Never before heard song Wandering Man by Lesh (?) from unearthed 1966 tapes. Kinda cool. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gzsidpo3ox0n8iy/02%20Wandering%20Man%20(_)%20demo.mp3?dl=0

Three links discussing Gregg and Dickey's interest in playing together again. Seems Butch is the main obstacle. Unless Jaimoe has some unspoken grudge. Not interested, but what the hell. http://www.jambase.com/article/gregg-allman-wants-to-play-with-dickey-betts-again http://www.jambase.com/article/gregg-allman-discusses-potential-allman-brothers-reunion http://www.jambase.com/article/dickey-betts-says-hes-willing-to-play-with-gregg-allman-again

Big RxR is very underrated.

Yes, Dickey's playing really went downhill. And he got in a fight with Allen Woody, who reportedly was a big teddy bear, which lead to Woody and Warren leaving the band for Mule.

I appreciate Butch's openness in speaking his mind in interviews and elsewhere, unfortunately it often reveals how ignorant and full of himself he is. I don't think I've ever seen an interview with him where he doesn't mention living in France and reading Rosseau. Very little knowledge of music outside the Allmans, whom he of course considers the greatest band ever. Same stories about Duane over and over. Has Jaimoe ever said anything?

From August 2015: Dickey Betts has responded to a surprising reunion overture from erstwhile Allman Brothers Band partner Gregg Allman, a decade and a half after their acrimonious split. “I have no problem with Gregg, never have,” Betts said in a statement to Sarasota, Fla.’s Herald-Tribune. “Sure, it would be fun to play with him again. We’ll see where it goes.” To be clear, Allman’s overture doesn’t specify a public performance, this could be simply a private jam session. Besides, in order for any long-awaited onstage reunion to happen, Betts will have to end an apparent retirement from mu

Feeling like they're gonna bring Dickey back in the fold and Fare Thee Well this shit. Too bad, thought they went out on a high note. But after seeing the Dead cash in, can't say no to that $. And Greg has expressed being open to playing with Dickey again.

Pitchfork and Jesse Jarnow's review of Dead & Co in Fenway. Seems about right to me: http://pitchfork.com/thepitch/1233-coming-to-grips-with-dead-bro-john-mayer-and-the-improbable-live-rebirth-of-the-grateful-dead/

JRAD, but glad you had a nice time.

Found a free stream and watched parts of it. Thought it was pretty painful. Mayer's playing is ok, too bluesy at times, music doesn't really go anywhere interesting or new though, but overall the guitar playing is fine. My main gripe is that since Jerry died, the band has tilted too heavily toward Weir - his cheese and melodrama is unchecked. Now with Mayer it's like Bob & Bob Weir Jr. The cheese is amped up so high it's painful. The way both of them sing Jerry tunes if fucking brutal, particularly the big ballads, which Bob has no feel for. The subtlety is gone. No one can emote the way J

Guns N Roses reunited, and are playing pretty damn well too. Chris is a diva, but he's no Axl. Anything is possible.

Plenty of bands like the Stones, Allmans, or the Grateful Dead last summer at their farewell shows, can get over the animosity to cash in. Separate dressing rooms and handlers to negotiate things help.

An imagining of the classic Dead album that never was: http://doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/post/147291210917/summer-of-dead-one-old-score-we-interrupt-our Pretty good, but I think a bit short on Weir. I'd take the early solo albums, plus the live and unreleased stuff from the era and make 3 classic albums. The Summer of Dead series in that blog is worth checking out, this year as well as past years if you're not familiar.

The Wrigley shows were very fun. Some nice song choices, kinda short on the jams. Highlights were the encores - Space Oddity (a capella, debut), and I am the Walrus. Overall seems this tour has been kinda lackluster until the past 3 shows starting Friday night. Finally starting to stretch out and shake things up a bit. Taking my kids to see the Chula Vista show in 2 weeks. Should be a bit different perspective.

I would not be able to take anyone seriously who spends $30 on a Dead & Customers webcast.

Actually, pretty sure Keith will headline in the 2046: Last Man Standing edition of Oldchella. -

Guess I didn't anticipate this to be a recurring event, but it makes sense that they'll keep doing it until all the classic rockers are dead. Wilco to headline in 2046. -
Basseuse?

Responding to the last 2 comments: Oteil is one of my favorite bass players (bassists?). There's a great youtube of him playing the bass solo in Eyes from last fall, maybe a MSG show? Felt like I was listening to a 74 show. But in the recent Bonnaroo webcast, at times he's barely audible, not doing much. Really loved him in the Allmans and other bands I've seen him in, but think he's underutilized in Dead & Bro. Chimenti I've always found to be kind of an invisible man. Great support, can't recall any solos he's ever taken in any band. As for the tempos and JRAD, the jamband kids love

Yes, unless you're a big Mayer or Weir fan, I guess the attraction is the atmosphere/experience. I don't doubt there is some fun to be had and value there, not worth it to me though. For some people, it is kind of addicting, and for others, they never experienced the real thing. A little whiff of transcendence is better than nothing at all.

I'm all for artists saying whatever the hell they want, but these statements are divisive, out of touch, and weird. Used to say let the music speak for itself, that it could do more to unify us than any statement. But been listening to the Bonnaroo show, not sure that's the case. Bobby and Mayer singing Jerry tunes is pretty brutal. Bobby's sing-speak is Shatner-esque. The playing is much more melodramatic (cheesy). And Mayer is a one trick pony on the guitar, blues licks all over the Other One. Some good moments here and there, but man, I could brutally trash these guys. It's not worth the ti
