  1. It was nice to see so many VCers and other Wilco folks at the two Chicago shows. Great time!! (where was Jeff??) LouieB
  2. You would be with the plurality of voters for sure. Considering election day is just about three weeks from now, it might have been possible for him to close the gap and get 50% of the vote straight up. Now he may have a rougher time and have to go into a run-off. The conventional wisdom says he will be the next mayor of Chicago. If it is s contest between Gery Chico in the run-off I will certainly vote for him. And I think at this point he is the one guy who can wrestle the bureaucracy of this city and keep things under control. So it goes. And he will be the first Jewish mayor of Ch
  3. I was at both shows in Chicago and Karen was also way down in the mix. I don't most sound folks have any idea how to get the keyboards to be heard. Meanwhile Gary was smokin, despite only using one guitar. LouieB
  4. I really have no idea what Rahm's father did back in the old country, but in Chicago he was a very well respected pediatrician. It seems to me that smearing him is a bit ridiculous at this point. Unless someone wants to support Rahm, I don't know why you would go to this event. I haven't looked yet, but I hear there is a two night benefit for Jeff's kid's school. Shouldn't that be where people want to go? It will be much more fun and for a better cause. Rahm is swimming in money at the moment. His commercials play over and over again on Chicago TV. LouieB
  5. I just can't wait for President Palin.........a real whatever... LouieB
  6. I sure do. You could put on a record and the sound would finally start a minute later. Yea, there were tube testers in all sorts of places back in the 50s and early 60s. I know there is an entire underground culture that still trades in tubes and other old components for ancient electical equipment. It used to be you could use that kind of equipment forever, but it certainly had problems. Now you just have to throw old boomboxes and TVs away. Solid state technology was all the rage in the 60s. I remember my father getting his first portable transister radio. He couldn't have been more
  7. Too bad they couldn't have booked into a venue with some decent sound for this. LouieB
  8. Old fucker perhaps...but I used to listen to tube radios and watch TVs that had tubes. We may have also had a tube 78 player with steel needles. It was not uncommon for Woolworths and hardware stores to have tube testing equipment. I wish I had my old bakelite tube radio that my parents let me use. Ah the memories. At this point the only tube technology that has any cachet are stereos. LouieB
  9. Right..it includes transistors in the construction. LouieB
  10. Sounds like a ton of fun. Glad Calvino/Bob stepped up to help on the transportaion issue. (And as advertized, public transit can be trying.) Everyone has fun in Chicago!!! LouieB
  11. If Rahm were a real sport he would just go ahead with this as a regular show and can the political stuff. I mean why ruin a perfectly good reason for a Wilco/Jeff show? Or is it now a benefit for his lawyers....oy vey!!! LouieB
  12. Maybe a year long residency at every club and concert venue in Chicago. Back to reality though....the Trib is reporitng to day that Rahm has more money than eny of his competators and is planning to spend $150,000 on an ad during the Bears/Packers game tomorrow. As mentioned above, Rahm is gaining in the polls and may wrap this up by February 22. Frankly I have no doubt about this. LouieB
  13. I heard the new album at Lauries the other day and it sounded exactly like The Decemberists.... LouieB
  14. Yes we are a very clannish people (run the banking and entertainment industry too among others..) Meanwhile I am voting for Miguel.... LouieB
  15. This is all pretty funny. How can we know what Jeff is planning? He will announce his participation in any benefits when the benefits are ready to be announced. Most folks here don't care what the benefit is about anyway, so go see him at the Rahm benefit if you want to see Jeff play. What difference does it make where the money goes? Clearly if Jeff is playing it, then the cause is kosher. LouieB
  16. Didn't they name the place after him..it is Temple Emanuel. (And at least Rahm doesn't belong to Trinity UCC or pal around with that terrorist from Hyde Park....) LouieB
  17. Rahm now has support of over 40% of those polled. He has the benefit of a large campaign chest, which is only matched by Gery Chico's funds. Carol Mosely Braun is mainly cruising on her past political career. Miguel Del Valle is a fairly honest city official who is running well behind the pack and the rest...well who knows. Actually Jeff supporting him is becoming a bit of a non-issue. Rahm digs Jeff/Wilco and has asked him to play a benefit. Jeff plays lots of benefits. Why would he not play this one?? I was negative about it at first, but really, what's the diff? After the election
  18. As Wendy said, read through the thread, but also feel free to ask questions either in the thread or PM me directly. I may not answer questions in the thread because I have recently been yelled at in public and through PM about what I know or don't know. Remember, this is a big city and it is very cold this time of year. Bring lots of warm clothes and plenty of money and download a transit map. Again, feel free to PM me about stuff. Not sure what Wilco type stuff you want to do, but Jeff and every Wilco member past and present have played nearly every club of note mentioned in the thread
  19. And as we all know, there is no difference between Barack and Bush.... LouieB
  20. Maybe Barack called Jeff directly and asked him to do this. LouieB
  21. Yea, it is kind of creepy. I am currently supporting Del Valle, who of course doesn't have much of a chance. Everyone can certainly support whomever they choose, but I won't be shelling out $85 to see Jeff for this. Sorry Jeff. We all know the guy is going to be mayor, but really. Why not sit this one out?? At the present time, Rahm has raised more money than all the other candidates put together, he just got Bill Clinton here yesterday for a rally, and he is clearly the front runner. Not sure he needs Jeff's or our support at this point. LouieB
  22. Me too...great stuff...particularly the preflyte sessions. LouieB
  23. Really??? That seems strange. Then again he is probably going to be the next mayor, so what the heck. LouieB
