  1. We made gunpowder and put it in a tennis ball when we were in eighth grade. It burned, but didn't explode.

:D making shit explode and burn was a lot of fun when your a kid...

We used to make a "cannon" with a tennis ball can and lighter fluid. It would shoot a flaming tennis ball pretty far.

It's a wonder I have all of my fingers still

  2. Apparently that foiled terror plot thing they discovered this morning regarding airliners from the UK is getting way more extensive. Supposedly the bombers were going to use "a sports drink" mixed with a peroxide paste as a bomb. Scarry shit but interesting read

    CNN article

  3. I always thought it was very appropriate. Seeing as the collection was meant to be a career retrospective and that the song itself was one of the more inspired things he'd written in years (imo), that final So Many Roads makes a nice "fare thee well". I still remember that night in Chicago, thinking that Jerry was sounding rough as hell, but that there wasn't anywhere else in the world I'd rather be at the time. Besides that, Jer just rips that version up.

The version in the So Many Roads box is actually 2 versions mixed into one. The intro part at the begining of the song is from an earlier date, then they spliced most of the Chicago version onto it. I believe they state that in the booklet that came with the box set. I persoanlly always liked the version from Salt Lake City in Feb 95. Regardless it's just a way great song.

  4. they are supposed to have 2, 2 hour movies to wrap things up. but still, it sucks not to anticipate the next season. HBO just plain sucks these days in my opinion. but whatever...I still have my plan to dress up like Jane, get drunk and take a crap in front of the HBO offices on 6th Ave, or Broadway, whatever it is.

I'll pay good money to see that :lol

  5. me too! I have been since the 2nd season. it's so awesome and I am so pissed that there will not be a season 4, at least as it stands now. :hmm

Yeah...must be some kinda money thing or something. It gets good ratings (for cable) I hope they keep it on somehow.....cocksuckers!

  6. no way. the reason why Al has her in the first place is to protect her. not just for the $2 pussy.

That's about $2 too much....seriously though Al needs to off someone...It's kinda been a while. He's just biding his time I reckon

  7.

That's a sweet version.....Even back towards the end 'ol Jer could still show flashes of brilliance now and again. I love that quirky, percolating style of playing he had, very unique.

I think he is (was) one of a handful of guitar players you just know by the style of their playing.

    Sadly missed

    :(

  8. So, hopefully not being too personal, but is anyone here divorced (well of course some folks here are) or divorcing? I'm going through a real mess right now; looks as though I'll be divorcing my wife of (barely) 7 years someday...someday soon. Was blindsided with it at the very end of last year; we've been separated for ~3 months and it appears all the wheels are now coming off. (I'm a wheel, by the way; though she's the one who turned on me...)

So I'm just trying to deal with it all and looking for help/guidance/inspiration/whatever anywhere I can get it. If anyone is willing to contribute anything helpful -- or is in a similar situation -- I'd be interested to hear it.

Misery loves company (in my back), as they say.

Sorry to hear it....never been divorced but went through a seriously messed up break-up with a girlfriend of 3 years just last year. I can't relate to the legal aspects of a divorce but what got me through was:

    A lot of drinking

    Staying as busy as possible

Finally figuring out how to let it go...I can't tell you how, I just did it , and one day it stopped hurting so much

The thing that really sealed the deal was I found out she had gotten married to some asshole (with whom she had been cheating with when she was with me) and that really was the life-saver. I was like well thats certainly it then

Good luck, it isn't easy. Get a good lawyer I hope it works out for you and is as painless as possible

  9. Matt and Cryptique you both have it right. Talk about a clusterfuck

In my opinion I believe Israel is justified in their actions. I do feel for the innocent, this ALWAYS happens in war, but Lebanon has done nothing to rid themselves of Hezbollah, and they neither have the resources nor the political will to do so. The Islamic Fascists are hell bent on not only destroying Israel, but anyone else who does not subscribe to their beliefs. I don't doubt for a minute some whacko country over there wouldn't use NBC warfare if given the chance (nuclear, biological, chemical).

It certainly is a huge mess, but I believe the threat with terror states is real and needs to be stopped. You can argue that fighting them only makes them stronger, attracts more people to their cause, etc and it probably is true, but if left un-checked these organizations will stop at nothing to impose their will on the middle east and rest of the world. They know exactly what they are doing and they know that their terror works. The rest of the world is slowly being lulled into a sense of appeasement that if we just ignore them and don't fight they will go away. It ain't gonna happen.

Call me crazy but if you ask me all the trouble starts with Iran. Get them out of the picture and I think there will be much more stability in that part of the world.

Anyways you both have submitted some well written and well thought out opinions

  10. man - our cupboards are pretty bare and I can't go to the store til Graham gets home since we only have one car.......I am craving a salad.

Better take your kid with you lest she be lured into delinquency by those ding dong ditch gangsters..

Your post cracked me up..we used to do that all the time. It's pretty sad the way people over-react these days, it's not like the kid was breaking windows or anything.

The shit we used to do as kids....we stole peoples mailboxes, egged houses, etc etc you name it...

  11. Interesting article

Like the other guy Lamont is going to be any better, he was on the news this morning where they were showing his "victory" celebration yesterday and who is there right smack dab in the middle of it all? Jesse Jackson....I guess he took a few days off from shaking down corporations and others to support this guy.

Just another politician sleazing up to the trough. That article paints Lieberman as a scum bag, it won't take this new dude but one term to become just as bad if not worse.

  12. Hard to believe it's been 11 years. I was in Lynchburg, TN of all places, with my cousins from Scotland checking out the Jack Daniels distillery. We were driving back to Nashville and they kept playing Dead tunes on the radio (which they never do down here) I got to thinking "this is weird" and sure enough they announced it. Fucking bummer......

Anyways...every year on this day it's All Dead....gonna go home after work and listen to the Fillmore West box set and hit the pipe. :dead

  13. I don't think any of the new songs have bad lyrics, they are just more sparse than what they have been doing the past couple of years.

They aren't as layered or as mysterious as the older songs are, but thats fine. To me they work well.

Consider "Impossible Germany", very sparse lyrics but the few lines in that song convey more than 15 pages ever could. I like that, it gets right to the point. Jeff's not where he was years ago and his songwriting is reflecting that. Good for him. As much as I like the "tortured" lyrics of albums past I'm sure I'm going to like the new songs just as much.

  14. Yeah, that was a real high point in Red Sox history, tossing an 80 year old man by his head.

Things can change real quick in baseball (especially w/ us playing the ChiSox and you the Royals), but you can't tell me you're not worried.

Nah the high point was beating Yankees 4 straight in October 04...but you figured I'd say that.

Sure there is plenty to worry about. Bullpen, injuries, etc, etc. Not to to worried as of yet. The Sox generally have an August melt-down, but all the injuries and a very inconsistent bullpen (and starting pitching) are taking their toll. It cracks me up that there is some writer on MSNBC.com stating it will be a NY vs NY world series. Jeeeezus theres still about 50 games or so.

Just wanted to take a cheap shot at your earlier post that's all (all in fun)
