  1. Road Trips: Vol 2, Number 3: June 1974: Wall of Sound I wasn't aware that 6/18/74 had been released as part of this compilation. Seems kind of strange they chopped the show up and only released one disc. Not sure I've listened to the other show on this comp, 6/16, but 6/18 makes a lot of best of lists, probably worth having the whole thing.
  2. $12.98 is a good price for this, and cool that the cover is in the style of the first few Dick's Picks/tape boxes.
  3. Yeah, that's a doozy. The Jam contains teases of Bid You Goodnight, and Darkness, Darkness by the Younglboods. Right now I'm hearing a tease of a familiar lick that shows up in many Dark Stars. Probably lots of other stuff in there too, band is going off. Also, great early version of Attics, among many other heady nugs in this show.
  4. I'll have to give that one a listen. Looks nice. Although Women is a Weir tune I typically skip. Not sure why they needed Women and Iko?
  5. Tweedy covering Mississippi by Dylan would be a rock n roll cream dream.
  6. Early Roman Kings and Scarlet Town ain't too shabby either.
  7. Yes, that track is on the box set. The whole show is fantastic, excellent recording of the band at their peak. I think it all fits on one disc. It's out there for free, but certainly worth the cost of a cd.
  8. A real purdy cover of Attics of My Life by William Tyler: http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2016/03/09/william-tyler-attics-of-my-life-avant-ghetto-wfmu-pledge-drive/
  9. Outstanding set list. Agree on early Touch. And don't think I've heard a version better than the studio cut. Not many other Dead tracks that can be said regarding.
  10. Would be fun to see Bob and Mavis in San Diego this summer, small place, but $165 + for tix is ludicrous. I suppose it's cheaper than a trip to see the artifacts in Tulsa, though.
  11. Agreed. Isn't this variation in quality pretty typical for the Dylan Album cycle since around 1970?
  12. I'm not sure why anyone would make that assumption. He's been releasing an album of original material every 3 - 6 years for a long time. Tempest was 2012. I think he's just interested in doing these standards. Hopefully his interest will change, but I'd wait a few more years before assuming the well has dried up.
  13. The cover version is cool. There were a few covers soundchecked that I wasn't aware of, like A Day in the Life. Pretty rough, but cool to hear Jerry singing part of it.
  14. I'm no audiophile, but 8/6/71 is a good example of the audience tapes being superior to the released sbd. The crowd really adds to the energy, it's palpable. As for Row Jimmy, it's all about the space between the notes. Sometimes too much, other times not enough, but when it's right it's gravy.
  15. Skip drums and space. Sunrise. Many Brent tunes. Various Bob tunes: Easy Answers, Rooster, Lazy Lightning, Let it Grow (though not the prelude/intro, or jam after the song if possible) come to mind. Looks Like Rain, unless it's raining.
  16. Found it strange the NYT piece made no mention of the Grateful Dead archive, but discussed possible future archives for Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen.
  17. Yeah, I think Brent ruined Cassidy. Stranger is good though.
  18. The Grateful Dead donated everything to their archive, but would anyone have paid? While I view the Grateful Dead as incredibly important culturally, musically, and spiritually, mainstream academia does not. Dylan is taken more seriously. Wonder if it took that amount of $ because it is Tulsa? Nice to be by Woody's stuff and all, but it will just be collecting dust. Not a big fan of NYC, but it should be there.
  19. That corkain in the 80's must've been pretty sweet. I don't think it's worn off yet.
  20. I could do without Tons of Steel. We Can Run is another stinker. From Brent, I'll take Easy to Love You, Little Light, Blow Away, Mr. Fantasy, and that's about it.
  21. 8/12/84. Pretty nice setlist overall, even the Bobby cover tunes. Great set 2. Fierce St. of Circumstance. Nice outro jam in UJB, stretching it to 15 minutes or so, then Playin>UJB reprise, and a ferocious Dew to cap it off. One stinker in the set is Don't Need Love. What the hell is that? It's like a bad Hall and Oates tune. I could imagine it being used in an 80's rom-com montage. Thumbs down Brent.
  22. Not sure a book is necessary, but thanks for upping this topic. This show is mind blowing. Maybe not the best ever, but it deserves it's seat at the table. Let's stop saying it's overrated. It is appropriately rated as one of the greatest creations in the history of mankind.
  23. Most post-touch heads agree! I'm also starting to think 77> 74.
