  1. The number of students taking AP classes has increased, mainly due to districts moving to raise them, but they are far from highly the norm. Hardly the norm is more like it. There are certainly 'bullshit' classes, such as Practical Arts, but at least from my direct experience teaching high school for 24 years, most seniors do not have a lot of 'bullshit' classes. I would say that the opposite is often true. A fair amount, though certainly not the majority, of seniors take AP and Dual Enrollment classes that they shouldn't. Not everyone should go to college. That is why oft-maligned as 'bullsh
  2. Republican State Senator Chris Buttars earlier this month proposed ditching a fourth year of high school statewide, calling 12th grade a time for "nothing but playing around." "You're spending a whole lot of money for a whole bunch of kids who aren't getting anything out of that grade," Buttars said. Ha ha! I will read that to my Advanced Placement students tomorrow. They'll get a kick out of it, I'm sure. What a yokel.
  3. For me, it is a contradiction to want more democracy/less government, but also want the government, i.e. term limit law/amendment, to tell you that you cannot vote for an incumbent that you may feel is the best candidate. I understand the logic of citizens voted for term limits, therefore they are democratic, but why you (not you, you) would want to take away the voter's ability to decide, is beyond me.
  4. I agree with Beltmann and CrowDaddyMagnus(edit - Whoops! I don't have a trademark sign. The @ was wrong). It always strikes as odd that many of those that want 'less government' are strongly in favor of such an undemocratic thing as term limits. A total contradiction.
  5. Say... we are off Labor Day weekend! Our best friends and fellow Wilco fans live in Evergreen. We haven't been out there since the 2 Denver Fillmore shows in September 2007. The tickets are $56! Does that include other bands or just Wilco? If only Wilco, that's a hefty ticket! https://tickets.completeticketsolutions.com/Online/seatSelect.asp
  6. Thanks for the link. I read the article but the dateline and the first sentence told me all that I needed to know. "SANDPOINT, Idaho — Pam Stout has not always lived in fear of her government."
  7. As I said pages ago, I think that it was in this thread, I am done with JohnO. Why many of you otherwise intelligent people engage him is beyond me. It can't be that entertaining. Talk about violating forum rules, he is clearly here to bait. What percentage of his posts are not in Tongue Tied Lightning? The guy is fish in a barrel. How is 'sparring' enjoyable? Ignore it and it will go away. That's just me, though. Carry on.
  8. Though some see it as being bad form to self-quote, I assume that no replies mean that no one believes that a One World Government is in the planning stages and/or is concerned by this possibility.
  9. It is damned difficult for my wife and I to sit. Wilco? Sit? That isn't happening, I wanna rock! We don't get in anyone else's space but stand and move at our seats. That said, I agree with Speed Racer and if no one else is standing in our area and we clearly aren't being trendsetters, then we always begrudgingly sit down. Fortunately, I can count on one hand the number of those types of Wilco shows. Even when we succumb to the thankfully rare social pressure to stay seated, we are still moving. I respect that someone doesn't want to stand and move, dance, feel the spirit, etc. but barring
  10. Honestly, I am not trying to bait and I will not respond to positive responses to my forthcoming query. I am truly interested in knowing if someone actually believes that a One World Government is being planned by current world leaders. If someone is sincerely concerned about a coming One World Government, I respectfully request that you reply as such in this thread. Again, I will not respond in any way. I am simply curious. Thank you in advance.
  11. Until the above post, I thought well of you and had never heard of Ameros, therefore I Googled. Now I know about Ameros and think ill of you. Thanks a hell of a lot for exposing me to fine websites such as: http://www.amerocurrency.com/ and http://www.onemillionameros.com/ , Good Old Jerkface.
  12. I read the link. Then I read the comments section. Here is a good representation of them: "danybhoy February 11, 2010, 12:57 pm at 12:57 pm Here is a little secret, climate change is a fancy way of saying weather. The weather is always changing, & it goes in cycles. 1.Spring 2.Summer 3.Fall 4.Winter Repeat anually. Not too difficult to figure out." Again, credibility blown. The blog is read by yahoos.
  13. Attributing the above quote to Tom Brokaw can only be the work of a conspiracy theorist attempting to discredit the erudite newsman by making him appear to be some unlearned yokel.
  14. One world is enough for all of us, brother. But only if it has a single government, of course.

  16. Give me a messenger that doesn't sound crazy as a shit house rat, 'One world government!, One world government!', and I won't attack him (or her).
  17. I read Snoop's entire post. If it had been the exact same words minus the bits about 'the one world government', it likely would have given me pause. When you say that Climate Change/Global Warming is linked to the 'one world government crowd', then you may as well say that 'weather and climate are the same thing' or 'Europe is a hell hole'. Your credibility is gone. Are John Coleman and JohnO one and the same?
  18. I disagree. That would be no different than saying, "Look at the snow! Global warming is a hoax!".
  19. Though I would love to, I am not going to the Stockholm show and cannot speak about the venue or springtime. I did spend my winter break in Sweden in 1987. I went at the invitation of the parents of some exchange students that I had the year before. I was in Gothenburg for Christmas and New Years Eve (I totaly enjoyed the cultural diffences of the yuletide holiday)and Stockholm inbetween. Stockholm is a beautiful city, with the requisite museums, palace and other big city sites and though it was over 22 years ago, I remember it being easy to get around. The Gamla Stan, the old city on an islan
  20. Regardless of Sparky and/or the video producer just trying to be humorous, it's things like this that make people question the intelligence and/or level of ignorance of others. Whatever your view is on climate change, the cold winter that the northern hemisphere is experiencing is irrelevant. Weather and climate are not the same thing. Therefore to say, "look at the snow, global warming is a hoax", is just stupid.
  21. 'An Evening With Wilco' will prove to be Wilco at their most prolific. I told you that I'd keep 'em coming, Atticus. Enjoy!!
  22. More evidence of the kind of person Salinger was. "Meeting JD Salinger - Courtesy of A Rainstorm" from NPR (Listen, if you can. It's better than reading it): http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123080309
  23. Comment 7 at AD is: "Here are those trax, hopefully a fix: http://www.mediafire.com/?2ya1mg4kjxm 7 | Satisfied '75 January 28th, 2010 at 3:50 pm" Following comments say that does the trick. I haven't been home to try yet.
  24. Please forgive me if you are excited because you are a New York Times subscriber. In my original post, I typed New York Times in error. I hope that you paid attention to The New Yorker link when you became excited. I edited the above. Sorry for taking up more thread space also.
  25. Keep in mind that if you are a subscriber to the New Yorker, or know one, you can read all of the stories that Salinger wrote for them in their archives. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/backissues/2010/01/postscript-j-d-salinger.html
