). You can expect: Long traffic lines on I-24 (though they have gotten better), can be fairly hot and humid in early June so plenty of water, sun block, etc. Can get bad T-storms that time of year as well, so prepare for rain possibly. From what I've heard they are making a lot of improvement to the site ( I believe the organizers actually bought or will buy the property) so it's gotten better in terms of amenities, etc.

If you partake of substances keep it cool. They always, ALWAYS have some hick sherrif from the counties along I-24 on the news with some hapless fool pulled over with their dope stash displayed on the hood of the car. These stories usually run a day or two before the event starts as people are filing in.

I hope you have a great time if you go. Everyone I know that's been says it's a pretty good time. I'm to old and cranky to go to big festivals anymore....but I sure would like to see Wilco down there

  2. In the post 9/11 world your gonna get this kind of reaction. Stupid and un-necessary but that's the reality.

It is kind of funny though (but not for Boston with hundreds of thousands spent on first responders etc) Bet some Turner executives get reamed for this stunt. As the Mooninites would say (to the Turner executives) "Prepare for a pride obliterating bitch slap!"

  3. Yes I did. :music The 2/28 is perhaps my favorite show of the Pig years.

I REALLY need David Lemieuxs' phone number. :lol So many questions...

Yes indeed 2-28-69....I'm sure you check out the website (dead.net) and see his postings every week in the tapers section, says you can email with any specific questions. I guess my first question would be "can I have the key to the vault?"

  4. No kidding! :hmm I did get the Rhino thing a week or so ago (12/31/76), but that was the first release of any kind for over a year. Too long!

At least there are still kind traders out there. :yes

Yeah! Cow Palace.....Not a huge fan of the mid years (76-85) but a pretty good show. I like the Help>Slipknot! piece on that. I'm sure there will be a release or two a year from Rhino but.......I dunno I really liked getting 3-4 DP's a year you know. And usually really good Primal stuff too I'm pretty hooked on 1966-1974 stuff myself.

You get the Fillmore set (all four shows)?

  5. The Helton to Boston rumors have been silenced through owner Charlie Montfort, probably the worst baseball owner in recent memory. I say this not because of the deal being quashed (he has every right to seek the highest return for The Rockies' marquee name) but because he makes no sense and continually is satisfied with having aspirations to "play .500 ball".

He has consistently been comfortable with a below-mediocre team and has made some hideous baseball decisions. As someone who loves to go to Coors Field for games, I can say that fan apathy is at an all-time high, in very large part because of the poor business decisions made by ownership out here.

I'll let the the article speak for itself, but pay particular attention to the doublespeak towards the end of the piece, where he sums up his own ineptness succinctly with his lack of business acumen:

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6422286

Yeah, and add to the fact that he publicy identified which players he was after so Lowell and Tavarez now know they were on the trading block. May be some bruised egos there.

  6. Too funny

There is a precedent for this though...back in 1975 when the Dead were on hiatus they played a fairly famous show in San Francisco (Great American Music Hall) where they debuted their new album "Blues for Allah". They had a bunch of live crickets miked up for a song or two.

    Anyways....I don't know why I knew that

  7. I believe mlb.tv is around $80/season. I've read that John Malone is involved in this thing, too. It's looking like a mega-deal in the works.

My computer is down in the basement at home. I'm not spending the season in the basement watching games. Plus, the resolution on the games is fairly lame. Especially on bigger t.v.s.

The shitty part is, the more I've thought about this the past week, the more I've inched closer to switching to DirecTV soley to obtain the package. I hate having to cave in, but pondering a season relying solely on espn and Fox for games frightens me.

    Amen,

Thats all I'll get to see the Sox on this year I guess. I really liked having the package on the digital cable, living here in Nashville it's the only way to get Sox games (other than the national ESPN, FOX broadcasts.) I don't understand this move. I would guess there are way more subscribers to digital cable than Direct TV. Seems like the market for potential customers would be higher for the cable. I guess they think a million people will now spring for the dish. You would think that MLB would make a lot more money by offering it to both satellite and cable subscribers, but in the grand tradition of "fuck the consumer" they opt to make a giganto money grab instead of offering some reasonable solution. Hey that's capitalism though, supply and demand I guess.

  8. The only drawback to having a dog is loosing them.

My Mom and Dad had to have the family dog put down about two years ago. They called me to tell me about it and I was devestated. I live too far away to have gotten the chance to see her one last time. I'm driving into work just bawling my eyes out. When I get into my office one of my subordinates asks me if I'm OK. I told them what happened and this idiot is like "why are you crying for a dog". Nice huh?

Anyway the good thing was that the vet was really nice about everything. Even called up my folks a week or so after to check up on them. To this day my Dad will not get another dog, it's just too hard when they die. I lucked into having a friend give me her dog (they moved to Ireland) so I have a spastic 2 year old Dachshund/ Doberman mix (I don't even want to visualize what that mating process looked like) now and she's great. As much as it hurts loosing them, it's worth it for all the love and joy they give you.

Oh yeah about 6 months after that incident the idiot that asked me why I was crying for a dog screwed up royally here at work and I fired his worthless ass. That was some sweeeeeeeet revenge.

  9. If you have the time drive (or walk) across the GG bridge. There are some killer spots on the Marin County side to hike around and sit on the cliffs adjacent to the bridge. You get a tremendous view of the SF skyline and all of the bay from there.

Also if you have time, drive up / hike Mount Tamalpais (spelling?) beautiful. Most of Marin County is really nice...of course that's only if you want to spend a day outside of the city itself.

All of the other suggestions from the other people are dead on...you won't go wrong doing any of those things

  10. An amazing show.....

There was a lot of banter and audience noise...the guy yelling for Radio King was certainly a frigging idiot.

All in all though I thought the crowd was fairly respectful....yeah don't yell your requests during a song, and the "whoo hoos" do get old but I would say the crowd was 98% enthralled and respectful and 2% were acting like asses.

Give Glenn some love...he played a really interesting set before Jeff came on. I really liked it, but it seemed like a lot of people were like ok enough of the drums.

Anyways I'm sure there will be the usual complaints about the audience, etc, etc but as far as I'm concerned I just drown that out. Your always gonna have beered up chowderheads doing that. That guy last night is probably going on and on to his friends about "hey man I was jiving with Tweedy last night". Sad to get your claim to fame by acting like a douche. That guy should have gone to the Red Hot Chili Peppers show that was going down at the Gaylord Center last night, he would have fit right in with that crowd.

That being said any of you who are going to see Jeff at upcoming shows are in for a treat, if he plays half as well as he did here last night you will all have a great time.

  11. I was thinking the exact same thing last night as I stood in my backyard and viewed all the snow and felt the bitter cold air blowing around me.

I envisioned having The Package hooked up with a Sox game on, the cool spring air, the smell of grass and flowers, etc.

    Reality bites.

Well only about what...5-6 weeks 'till pitchers and catchers report?

Once the NFL is done it is a bleak time. I can't get into hoops (except at tourney time, and thats only for wagering opportunities), hockey is cool but not as much as football and baseball.
