  1. 3 nights in a row of Phish is a lot, even if just watching from home. Webcasts can usually be found on youtube shortly after they air too. I'll probably watch Saturday night. Listen to some of the others. That Merriwether Saturday show was hot. And a lot of great stuff at the Philly shows last week too.
  2. Halloween 2014 song. Those songs are fun live.
  3. The Weir interview was nice, covered a lot of the same ground regarding his family that the documentary did. Looking forward to the cowboy album. Bobby got deep with that Cassidy quote at the end. Whoa!
  4. Not sure if this has been posted already, but a youtube account has been putting up a bunch of nice unreleased stuff. Including much improved audio of Moonlight Mile, One Kind Favor, Seasons of My Heart. Good stuff: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQeIHKUCbE3__Z6QQxztVVQ
  5. Right, cause we're such drama queens. Trey said in Bittersweet Motel that he valued emotion/feel over precision. That was 1998. For some reason, you're still hanging around bitching about it. Face > palm.
  6. I gave a pretty clear explanation of why I like this version of Phish, with the "agree to disagree" caveat that I understand it may not appeal to everyone. Either you can't read, or you're so self-absorbed you replied that I, and others like me, are fooling ourselves. So, you basically called us fools. I've seen this behavior from you in other threads, and am pretty confident in my intellectual ability relative to yours, let alone musical knowledge and taste. So maybe you should just stop posting for a while. In other words, pound sand troll.
  7. Cali Stars gets the Allman's dual guitar treatment at the end there. Nels and Warren really seem to enjoy playing together. Clocking in at 7 minutes, wow. Next time bring Warren out for Handshake Drugs or a better jamming tune. But I can't complain, much.
  8. The phish shows I've seen since 2009 have been as good as any of their shows I've seen since 1998, and as consistently good as they've been since 1995. The band has changed a lot over the years so I can understand they may not appeal to some people anymore. These days, I enjoy their unique sound, huge catalog of songs, and unmatched energy. The lengthy jams, technical precision, and spontaneity have lessened but are still there. The last show I saw was Saturday in L.A. It was a party crowd, so the band matched the mood. It did feature a YEM encore with some mind-boggling interplay between T
  9. That run of albums from Anthem of the Sun > Europe 72 holds up pretty well against any other bands string of albums. A few of the 7 albums released were live albums, so the Dead don't seem to get as much credit. But like we said, a lot of songs made their debuts on those albums, and the Dead were not a studio band, so the normal rules don't really apply. I guess Aoxomoxoa is the one weak spot, but it has some great tunes even if it didn't come across in the recording.
  10. Also add Wharf Rat to the group that could've been on the never recorded album. It was released on Skullfuck along with Bertha.
  11. Those songs ended up on Europe 72, Ace, and Jerry's solo albums. There really is enough excellent original material from those sources that two great albums would've been possible.
  12. Well played. That accounts for the top 5, right?
  13. Speak for yourself. It wasn't instructive to me, and it seems other "readers." You actually took the time to count the paragraphs. Can I get a word count?
  14. The review itself is fine, but he spends half the article talking about himself and topics other than the music on the album. Seems more appropriate for a blog post.
  15. I'm a dad and I'm in the top 1% of rocking my face off. Gotta rock even harder now that I have kids. Fuck yeah dad rock! Eat shit childless rockers!
  16. Hope this new record means they'll be doing a butt-load of touring for the foreseeable future. Maybe even come back to San Diego sometime in the next few years.
  17. Nels Cline Strikes Back Return of the Tweedi The Kotche Awakens The Jorgensen Menace Can't remember the other prequels.
  18. Lemeiuex had me at one of the best Wharf Rats ever. Top 5 tune for me, so worth a listen. But the setlist is kinda meh. Let's not act like Lazy Lightning is a great set 2 opener just because it's rare in that spot.
  19. My quick take: The best Wilco album since The Whole Love. Great stuff.
  20. Set and setting. It's the moments you shared with Smokestack Jack that made you love the album. In that context you could've substituted any album and fallen in love with it. My first listens were likely in my bedroom, sober. Put it away and rarely listened to it since. With the Dead, and music in general, everyone has a few oddball albums/shows they fall in love with because they provide the soundtrack to a significant life experience. Maybe that helps you connect with the music and identify the hidden genius. I don't doubt that there is greatness in this album, but you gotta dig pretty deep.
  21. Three well played roots rockers but muddy sounding tunes does not a great psychedelic double live album make. At least not for my 15 year old self when purchasing it. I didn't know what to make of it and it soured my opinion of all the songs on it to the point that I'm still trying to decondition myself. Infrared Roses is a better album. I said it.
  22. Just imagine what Trey could do to Handshake Drugs and Spiders...
