Being Republican or Democrat isn't based on whether or not you want to keep your money - it's based on what government you want. Of course, it's a relatively moot point now, with the size of the government now, so it's basically a big government vs. a bigger government. You want a smaller government? Pay for everything yourself. You want a bigger government? Pay the government to take care of it for you. That's really how simple it is, for everything concerning the government except for a couple of institutions.
