Right, hopeful he'll put those new ones out soon...

Seems that the tracks from Fallen Angels were recorded during the previous sessions for Shadows, and Dylan's recent sessions at Capitol were of new compositions. No word on when/if those will be released. (Dylan’s most recent Capitol sessions with Schmitt in early 2016 were to record a set of mostly original contemporary songs, according to different, always reliable sources close to the project. However, those newer tracks remain unreleased for now.) http://stephenkpeeples.com/news-and-reviews/bob-dylan-fallen-angels-tracks-from-same-sessions-as-shadows-in-the-night/#.VwvxNfkrLZ6

Wasn't directed at anyone. Don't take it personally. You have the best opinions of anyone on this board. Lighten up Francis.
-
Also, I've been polite and respectful, and never called anyone's opinion silly. You're really distorting things. Please ignore me. Message boards are not "safe spaces."
-
I will direct your attention to the Black Crowes thread where you indicated other people's opinions were silly, in not so many words. Issues.

The studio cut of El Paso we've all been dying to hear...

Hope Weir finishes up his "Cowboy" album first. Seems like there are a lot of projects he, and the other members, never get around to finishing

Sugar Baby, also on Love and Theft, is also a classic. I could argue that there are several other good to great songs on that and subsequent album, but certainly Mississippi and Sugar Baby stand with his best.

"Much-lauded talents as a vocalist."? I love Dylan, love what his voice used to be. The croak it has become may be interesting and suit these songs well, but no one is lauding it. I'll give it a listen, and it will drift away with Shadows of the Night.

Dude, I don't know what to tell you. Just kind of a lighthearted discussion, and you seem really upset. Feel like I'm getting dragged into some kind of bigger issue you have. I'd suggest you just ignore me in the future if it's that upsetting to you.

Agree with the trainwrecks angle. Read an interview with Jerry where he discussed the music being better when they weren't synching up, it was more of a battle. Wasn't as good when it was effortless. The conflict made it interesting.

Well, I think it's silly. Sorry if you disagree, not meant to be a personal attack, don't take it that way. I'm sure there are plenty of opinions people hold about all sorts of things you find to be silly too. Have you heard what some people think about this guy called Jesus? Or Donald Trump?

To say it was all about Jerry is of course simplistic. And of course the other guys were all great, and there was a gestalt thing to the band. But to deny that Garcia was the most important is also silly. And if any other band member had been replaced by another quality musician, still a great band worth following. If Garcia wasn't there, who gives a shit? I mean, some people do like Ratdog, but most people do not. Some great Phil lineups depending on who he's playing with, so it's not just about Phil. The drummers, cmon. But for all these lineups, the main attractions is the Garcia/Hunter s

I would think the main factor as to whether they were on or not was Garcia. If he was feeling it, or had his buzz just right, the others were likely inspired and stepped it up. I think he had as profound an impact on the band members as he did the audience.

War on Drugs have a real heavy Dylan in the 80's sound from what I've heard. Heavy Springsteen influence too. I'm not a big fan, but liked the cover probably the most of those released. The others didn't leave much of an impression on me. Malkamus's China>Rider is supposed to be pretty wicked. Looking forward to that, and some of the more experimental, jamming tracks. -
Agree on Playin'. The lyrics are kind of corny. Love the Main Ten theme and the jamming potential though.

Listening to the Phil show from last night. Pretty smoking, not too much noodling or flexing. Anyone pay to stream the video, and how was it? Can you pause it or watch it later after the show is over? https://archive.org/details/PhilLeshAndFriends2016-03-17

I'd consider Jerry's last batch to be Days, Liberty, Lazy River, and So Many Roads. Love them all, but Days is the only one that is unique or innovative, pushing for something new. Hypnotic, dramatic, dynamic, mysterious, but if you weren't captivated by it, I'm sure it would sound like a drag, like many other Dead tunes. But if you were, it was transcendent.

Looks like they devote a significant amount of it to the weird, experimental stuff, which is cool by me, and rare on a tribute album. Not just gonna be a bunch of straightforward covers, though there are probably a few of those too.

Some interesting track details and thoughtful, inspiring tributes in the booklet. Compilation looks much more compelling than I initially expected. -
How did Mumford and Sons sneak into that party? Oh well, looks like some interesting choices. Glad it's not dominated by Avett Brothers type artists.

I know the sound was shit on one of those early 80's shows. Think that was the one. I'll confirm when I get a sec.

I guess it would be up to Rhino to pay Betty, although I'd imagine that if any of the band members knew how to use a telephone they could make it happen. I think an argument could be made that Betty is owed something, although she was paid for her services when an employee of the band, and they bought the tapes from someone else. So I guess you'd be paying her for the time she kept the tapes in storage, and for using her name to market the release?

Made it up to 1987 so far in the 30 Trips set. Everyone knows the 9/18/87 MSG show, for good reason. Maybe the best show of the Brent era, or at least the second set? Even the Watchtower is exciting, and the Heaven's Door is engaging. Of course the Dew. Gotta be up there with the Warlocks and Branford shows. For someone who poo-poos Brent, this stuff is pretty good.
