  1. Why not?? Its free and its acid relief PRIOR to Lolla.... LouieB
  2. click on my name, get my profile and then it says Personal Message on the right and click on that for the PM part of this program. Easy. LouieB
  3. Andrew is a unique talent. With his more recent stuff I wish he would just play violin, but he now does lots of looping and plucking and such, which is cool, but the guy can really kick out a jam when he wants to. LouieB
  4. There were three of us doing it for Glorious Noise. I was mostly manning the stationary camera in the back, so I was standing on the bench by the soundboard. TG was up on the right in front and John, the guy who does the editing was taping from midway back on teh side on the bench. The longhaired guy was in the front and NOT with us. There will be excerpts of the show on Glo No I think, but what do I know. It was fun and it appeared that we got good footage. I recall that we have met, but I don't specifically remember you at the show. LouieB
  5. Okay, my take on the first day of Pitchfork... Parking wasn't too bad. We parked near the public housing and walked over. It was already crowded at 1 and I headed over to see 8 Bold Souls, but only caught the last half of their set, which was in a tent and very hot. (temp and material.) The DJs up next were doing a DJ thing that got boring pretty fast. We then found a place in the shade, after checking out the record tent. The sound was loud enough to hear both stages even from a distance. It was possible to walk up and get pretty close on the sides and see the bands and that was cool.
  6. TG and I taped the accoustic show. I was really impressed. I can see how they are better in person than on record, but I have not heard their records. There are lots of groups out there that should be bigger than they are, but is nice to know great groups like this can still be seen at places like Schubas. LouieB
  7. Ted Leo was the highlight for me...more later. I am still tired. These fests are kinda stupid, particularly with the weather like this. Tons fo people there too. LouieB
  8. I have seen him periodically over the years. I like him. LouieB
  9. For those who missed Von last Tuesday because it was too late or too far or some other reason (which I won't mention...), Von is playing at the Pritzger Pavillion in Millenium Park this Thursday for free. Check it out on the big stage... LouieB
  10. First stop for me...8 Bold Souls.....great AACM group... LouieB
  11. Well for me too...long long gone, but I am preparing to go. I suspect there will be LOTS of out of towners at this thing. LouieB
  12. and the answer is....none I guess... LouieB
  13. First time out I didn't see you were from Dallas...you are used to this heat I guess.... LouieB
  14. Actually there are good schools in Lincoln Park, both public and private and magnet. Where did you go to school?? LouieB
  15. So User...what's the deal sista?? We are tired of guessing. LouieB
  16. I mean if this person has money, they can live anywhere, and I would recommend the northwest side or the southwest side and take the el to work. Or live in Evanston or Oak Park or St. Charles and take the Metra to work. I mean there are all kinds of options here, more than any of us can imagine. the beauty of living in a large metro area is that one has lots of reasonable public transportation. If one is poor or has to live near where they work that is another issue entirely. Still there are plenty of cheaper places to live that are off the beaten path (again the far northwest and sout
  17. True..but that doesn't mean they have a kid yet...one may be planned.... Still we have gotten no response from this person. We have no idea what they know about Chicago, how long they have been here, if they are a single parent, rich or poor, planning on a temporary place to live, etc. etc. I still sort of feel like we are shooting in the dark. LouieB
  18. That's correct. Usually the application is due by December (or used to be..not sure now.) We don't even know for sure if this person has kids do we? LouieB
  19. alison has made my point exactly (and even found a humbolt park example.) All these names are BS. Personally I can't imagine anything along Van Buren being somewhere you might want to raise a family. It is fine for to live there, but few of the west side schools (with the exception of Whitney Young HS), would meet most people's needs. Humbolt park is okay too, but there is some amount of street activity on some streets. That's part of big city life. Of course everyone can apply to the magnet schools, but most of them are on lottery so you are never sure if your kid is going to get in. T
  20. I more or less agree with that, but even the real estate designations are fairly fluid. If an area is getting gentrified it will be named something new to make it sound more attractive. So you may be shown an area in Humbolt Park (for example) that is made to sound really glamourous and may not be what you really want. Ultimately you have to decide where you want to live based on what the housing is like, what the crime rate is like and what the local schools are like and the rest is sort of irrelevant. We never really did hear back from the person starting this thread what they want
  21. It isn't that we chose not to disclose anything it is just that lots of people have already heard these things about us over and over and it has gotten kinda boring. But if you can sit still for this one more time, here goes. I came to Wilco through Uncle Tupelo, who I followed, but never saw because I was busy with a young family. I am far and away the oldest active person on the board, since I have been on this planet for 5.5 decades. I live within the city limits of Chicago and my daughter Tweedy's Gurl used to be the kid on block here, but now has a few years on her and is nearly ou
  22. Here are the official Chicago neighborhoods, opposed to the real estate designations. Many of the above designations on the map are real estate names rather than official neighborhood names. Lincoln Park is south of Diversy along the lakefront as Cryptic said. How they come up with this I am not sure, but many of the areas were towns that were later incorporated into the city. Much of what people think is Lincoln Park is actually Lakeview. LouieB
  23. This is a pretty complex question that is not easily answered on a message board. I mean it depends on how urban you feel like being and what you are expecting out of the schools where your kids go. Feel free to PM me where we can have a non-snide convo and some more info. As far as Lincoln Park, I wouldn't try and raise a family there either, but then I don't know what anyone means by Lincoln Park, unless we are talking about a homeless family living in the actual park. (See past discussions about real neighborhood names...) And before some accuses me of being nasty to someone wantin
  24. This far down the road..no one wants to know.... LouieB
