  1. "eddie" on the 9:30 forum (IMP is the promoter for this show) said likely doors at 7, Autumn Defense at 8, Jeff at 9. I'm going alone and am not particularly picky about where I sit so I probably won't get there til around 7:30. I've never been to a seated GA show before--I guess it's no different from going to a sold-out movie, but still seems weird.
  2. Awesome. Good luck with the taping--I'm so looking forward to this show tomorrow night.
  3. Good luck finding tickets. I noticed yesterday that the asking prices on ebay and craigslist seem to have come down substantially, so you might look there if the newly-released box office tickets don't come through.
  4. I so love this band. It's great that they're actually doing something about scalping while holding ticket prices (somewhat) down. I wonder if anyone who paid scalpers for the revoked tickets will have trouble getting their money back.
  5. 2008-02-27 at the 9:30 Club. There's an excellent audience recording floating around out there, plus the show was broadcast on NPR so there's a well-mixed soundboard, too, that was released as an extra feature for download in connection with the Ashes DVD.
  6. I read somewhere it seats about 1250, which is only slightly more capacity than the 9:30 Club. This thing must have sold out quick.
  7. Got my ticket in the regular sale! Now I just have to make sure I can actually go to the show that night...
  8. Yeah, I got nothing, despite hitting refresh every 15 seconds from 9:56 until the start of the presale. What's the use of OCD if it doesn't help me get tickets? I'll try again tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic. These GA sales in smallish venues are a scalper's paradise.
  9. Sure enough, some asshole has tickets to the DC show up at ebay for $230 apiece. Who knows if they actually got them in the presale or are just speculating...
  10. Me too. I can only hope that the scalpers get screwed holding will call-only tickets.
  11. 1. Wilco 2. Wilco, because R.E.M.'s recent track record ain't so great, and I still just don't get Radiohead. 3. Hope springs eternal.
  12. Artists that are not in the RRHOF that are better than most of those nominated this year: The Cars Cheap Trick Chicago The Cure Deep Purple Def Leppard Dick Dale Gram Parsons Herman's Hermits KISS Lou Reed (solo) MC5 The Monkees New York Dolls Red Hot Chili Peppers Replacements Three Dog Night Yes and many, many, more... http://www.futurerocklegends.com/previously_considered.php
  13. If a Manhattan is manly enough for Fat Tony, it's manly enough for me. What's girly are all these vodka-based cocktails that are all named variations of "-tini." Oh, and cosmos.
  14. If you haven't already tried it, I'd recommend Old Granddad bottled-in-bond (the 100-proof version, not the 86). It's got more rye than most bourbons, so it makes a great cocktail mixer for drinks that traditionally call for rye. As among the ryes you listed, I've not had any of them except Sazerac, which was quite good as a mixer as well. I don't much like rye as a sippin whiskey, though...
  15. I came to this realization recently as well. I used to go to shows hoping to hear particular songs (or not to hear songs I've heard several times before), at least in part because of the message board mentality (which I share) that it's really cool to hear stuff that never gets played. But that kind of score-keeping ended up distracting me from the show. I only get to see Wilco maybe once a year, so I should just relax and enjoy it when they're on stage. Sure, I don't need to hear Walken or ITMWLY *again*, but those five minutes are still better than most of the rest of my life. Better t
  16. Why not let all the Bush-era tax cuts expire? After all, they were just tax cuts for the wealthy anyway, right?
  17. The Palladia website has a list of shows that have been on (don't know if it's exhaustive but if not it's close) and there's no Wilco on there. They don't have a lot of unique content--they show the same (mostly crappy) stuff over and over. It's possible that the Pines show could have been aired on MTV Europe or something, but as far as I can tell it's never been aired here. I would think that the band would have made some sort of announcement if it was going to air...
  18. My understanding of "groupings" is that it allows you to tag songs with the same grouping, and then when you shuffle, it will play all the songs in a group together. So for example, you can tag "Red-Eyed and Blue" and "I Got You" so that they'll always play together, just like God and Tweedy intended. At least that's what I'm hoping--they haven't come up yet on my shuffle.
  19. I just saw that Wolf Trap will be having McGuinn at the Barns next April (they announce their season pretty far in advance, I guess). I wouldn't mind if Tweedy swung by this way around then.
  20. True, and that's awesome, but I wouldn't mind a double bill with the Old 97's. I will, however, settle for 3 hours of DBT.
  21. That's so awesome. I love them Truckers. I'll be seeing them this Friday at the 9:30 club, but they won't have an opener as great as the Old 97's.
  22. Ah, the 90s...the last time I actually knew what was going on in mainstream pop music. Those were the good old days. I pretty much never listen to comemrcial radio anymore. The 90s pop rock era was the last time commercial radio (at least in DC) held any appeal. But then MTV went to full-time reality trash TV instead of videos, WHFS went ranchero, and before long I had no idea what the kids these days are listening to. Sigh.
  23. I don't think Wilco's done a flawless album yet. Being There and YHF are close. AGIB is perhaps the closest and yet about 11 minutes away from flawless...
  24. Well, that was a whole lot of nothing.
