  1. The Chicago Reader this week has a story about some soul material from Birmingham Alabama that as been recently released by former Laurie's clerk John Ciba. I half read this article yesterday not realizing I knew the person involved, but only because I was interested in material on the CD. I plan to pick it up today. There was a record release party at the Hideout that I missed, but I hear it was really great, with both musicians represented on the CD and Chicago musicians collaborating. Lauries has copies for sale of this CD. This kind of musical archiving is really necessary and a gre
  2. August 31 for all those interested....Thursday night. Prayers are in order I think. But maybe this is just what Thax needs. Maybe he can start taking better care of himself, get more focused and lose some of the baggage he has been carrying around Chicago. I sure hope that he has some support system. LouieB
  3. I don't know why, but I ordered a couple. LouieB
  4. As one of the only fans of Al Gore in 2000 it would be nice, but it ain't gonna happen. Hillary is the front runner based on name recognition, etc. Otherwise they will find some band new to stick up in 08 hoping nothing sticks to the new person and they get some votes based on the fact that they are NOT a Republican. I bet the 08 election also downplays party affiliation, but that will be not quite possible. LouieB
  5. Thax's MO here in Chicago has been to get his name and work out as part of the opening of shows. I doubt that the NYC venues will be as open to him walking right in free of charge to read a short and unconnected piece of work prior to the musicians playing. NYC has tons of would be poets looking for ways to get their work to the public. LouieB
  6. Yea, me too, the guy is a dick.... LouieB
  7. True, any kids who listen to Igor Stravinsky should be commended....then they might get into Bartok, Stockhausen, Cage, Feldman, etc. LouieB
  8. Hey thanks....Not as old as Crosby, but feel like it some days. Crosby certainly lucked out. I have bunches of albums he is on, both solo, with Nash and with CSN and Y. LouieB
  9. I have to admit it, I think I am still not ready for this movie, just as I was not ready for Flight 93. LouieB
  10. Hmmmm...weird...no one wants to volunteer? You get in free.... LouieB
  11. That is correct. it was also known as the "war to end all wars" too I believe, maybe after the fact. It was noted in the Trib today that the US has been fighting in Iraq longer than we fought the Germans (though not yet the Japanese) in WWII. LouieB
  12. I suppose it depends on your definition of style. LouieB
  13. Sounds like they must have a really bad contract. Why not release these things on some indie label and be done with it. LouieB
  14. Not a typo, just my stupid phonetic spellling in a pinch. Hey I am fine with a new word...clearly I have no idea how to really spell it... LouieB
  15. While driving through Wisconsin and Michigan this past week I noticed that political posters for different candidates for office no longer identify the candidate by political party. This may not be a new pnenominon, but it seems to me that in the old days people wanted to be aligned with the two major parties. Now however with the Republicans backing away from Bush his policies and the Democrats being at a million loose ends, I think people would rather just run as themselves and not be too closely aligned with the major national parties at all. I can hardly blame them I suppose. Despite
  16. Yea I did. Not all that illuminating really..... By the way, I think WWIII has been averted for the time being. LouieB

  19. I had no idea Cash Audio was still together either (maybe they aren't.) LouieB
  20. I was thinking the same thing...... No one should worry about what your kids listen to, unless they think they are being directed by the devil in the music telling them to kill someone. Let it go, they may end up as Dylan fanatics anyway. LouieB
  21. There are still some vinyl copies floating around out there, in fact I got one in the last year. We used to listen to these albums when I was in college and I never bothered to buy them. LouieB
  22. yea, I don't really get this thread. Aren't most of the songs on Being There fairly simple and straight forward and everyone likes that album. LouieB
  23. That was mostly a tongue in cheek comment. I know just about everything is back in print. LouieB
