  1. How was the fest and where did you stay? Wondering on pros and cons of staying in Mtn Village, but seems like staying in town of Telluride is probably too expensive, and not interested in camping.
  2. There is a secret back road into Alpine, but I'll never tell. Probably doesn't work for most destinations tho. Somewhat related, I still don't like Dead & Co., partially because of Mayer. But I watched most of a recent show he did with JRAD and it/he was fantastic. They brought out the best of him, and kept his negative tendencies (singing, generic blues playing) in check. Anyway, there are worse ways to spend a weekend than with 40,000 hippies at Alpine Valley.
  3. The only people I've ever met who did not get into bluegrass because of Jerry are bluegrass musicians.
  4. Pretty disappointed in Bear's book really. Not much in it I hadn't heard before, seemed to just skim the surface. I suppose that's a consequence of being both notorious and reclusive, but what Greenfield came up with didn't warrant a book. Good writer tho I suppose.
  5. Barlow's autobiography, written with Robert Greenfield, came out last week. It starts out strong, well written, and has received good reviews.
  6. Seems like an old fashioned no brainer. You get two versions of Money Money on this doozy.
  7. And here you go: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/premieres/hear-grateful-deads-epic-truckin-from-new-seventies-box-w521311
  8. Nice they'll be releasing the entire shows as a box set, along with that previously linked best of compilation.
  9. 5/19/74 has not yet been released? One of my faves, it's due for sure.
  10. Very cool. Has everyone heard Greg Davis's Grateful Dead mixes? Mixed for the hallucinations: https://www.mixcloud.com/greg-davis7/grateful-dead-mix-volume-1-by-gd/ https://www.mixcloud.com/greg-davis7/grateful-dead-mix-volume-2-by-gd/
  11. Pretty funny tweet and pic of Gordon with Tweedy. I'm not sure which is the before/after tho: https://twitter.com/mike_gordon/status/1003094699262009344
  12. Uh, yeah, looks like I'm seeing Neil Young in Chicago this summer, which is nice.
  13. Sounded good to me. There are some videos up on youtube.
  14. The stuff in the 80's when he was trying to be Huey Lewis was a low point. Been listening to his Live in Austin album this week. Real strong. The doc is great and worth watching. Have to say that Tweedy does Give Back the Key to My Heart Better. Doug's voice is not always my favorite. I think his influence on Dylan is understated, going up through some of Dylan's recent albums with the Tex Mex sound with Hidalgo on accordion.
  15. Both are drug bands. Main guys both like heroin. That's gonna result in some crossover.
  16. It's a country-rock guitar clinic. Tossing out every lick. China>Rider was never the same after it returned in 77. Sad.
  17. A wall of sound show, Egypt, an acid test. Time machine is gonna need to make multiple stops.
  18. They sang the first verse. Soldier Field 92 was instrumental only Dark Star.
  19. Sounds good, but not as good as being 3rd row right in front of Jerry for the show. YAHOO!!!!! Actually, sound even sucked from there that night, but that didn't stop it from being an amazing show.
  20. You can complain about whatever no matter how contradictory those things are. And there will always be another Deadhead to tell you how wrong you are. Part of the fun of being a Deadhead.
  21. I don't think you can complain about it being sloppy AND repeating too many songs. Are you saying you'd like more unrehearsed train wrecks? Anywho, you can listen to last night's show here. Having trouble hearing Phil's bass very well: https://www.jambase.com/article/full-show-audio-larry-campbell-teresa-williams-join-bob-weir-phil-lesh-boston
  22. Really enjoyed the Alligator from last night, in more of a bluegrass style with Larry on mando. Nice tribute to Pig on the 45th anni of his passing, I believe. Also caught the end of set 2, and the Rosemary part was real nice. The Baby Blue encore was a trainwreck, hate the way Bob does that song. Someone needs to tell him to stop. Not good.
  23. Furthur did 3 shows at Radio City in 2011. Speaking of, guessing Chicago may get a sit in from John K at the upcoming duo shows. No rumors I've heard, but if I had to wager. Some people would be happy/unhappy if that were to come true.
  24. Yes, saw Donna with Zero about 12 years ago and she was fine. Just think without Bobby you're pretty much out of lead singers.
  25. Who are they gonna get to sing? Mickey and Donna?
