  1. I think they were vinyl, not leather, but I could be wrong. They looked uncomfortable in any event. LouieB
  2. Weezer ignoring you is better than her giving you a hard time.... I've experienced that too. One night she actually was NICE to my friends from out of town (I think you were there) and told us to come back soon. THAT was a shock. By the way, the album "the Improvisor" was partially recorded at one of these sessions and is really good. LouieB
  3. I think this is the weakest track on the album, but it was a huge single for them. I mean it hardly even belongs on the album and certainly has little to do with the rest of the concept. It is a "folk song", not written by Brian and company and is really pretty corny in general. After too many years of hearing it on the radio, it is the one thing on the album I sometimes skip entirely. I googled it to figure out who DID write it and it turns out to be Lee Hayes and Carl Sandburg, a couple hip dudes....it was covered by the Kingston Trio first, not sure who else, but it had already been pretty
  4. Wouldn't it be nice.... LouieB
  5. I think we are all confirmed for the 25th. Looks like others can make it then too. I will have some comp days coming so I can skip work the next day and hang at the New Apartment to all hours....yea!!!! Vonski and Weezer and all the nutty vocalists, here we come. LouieB
  6. Exactly....!!! (I saw Riviera just last week at the Hideout by the way...) I am okay with cover bands IF they have something going for them besides a relentless disco beat, lame singing and nauseating costuming like most of these folks had. In fact a good tribute band or a really fun bar band can be a rockin good time. Sadly the worst of the cover bands was the one right before Andrew. (actually I missed cover band #1 so they may have been the worst...) It just seemed a shame to be losing more hearing on what they were putting out, which was crap. I thought Jeff's comment about not getti
  7. Actually I bought the Big Sea. I figured there was more than one. Now all I have to do is actually read it. I have a copy of Claude McKay's autobiography that I bought more than a decade ago that I have never read. As far as the pot smokers in the place, someone needs to get the Milwaukeans a better quality weed, the stuff near us smell like skunk. It was certainly a better experience than my first time three years ago, but good is relative. At least it was cool so the crush of humanity wasn't so bad. I really wish they would attempt to book some acts that had some originality. I realiz
  8. Hours later I realized the guy was putting us on.....no harm done. LouieB
  9. I wondered that too..I figured we SAW the record last night.....(probably not...but it sure seemed close.) In fact I may have lost 5 misunderstoods, I don't know. Someone who taped it will know the real answer. By the way, it was nice to see you last night. I lost your student in the crowd after the show, so I didn't get to hear how he liked it. Good to know you inserted the Harlem Rennisance into your class. I just bought an autobiography of Lanston Hughes recently (I don't know if there are more than one, this is his early life). LouieB
  10. Although I didn't watch that much of it, the video seemed remarkably good. LouieB I counted 55.... LouieB
  11. I would like a copy too... By the way, having seen Son Volt recently, Jeff wins the battle of the bands hands down. Not only has Jeff become a better songwriter, bandleader and guitar player, he is also an entertainer who seems genuinely happy and pleased to be on stage and fronting a band. Jay Farrar ain't bad (I enjoyed him at Randolph St.), but there is no comparision to a night out with Jeff and night out with Jay. (As for Jay Bennett, I had people asking whatever happened to the guy.) LouieB
  12. I don't usually read reviews from shows I don't go to, but this is so wrong (no offence); three days later in Milwaukee (by the way Jeff's leg seemed better last night) Nels and company was right on target and the ghost of Jay Bennett has been banished except for those riffs that he wrote that the band still needs. The last thing Jeff needs is Jay; he is gone for good. (I like the so called homeless dude look by the way, I have sported it for years...) LouieB
  13. I was expecting bbop to post the set list. This was a terrific show. Wilco brought their A game and the band seemed really into it. Let's start from the beginning, which included having to sit through three cover bands, one of which was so horrible it was beyond belief. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack if they didn't stop the heavy bass of the keyboard player; really obnoxious stuff. I found time to leave the stage area during the cover bands, because they were so boring/dreadful. However, even during these groups, there were several light moments, particularly the heavy meta
  14. Someone is in a bad mood. Pet sounds gets kudos here about every 6 months and rightly so. My snide comment reflects the fact that we do talk about it here regularly. LouieB
  15. Can we talk about something different now?? LouieB
  16. No THAT was obscure... LouieB
  17. That's not obscure... LouieB
  18. Paramount Masters....on my I-pod. LouieB
  19. Agreed....seeing Junior Brown tear into Dylan songs will be quite the sight. LouieB
  20. Count Basie...it was in my drawer at work. LouieB
  21. This came up earlier....I heard a special on this recently, sounded pretty good. LouieB
  22. These will be some crazy shows, with the guitarists upstaging everyone else. LouieB
  23. Under the pedestrian bridge near Balbo. LouieB
  24. Hell this was an argument from weeks ago..sure I will eat it. I am sure it is an interesting and affecting listen. Hearing someone on their last legs sing has to be a pretty emotional experience. Not quite in the same category, are Ralph Stanley's recent albums. LouieB
