Glenn in NYC and Wilco in Toronto on 12/05/2008
replacements75 replied to dchunt11's topic in Just A Fan
I too was really curious about this because I'm going to The Kotche/ Kronos gig and am really looking forward to it. I was so curious in fact that I contacted both Carnegie Hall and Wilco's management. And while I don't have copies of the emails anymore (being totally anal and paranoid I emailed them months ago when I first noticed the schedule conflict). I was assured by both that Glenn would be in NYC for tonight's event. Seeing as how Glenn is scheduled to give a discussion prior to the show, it seemed fairly certain that he would need to be there. As for what's going on with Wilco toni -
Hmmmm, I wonder. I sincerely hope that the Carnegie show is on but of course I would understand if it got postponed for the "money" gig. I'd be upset if its only Kronos Quartet even though I know they are wonderful I was mostly interested to see them with Kotche. Though I think that I would be equally disappointed to see Wilco without Glenn if I were going to the Toronto show.

Funny, I had kind of anticipated the loudness of this show and actually brought and used earplugs that I had picked up many years ago at Sam Ash. It was the first time I have ever used them but I am certain my hearing has been damaged from years and years of concert going and I am getting to the age where I am concerned about such things. I have to say that I don't feel like I missed too much with them in though I wasn't crazy about it. Though I am glad I wore them because my ears felt good the next day and I know they would not have otherwise. Wow, I'm like an old man now.

Yeah, I won too! Awesome, can't wait to enjoy it on my hour and a half commute to work.

Excellent performance by Nels. Great stuff by Thurston and Lee. I had to leave during J Mascis set so I don't know if they came out again at the end of the show. But I have to say I was completely satisfied with what I witnessed. What these guys are doing with the electric guitar is really incredible. Especially Nels, his use of effects and technique is amazing. I am really happy that I was there to witness it.

I've been to quite a few Wilco shows and I must say that this was an altogether excellent show in my opinion. I went to the Residency while my fiance was unable to and feel like this was a good consolidation of those shows (discounting the fact that there was nothing off of AM) for her. The Total Pros really added to the Residency and I was glad that they were present in Brooklyn; they really add something special to the live performance. Nels was right on with so many of his licks as was Tweedy. Jeff's voice was in excellent form. Pat and Mikael's flourishes were integral and illuminatin

While watching the clips of Wilco doing the Ciubs game thing I kept coming back to the thought that they should really sell those Cubs jerseys with their names on it. Either as a one time auction for the actual ones they wore or as reproductions on their website (repros could have a little Wilco patch on the sleeve or something). They looked pretty awesome!

As far as the building maintenance fee goes, I agree that is should be built into the ticket price. To me that charge is part of the facility's cost of doing business. It might be nit picky to want them to just included it in the ticket price but really who needs to know how much of the ticket price goes to the facility up keep. It's almost like going to a restaurant and being charged an additional fee and having it just be said oh thats for the building. Hello! You are a business you don't need to charge separate fees for every business expense that you incur! Just bundle it all into the

I got mine!!!! Can't wait. I've never seen Wilco outdoors. Should be fun!!!

The remixing of some discs is god awful. I noticed this with the Who reissue of My Generation. I still prefer my Mono analog original CD of the My Generation album (since I gave up on vinyl a few years ago anyway) than the new stereo remix. And the REM remixes for the I Feel Fine greatest hits record might be the worst thing I've ever heard because it really just removes the nuances of the jangly guitar and beefs up the bass and the drums where they overpower the sound. That being said I got the Replacements records on Tuesday (if you can't tell by my screen name I'm a huge Mats fan and I

NOLA! That's funny. I had the same problem last year when I was headed down to New Orleans for French Quarter Fest. My flight was supposed to land around when the puyblic onsale started for the Hammerstien shows. Then my flight was delayed but we had a stop over in Dallas so while in Dallas just as we got off the plane I whipped out my cellphone and called up and after all the automated prompts, I got my tickets. So it is possible. McCarren Park is a huge venue so there is a good chance that you can do that. You might even benefit from calling a Ticketmaster number that is not 212 or 71

I too was under the impression that this was a collaborative effort. Though either way it should be excellent. I was wondering when they got together to work this out though because as far as I can tell there is only a small break in the Wilco tour schedule before this show. Glenn is an amazing performer and so talented. And Bryce is awesome too. Even without the National, just check out the work he's done with the Clogs where he plays a more classical guitar sound. So either way I think this will be an excellent show weather they play solo or together. I did get nervous about thi

I don't know if this was mentioned before but I got an email from the band the National (who are awesome and everyone should check out) about a show that their guitarist and Glenn are playing in NYC. Looks like Glenn isn't taking any sort of break in between playing North America and heading off to Australia. Anyone else going? I got tickets for the 13th. Very excited, Glenn is such an amazing player. I saw Jeff's solo show here where Glenn opened for him. I fell in love with a drummer. 13 MAR: NYC, NY - THE KITCHEN / Bryce Dessner + Glenn Kotche w/ Matthew Richie // Tickets >>

I just went out to the mailbox to find my Priority Mail envelope. Eagerly ran inside with it and tore it open. Oh what will the 5-day pass look like? It felt substantial like it might be a laminated pass but when I opened the Music Today envelope... 5 tickets brought to you by, you guessed it Ticketmaster. Oh well now that the type of ticket mystery is answered, I am just glad to be going. Hope everyone else is as ecstatic as I am!

So I'm going to Residency and I was just curious if anyone here thought it was at all likely that Wilco will fill in Sunday the 17th with a secret gig somewhere? Or do we think that like god they need to rest on the 7th day? Oh and if anyone knows that they will be throwing a secret gig, please let me know. Not to be greedy but I'm flying in and want to get as much Wilco as possible while I'm in town.

I was a Wilco fan since I first heard AM. Which was a little bit after Being There had come out which was even better then AM. I was hooked. I then went back and got into Uncle Tupelo. Summerteeth was an amazing record as well and I think its the record that really solidified what I loved about the band. All the different elements. So by the time YHF was supposed to come out and they got dropped and it was in limbo I was salivating for the record. Some how I got a copy of YHF on cd (I don't even remember who sent it to me) before it was streamed even. Then Sept 11th hit and being in NY

Hey, LouieB thanks for the heads up on the proximity to the El. I thought it didn't look too far on the map, like a few blocks away or something. I got my hotel there through Priceline. I bid 60 bucks a night for a 4 or 5 star hotel in the Loop and thats what they gave me. Not bad I figured even if its not incredibly close to the Riv. I'll be there for the Residency and will be doing some touristy stuff during the days. I was going to do the Hostel thing but then I figured for not too much more I could have my own room. Not a bad deal. I would suggest Priceline to everyone. I never u

Anyone have any thoughts on the Hyatt Regency on East Wacker Drive?

Yay!!! I got one!! Got in early actually, my computer clock still said 9:59. So I guess I have to make my travel arrangements now. I love that I have a job that I can get time off from practically any time I need. If only it paid me more then I wouldn't feel crazy for spending so much to see these shows. Oh well I guess this is my Christmas present to myself. This is so going to rock!!! So I'm coming in from NY. Are any locals going to suggest some bars or something for after parties for each show? Looks like Wilco are suggesting the Green Mill. Last time I was in Chicago I didn't

After having been lucky enough to have seen a Tweedy solo show and having a few live discs of his I have this to say. Some of the performances on Sunken are amazing and some are ok. Theologians being perhaps my least favorite performance of a great song ever. But I do think that the DVD is an attempt at recreating the feeling of being at the show and I think that it suceeds. An acoustic solo show is far different than a rock concert. At a rock concert it is all about bombast and in your face music that completely surounds you. And for the most part unless some jackass is right next to yo
