  1. Dylan played a snippet of Something live as a tribute to Harrison. Pretty sure there are youtubes of it out there. Something is also not a Travelling Wilburys song, in case anyone thought I was confused about that. Before forming the Travelling Wilburys, George Harrison was in a band called the Beatles. Paul McCartney from Wings was also in that band. They rocked.
  2. Wilbury love: https://youtu.be/JbXcCqSjDPU
  3. Trey from Phish sat in with TTB at the last Beacon show for Delta Lady and Mtn. Jam. Trey had been teasing Mtn Jam all summer with Phish, so nice to see it fully realized. Sadly, Trey was a bit too deferential to Derek, as he is sometimes when he sits in with others. Don't think he really ever took off, was a bit too restrained. Some nice moments. The bass player tore it up though on the bass solo, nice nod to Berry Oakley. Delta Lady was fun with the horns. I think Trey plays that with his solo band, so he seemed pretty comfortable with the tune. https://www.jambase.com/article/tedeschi-tr
  4. Gregg's last album is worth a listen. Maybe a bit too jamband sounding with the percussion, over produced. But some pretty deep cuts too relevant to the end of his life.
  5. I saw Nels play with the Firm's bassist, and drummer Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction in a band called Banyan. All instrumental and improv. Pretty wicked. Or maybe it was Mike Watt. Seen em both with Banyan. It's a rotating cast of musicians. Either way, Firm guy was good. Think they played Machine Gun. Hazy memories.
  6. This thread has already pretty much nailed it. Would just add a recent anecdote from Derek Trucks. He played a show with Joe early in his career when Derek was still a teenage guitar prodigy. pre-Allmans. Joe asked Derek's dad backstage to get him a Coke. Derek's dad was irate, pulled him aside and said "don't be like that guy!" It's great music for people that don't know anything about music, and a sad commentary on the state of blues today.
  7. I wonder who Dylan lifted that quote from.
  8. I set you up for that one. Saw the Shandling video too. Great stuff. Need more high celebrities hanging out videos.
  9. Who among us hasn't written a hit song about Ike Turner hitting on our wife?
  10. I enjoyed this spontaneous cover. Seems appropriate that it went into Not Fade Away. https://youtu.be/7Hc15jne7IM Also, Tom Petty at Winterland 12/30/78, the night before the Dead closed the place out: https://youtu.be/7Hc15jne7IM Surrender is such a great tune. Weird it didn't get an official release for almost 25 years.
  11. Nice to hear Hood's perspective as a musician and fan. Allmans were a better Southern Rock Band. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, tho written by a Canadian, is a better song about the South than Southern Accents, a great song too. Love Johnny Cash's version as well.
  12. No FOMO here, too busy catching up on stuff that happened before I was born.
  13. He addressed his fascination with that region in a recent interview, I think in Uncut.
  14. Domino (Time will Tell), is such a great song.
  15. A bit more, but a bit too Springsteen and Dylan in 80's sounding for me. I'm very particular and don't waste my time listening to much new music as it generally dissapoints. If people are still taking about em in 5 years, I'll check em out.
  16. I gave him a listen. All his tunes seemed to be at the same mid-tempo. Couldn't get into it. I know he plays with a bunch of other musicians I dig, but not my thing.
  17. New HGM album out today, Hallelujah Anyhow. What I've heard sounds good so far. Very positive reviews. Prolific guy. Great band.
  18. Seems a bit overpriced - $180. But hard to pass up. I think I'll get it, but seems like I'll be devoting every Christmas for the foreseeable future to getting whatever Dylan puts out at the time.
  19. Wilco have been on a hiatus from San Diego shows since January 2012, so 2018 will be pretty much like any other year. Super sad.
  20. Mavis debuted one of the new songs this weekend at San Diego Blues Fest. It had some very Tweedy-esque lyrics about being worried about everything, but then things turn out cool. Didn't get the name of the tune, but it and the show were great.
  21. Josh Ritter track featuring Bob on a few verses: http://www.rollingstone.com/country/news/hear-josh-ritter-bob-weirs-duet-when-will-i-be-changed-w501728
  22. Happy 8/27. 45th anni of a contender for best all time. One of the many concerts I'll time travel back to some day.
  23. Acoustic demo of Powderfinger. Full band electric probably better, but interesting. An enigmatic song that sounds as relevant as ever. Too bad Skynyrd never got around to recording it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTV6QB3btQs
  24. OK, I'll bite. Taking Europe 72, solo albums, and live albums of the era. But I don't think any of these are better than the originals. Bertha Greatest Story Ever Told Sugaree Cassidy Mr. Charlie Playing In The Band The Wheel Wharf Rat Not Fade Away Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad Deal Mexicali Blues Loser Me And My Uncle Big Boss Man Bird Song Me And Bobby McGee To Lay Me Down Looks Like Rain Katie Mae Cumberland Blues He's Gone Jack Straw Brown Eyed Women Black Throated Wind Ramble On Rose Chinatown Shuffle Tennessee Jed One More Saturday Night And a live album of what's left: Chi
  25. Between Europe 72, Skullfuck, and the various solo albums from that era, there's enough material for at least 3 classic albums. But all those albums are already classic in my book, even if they aren't Grateful Dead studio albums. Two Souls in Communion never did much for me. Maybe if they had polished it up, let Garcia sing it. Sorry Pig.
