  1. I don't know, the time that I was in Vintage Vinyl they had lots of customers. Frankly the old fashioned record store has the same problem that all retailers have, including large departments stores, specialty stores and other store front operations. There will always be a certian number of people who like to shop in stores and there will be an increasing number who are just as content to sit in front of a computer and order offline. I do both and see the value in both. No business can afford to sit back and believe that their storefront operation is the only way to sell product. In fact
  2. I agree...there are more hippies with cowboy hats than ever....it never went away.... LouieB
  3. Actually it includes tons of artists on Bloodshot, New West and a whole host of folks who play roots connected rock, country, bluegrass, rockabilly, etc. If you read No Depression you know alt.country is hardly dead, there are thousands of musicians out there trying their hands at it. LouieB
  4. Thank goodness, where would I spend my time afterwork and my (relatively) hard earned dollars.... LouieB
  5. I bought a copy and have never been able to read it. I like bios and autobios, but for some reason because I know Jeff a little bit, it is like being a voyeur and I just couldn't do it. Nice pics though. I did look at them. LouieB
  6. Vals Halla in Oak Park, IL is closing its doors after 30 years.....sad. LouieB
  7. Saw him at the Auditorium, a few weeks after Born to Run came out and after he ended up on the cover of Time and Newsweek in the same week. It was wild (and innocent and the e-street shuffle.) LouieB
  8. Rosie and I saw them at the Metro, front and center. I haven't not let her go to stuff. What did I do?? hmmm..... LouieB
  9. Wow...who is the lucky winner? All those who have not planned to come to this should come anyway.... LouieB
  10. ...and your college work is getting done when?? Calexico is much better in person than on CD. They aren't the world's greatest songwriters, but as intrumentalists they rule. LouieB
  11. Maybe the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band will get back together.... LouieB
  12. I had heard Marah was playing, but didn't know anything about the Bottle Rockets....damn. I was hoping to find a reason to be in Springfield on business, but it isn't going to happen. Sounds like a good time (for a change in Springfield.) I have not seen Scott H. Biram, but if his CD is any indication, that will be a good show too. LouieB
  13. I don't disagree with this either, because I did like The Wind. And I have listened to this Cash album and it is is okay in many respects. I am done arguing about the actual material (a lame Gordon Lightfoot song and Rod McKuen??!??? ugh....), which ranges from truly affecting to non-essential. And the tasteful back-up, added later, is well suited to the material. Someday when it crosses my tracks used I will probably buy it to go with the other Rubin produced material of Cash's I have, but somehow something feels weird about this one. I can't quite put my finger on it, despite all the di
  14. bumpty bump....hopefully it will be cooler next week. LouieB
  15. Ya know, it ain't bad, but it sure isn't prime stuff. I wasn't goign to get back into this EVER, but let's face it, when you want to remember Zevon, THe Wind isn't going to be the album you put on. Excitable Boy is the way I want to remember him. It is fair enough to say that Rubin presented Johnny well. I agree with that, but to say this was the REAL Cash is just plain goofy. I am certain Sam Phillips felt like he captured the real Johnny and I am sure that Johnny's Columbia producers (did John Hammond ever have anything to do with him?? Don't remember) also felt like it presented the r
  16. Going to Orlando for a conference.....no more posts for awhile. LouieB
  17. Music wise I totally agree. While Jay played a role in writing some of the songs and riffs, the current band, particularly Nels and Glenn, function more as a jazz band and are given the freedom to improvise. I wish the keyboard players got more of that kind of time, but even that seems to be happening more than it used to. LouieB
  18. Into thin Air is one of the scariest books ever.... LouieB
  19. Wilco was ALWAYS the Jeff Tweedy Band, the same as Son Volt is the Jay Farrar band. At least Wilco still has John. Wilco and Son Volt are both the reflection of and the creation of their leaders. LouieB
  20. Yea, we are done and it doesn't diminsh the Beach Boys to discuss all the great groups that preceeded them. LouieB
  21. I refused to go, we went to see The War Tapes instead... Actually I kind of liked the first one, but only saw it on video. II will also be viewed on video. Had they dragged Keith Richards into it for most of the film (which I guess he is only slightly in it) I would have gone. LouieB
