  1. i have been at the mall with cahtzee and offspring, and now i'd like popcorn but i don't know where the popper is.
  2. no! i'll give you a hint....you know this person pretty well.
  3. yay! looks like a beautiful day! congratulations.
  4. we went to the city forester's for dinner and had a delicious pot roast for dinner, but the blueberry pie was, unfortunately, substandard. caliber brought a nice south african wine which was a big hit.
  5. it was not cahtzee, although she has been known to wash all the dishes in the sink when visiting. Guess again! this is fun!
  6. the best candidate is the best candidate. But,one that isn't going to call in sick for a week while Jamie is home with the chicken pox, or be unable to work her shift at work because there's a snow day or any number of incredibly legitimate child related issues is, to me, someone who will be more productive.
  7. dear caliber are you wondering who washed that roasting pan that has been sitting in the sink all week? hint: it wasn't the cats.
  8. oh. i was hoping there was actual science! how long do other drugs stay in your system, like coke or opiates?
  9. where is the science that says folks who smoke pot are more likely to be into kiddie porn? or folks who are into kiddie porn are more likely to be stoned at work?
  10. i can tell you that i am far less productive on days that i have to write grant reports to the EPA than days when i access VC from the office.
  11. i suspect that number is so big it hasn't even been invented yet.
  12. oh please. running out of hot dog buns can demoralize the red sox these days!
  13. i don't know if it is legal to not hire someone based on anything other than illegal behavior. I don't think you can not hire someone because they have unsafe gay sex, and i don't think you can not hire someone because they had two beers last night... I could be wrong though--we have had a republican administration the last eleventy hundred years...
  14. dear caliber why did no one post here today? Was the thought of butt pee from homemade beer enough to scare them all away?
  15. well, if what drug testing is about is keeping health costs down, then yeah. But if that isn't what drug testing is about, then no. But the truth is that there are many things that cause people to be not productive at work and if you can not hire based on drugs that you do on your time away from the office, then you should be not hiring based on other behaviors or lifestyle choices that affect work place production. However, illegal drugs are the only thing that are illegal so i suppose that's the only thing you can measure. But if i had to chose between a mom with two little kids and a wom
  16. and if what employers really want to do is insure good health they'd hire based on genetics, whether or not you wash your hands every time you use the bathroom, whether or not you smoke, whether or not you engage in risky sexual behavior etc.
  17. i suspect that they track unproductivity the same way they do with other things like illness and child care issues. You're not productive if you're not physically at work because you're either sick, hungover, chasing pink elephants thru the neighborhood or at home with a sick baby. it seems to me (and frankly i don't care either way because i have neither a drug problem or children) that testing for one thing that may or may not make you unproductive (like drugs) but not other things (alcohol, internet gambling, children) seems hardly equitable or even realistic...? i'll tell you a little a
  18. i suspect it effects smaller businesses than anything else, which isn't really good for the economy, but whatever, i'm not an economist. It seemed like a lot of money to me. I did find this neat article about drug testing in the UK when trying to find a dollar amount lost on drug related issues. I wasn't able to find that $ amount, btw. http://www.jrf.org.uk/knowledge/findings/foundations/694.asp wow! that's a huge number. i wonder what that means/includes... and, i wonder how much of that is alcohol abuse and related issues, because you can't test for that and its not illegal, so it
  19. yes, you've made it quite clear that you have no regrets on that.
  20. studies have shown that US businesses lose up to 3 billion dollars a year due to child-care related issues, and i wonder if the amount lost due to illegal drug related issues is higher, lower or the same?
  21. a good dog would not have let you leave your wallet in the car in the first place.
  22. i think you need one of those dogs that aids the disabled.
  23. he plays more than wakefield, was what i was tryin' to say.
  24. we have some too! (J4 Art that is.)
