  1. This is the first year I didn't think anything of it being Sept. 11 and didn't feel upset or out of place. I only realized what day it was when I saw someone post something on Facebook. I call that healing and wonder at what point we find the mourning process complete. Yes it is different for everyone, but maybe the silence on the board means that healing process has found its way through the community for most and we don't feel the need to lament it anymore. [NOTE: I was next door to the whitehouse when everything happened and watched the pentagon burn while trying to figure out how to get ou
  2. several years ago, i think it was when Ray Charles died, i don't remember, but 2 celebrities died and i quipped 'wonder who's next...they always go in 3s' and was called Suzy Sunshine...told I was a morbid pessimist that was insensitive. i think people are too sensitive.
  3. hmmmmm...i am starting to think my love for teh wilco isn't nearly as over the top as initially thought or mocked about.
  4. my guy mocks me on a regular basis about teh wilco. he seems to be turning it into a sport.
  5. I still keep trying to picture in my head what he possibly could have been doing to alarm the folks in the neighborhood (aside from being an old white guy walking around the latin district). I imagine him walking around mumbling and spouting off random phrases and prose to people as they pass by. or talking to trees or fire hydrants or something.
  6. they haven't adjusted in the city proper. there is a row house in my neighborhood, tiny 2 bedroom sandwhiched in between numerous group houses, that is on the market for $875,000+...not even on a metro line...smaller than your house even...that was the going rate for houses in my neighborhood 2 years ago and even 5 years ago and continues to be the going rate...it just takes a month or two longer for things to sell, but they are still selling at that amount. we won't even talk about rent. i do automatic payment for my rent and am glad because it is such a painful amount of money...at least uti
  7. college park and vicinity is considered DC Metro area, so welcome to the 'hood. i live here, the bobbleheads live here, and nurfherder. it of course takes 45 minutes to get anywhere in this place even if you are only traveling a mile. my biggest bit of advice is to know what your commute would be and choose your housing location to minimize the commute. we have the 2nd worst traffic in the country, just after LA and it isn't improving anytime soon. going from college park to hanover is considered a reverse commute so that would make it easier. but beware of beach traffic in the summer and 295
  8. this might not be contemporary enough or about alcohol, but "Hits from the Bong" by that one group, they did "Insane in the Membrane" I am drawing a blank for anything else, although I am pretty sure there are some hairband songs all about boozing it up. Again though...not contemporary enough. you could probably do a keyword search in itunes and find stuff. its search drivers are pretty smart.
  9. pack it in pack it out. and yes, Gary aka Spawn's Dad...the dog is Maddie aka Madison aka Madeline.
  10. she actually didn't carry all that much...just her waterbowl and poo bags. kinda handy to make her have to deal with her own stuff.
  11. i tried using the search, but couldn't find anything, maybe A-man can help out...legend has it there was a thread that went on and on about this very topic, that the thread caused quite the bruhahah on the board and set the standard for comparison of a lot of threads to follow and has come up in conversation quite often. i can't seem to find it though.
  12. Guns N Roses "Don't Cry" and Metallica's "Unforgiven" were both masterpieces. more recent, if i recall correctly, Radiohead's Fake Plastic Trees is pretty great, if that's the one filmed in the grocery store.
  13. I'm really starting to like the ignore feature and am just now coming to appreciate the magic that it creates! -- now I am wishing there was something more than ignore on here. ah well.
  14. it is extremely difficult to get any form of a conviction in animal cruelty cases, have animal cruelty laws enforced, and as I had noted earlier, there isn't much of a precedent for what the sentencing terms are for the leaders of dog fighting rings. i have worked with animal shelters and rescue groups for over 10 years and spent time in New Orleans post Katrina helping with the animal rescue efforts. We worked with hundreds of newly rescued pitbulls a day that came through the temporary shelter. Pitbulls that were so damaged it was extremely obvious they weren't in that condition from the sto
  15. I wonder how many convicted felons out there easily get their old jobs back and are welcomed back into society after they've gotten out of prison.
  16. i think our culture needs to be a bit more cognizant of who our role models are. then again, this is the culture that idolizes brittany spears and reality tv so does it really matter that a star quarterback was a dog fighting ringleader...probably not. if someone is talented, they seem to get a free pass in society.
  17. thanks for the bump. Yeah, we checked flickr, my favorite go-to place for any photograph you could ever possibly need. This is the first time we have not been able to find something on flickr that we can use. We have found some great photos, but they are all too small to enlarge into an ad for the size we need (part of the ad campaign will be in the Washington, DC Metro system...maybe that will be enticement for someone to share, ). or they are too rustic looking. We've contacted the National Parking Association, our lead sponsor for the exhibition, but haven' heard back yet. It is odd that
  18. well, it would set a standard and precedent for future punishments of dog fighting ring leaders. there's a massive dog fighting ring in New Orleans that authorities have been working for years to break up and get a solid conviction of the mastermind behind it. with such a light sentence for Vick, the precedent is set so the future busts will have equally light sentences. i personally think that kind of behavior merits a much longer jail time than 18 months (part of which wasn't even at a prison). animal cruelty and abuse is a leading sign of future abuse and violence.
  19. i think he should have gotten at least 5 years. actually i think it should have been longer than that, but to be realistic i'll go with 5.
  20. Michael Vick Reinstated i think he should still be in jail.
