  1. the yankees pitching has been dismal at times but so has the offense. it has taken some time for the pitching and the hitting to line up on the same page. it seems to be there now, even with clemens and moose a little banged up. pettitte may be overpaid, but in the scheme of things, when you look at what team he plays for and how clutch he has been for them recently, i don't think he's that overpaid. pettitte and wang have been the most reliable pitchers for the yankees. wang has been highly underrated by baseball media this year. everyone talks about beckett like he's some wonderboy but wa
  2. i think it is different for every band and venue. i've seen soundchecks anywhere from 2 hours before the show to 6 hours before.
  3. oh man, i loved them. i saw them once in 2001, or early 2002 (i can't remember), and it was AMAZING. it was when they toured with death cab, before death cab got all slow and emoooo. they called it the death and dismemberment tour
  4. it is refreshing to hear that because i haven't been hearing good things about dylan live lately. however, i'm not going to shell out $55 to see dylan at stubb's when i can see him the next night at the festival, which i already paid $140 for.
  5. ACL tapings are terribly annoying to me. you have to stand around for hours, depending on who you're trying to get tickets for, and then you might not even get IN to the studio if you have tickets. i would rather just be able to BUY them and know that i'll get in. and as far as an opening act, or what have you, sometimes they DO have 2 bands play at one taping. for example, in july the decemberists and ghostland observatory did a taping on like a tuesday night. so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
  6. for whatever reason i'm not wild about blake's voice but i love that song lyrically. it's probably my favorite song that was written about elliott smith after he died, and there were quite a few! i also think that ripchord's placement on the album set it up to be one of the lesser liked songs on more adventurous. it's in between portions for foxes and i never which went over VERY well. my guess is a lot of people skip right over it.
  7. i believe that austinist listing is just for when the ticket drops will be announced. so they're not announcing it until sometime friday night so it looks like the ticket drop will be on saturday. my guess is it will be early on saturday AM since the taping is that afternoon. but hell, the ticket drop could end up being midnight on friday...who knows.
  8. i know it's not wilco but if anyone IS interested in the dylan show, it looks like there is going to be a presale. yeah, presale for a GA show. awesome! http://www.bobdylan.com/moderntimes/tour/main.html tweedling, you'll just have to try your darndest to get into the ACL taping on saturday afternoon.
  9. yep...i knew it. BOB DYLAN AND HIS BAND OFFICIAL ACL AFTERSHOW SATURDAY 9/15 DOORS @ 8 PM TICKETS ONSALE WEDNESDAY 9/12 @ 10 AM ONLINE ONLY THRU STUBBS.FRONTGATETICKETS.COM
  10. i can't imagine why on earth they would play that song. it is the longest one on the album! pretty much ANY other song would have been a better choice.
  11. i'd say without. he's probably more tired of hearing about it than i am. and i'm really tired of it.
  12. yeah, i'm pretty excited about kweller playing at the kiddie stage because i have to miss most of his regular set on sunday. i've never missed seeing ben in austin so i'm pretty bummed. at least the 15 minute kiddie set makes up for that a little.
  13. ben kweller announced yesterday that he is playing the 3:15 time slot at the kiddie stage on saturday. that's where it says "special guest" or whatever. this can be confirmed in the latest blog at myspace.com/benkweller.
  14. yes, and it is mentioned in the flaming lips song "thank you jack white (for the fiber optic jesus)
  15. i have one coming in the mail for me. i can send it out to a couple of people if anyone wants it. it might be a while though, i'm not sure that it has even left san francisco yet.
  16. aww i think this is a fantastic idea!
  17. the show and the sound were fine but i hated pretty much everything about the venue. it was like seeing wilco in a mall, even though it was "outdoors". the bathroom location was ridiculous, the parking sucked, the general aesthetics didn't appeal to me at all. i highly doubt that i'll ever return that venue again.
  18. you didn't have anything to do with that, did you?
  19. best: the mercury! it has the best sound in austin, hands down. i love that place! i've seen some amazinig shows at that venue. worst: lonestar pavilion at sunset station in san antonio. i hated it.
  20. come to think of it, the last time i had an american spirit was the night before the smoking ban went into effect in austin
  21. lots of bands do pre-sales for GA shows...it doesn't make any sense to me at all. i guess it is just piece of mind, knowing that you'll be able to get a ticket before anyone else? i dunno.
  22. and each one of those probably took 20 minutes to smoke. those things take forever!
