  1. I did. Mentioning Bill Bryson to someone prompted the recommendation for Wandering Home. well that and how I was going on and on about the light in the Adirondacks. Apparently I am not the first to note the magic of it, as proven by McKibben. I also bailed on Gilead. am very A.D.D. about what I want to read right now. am taking a crack at this and am enjoying it. I find history on random subjects fascinating.
  2. Metallica offers reward for missing fan
  3. "I Got You Babe" Sonny and Cher.
  4. One of my friends lives near Meridian Hill Park and has gone to the drum circle. Said it was very cool and quite the experience. Not the best neighborhood surrounding it...the trial for my Jury Duty service yesterday was for an attempted armed robbery that happened around the corner from Meridian Park. but... CENSORED
  5. are you done yet? How about you provide this elusive data and research i apparently so desperately need to know about instead of continuing to ever so politely telling me I have no clue? it would save me 6 months worth of time and effort and it would also give you the opportunity to respond to me again so you can get the last word in...although you did say there is no need to speak any further on this...hmmmm... thank you rwilson580 and speedracer. I'm glad I'm not the only one that interpreted what is at issue the way I did. back to the color correction on digital images i was working
  6. I hear Ben's Chili Bowl is a must. and the Love Cafe for cupcakes. both located within a few blocks of each other. if you have time, you could stop by and visit...ummm...me...only if you have a chance of course.
  7. just finished this: and am now reading this, it is ok, because I spent all of yesterday reading it during jury duty, I will finish it; otherwise, I probably would have put it down already. It has some sweet moments, but for the most part...YAWN. Too much time invested to bail on it and never pick it back up though. Here's to hoping it picks up and has more of the sweet moments:
  8. I think I've been pretty clear about it. Older movies can be transferred, if done properly will look fine, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are going to look or sound any better or phenomenal. just because you could doesn't mean you should. the band deemed no benefit from this transfer, so the artist has spoken. and i by chance agree with the artist in this matter. this is also about opinions, so ummm, thanks for letting me know i am 100% wrong and 100% false. time to go watch my analog tv with basic cable attached to it.
  9. my point is not resistance to new technology it is appropriate application of new technology.
  10. you don't get it. enjoy your new technology and all the glory it will clearly provide for everything.
  11. I tried to do a search to find the old thread to no avail. I'm pretty sure the sound was one of Wilco's sticking points on why the conversion would be futile...because of how the sound was originally recorded and there would be no gain from the conversion. I wish I could find the old thread. A rehash of the past is just that. I think I am cranky with the internet today.
  12. oh good grief, here we go again. film has grain, light passes through it, when transferred to a digital format, you see the grain, the flaws in the grain, the film, scratches, dust, you name it. digital is made up of 1s and 0s. digital will always be clear and pristine, but if you go from grain and dust flecks to 1s and 0s, the flaws show up that you wouldn't have seen in an earlier format. watch Caddyshack on DVD and get back to me on how much anything from film would benefit from a transfer to Blu ray.
  13. bah. Analogman never cut me any slack when I was a newbie.
  14. because starting new topics on topics already covered isn't new. it is redundant and posting like content in already existing threads is just the etiquette that tends to be observed on this discussion board. -- it appears speed racer and i posted at the same time,
  15. Have you watched any movies that have been transferred from a previous medium over to DVD needless to say Blu-Ray? Just because Blu-ray is the top of the line media format that doesn't mean something made prior to that format is going to look fantastic on the new magical medium. it's probably just me though...and i'm a prude these days. i'm also pretty sure rwilson580 is correct in his memory.
  16. this isn't helping me show my worthiness beyond having a great dog is it.
  17. kids also repeat people quite well and don't have sensors. -- the latest "The most serious possible charges are felonies and carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Alderden said they would be seeking restitution for the costs, though he didn't have an estimate. The cost for just the two military helicopters was about $14,500." Good.
  18. I think 'dark' is fine for childen's stuff, but this was just angry. filled with anger. no it wasn't terribly violent, although i am bothered by one monster ripping off the arm of another monster in the midst of a fight. there doesn't have to be all sorts of physical violence for something to still be violent, the whole verbal abuse thing. then again, i was expecting magical fantasical and sweet. it is interesting to me what is deemed acceptable and where lines are drawn in the sand. a movie can be filled with sexual innuendo and blatant vulgar sex jokes, but carry a PG-13 rating becaus
  19. 32 new planets "Astronomers hope someday to find signs of an Earth-mass planet in an Earth-like orbit -- circling a star at a distance that allows for the possibility that water might be liquid at the planet's surface."
  20. I saw it and thought it was ok. I found it to be very dark and angry and not a children's movie. My parents took me to wildly inappropriate movies as a child and I don't think I am better for it or need to get over it. I think there is a flaw in artistry that takes what is clearly a children's book, makes something extremely different from the book that is adult and artistic, and then markets it to be connected to the original inspiration. That is like saying wicked is ok for kids because it was inspired by the wizard of oz. I wouldn't take a 5 year old to see it. I would take Tweens and teens
  21. I thought you already owned a house...
