Expected to be outraged, but the list is within the realms of acceptable Deadhead discourse and judgement. They got some pretty good writers and Heads to put it together.

There is a youtube of Jerry laughing for 20 seconds. I converted that into a ringtone using some program, then uploaded to my phone. Was kind of a pain in the ass, then my phone deleted it. Anyway, here is a link to it if you can figure out how to upload: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xffqfjah7f6vfp9/20%20Seconds%20of%20Jerry%20Garcia%20Laughing.m4r?dl=0 Hope that link still works.

The Hyden - Gorman interview is pretty solid: https://www.jambase.com/article/steve-gorman-discusses-rise-fall-black-crowes-celebration-rock-podcast

Likely. Howard knows how to stir some shit up. Both brothers are such insufferable pricks.

Agree that the RnR HoF is laughable, and they'll be letting everybody in to keep the business and the big show each year going. I enjoy some derivative music. But for me there are bands that are obviously derivative and say nothing and do nothing that hasn't been done before (Ryan Adams). And there are bands that are able to assimilate their influences and channel them through their own unique voice (Wilco). Your opinion may differ. I was pretty blown away the one time I saw the Crowes live. Just not sure they should be honored in the same place as the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Dylan, etc

A lot of ridiculous things in that interview, but the idea that the Black Crowes would be inducted in the RnR Hall of Fame is the most laughable. I could see it happening as the list of great bands gets thinner. They were a decent derivative Southern rock band, that history will record as having no impact on music.

Podcast where MC Taylor, main guy in Hiss Golden Messenger, discusses the importance of Europe 72. This guy gets it, you can hear the influence in his music, blended in with other inspirations and his own voice, so it never gets derivative (like say Ryan Adams). Good stuff: http://www.fidelityhigh.com/hiss-golden-messenger-podcast/

If you can make it through more than 5 seconds of John Mayer singing Terrapin Station, there is something wrong with you. Sorry.

Spring 94 - first night at Rosemont saw Jerry do a knee bend during Standing on the Moon and just about lost my mind. Summer 95 - second to last show at Soldier Field. Jerry raised his fist above his head during "even Mona Lisa must've had the highway blues..." and the entire stadium went bananas. You could feel the energy. For just a second there, he came back to life. One of my greatest concert going experiences, without doubt.

They were making a Dark Star & Terrapin comparison, not sure it was discussed as spiritual. I do think Terrapin replaced Dark Star as the "big song" of the last 15 years or so. Not much wiggle room in Terrapin, though the unfolding jam at the end allows for some jamming even as it stays close to the theme. Preferring Dark Star or Terrapin is likely a pretty good litmus test for what type of Deadhead someone is.

Terrapin and Estimated were the most important songs that year - both introduced and played the most frequently. And both being opposing sides of the psychedelic coin. Terrapin being the inspiration, transcendence, striving for utopia, and Estimated being delusion and darkness. Equinox, a forgotten Lesh opus of the era, bridges the two worlds lyrically with lyrics like "Every man is a prophet/at the mercy of a fool." That's a real quick summary from one reading that probably doesn't do it justice.

Wasn't too excited about the Cornell book, but the first few pages are decent enough. Holds some promise.

Re: Get Shown the Light box: The beginning and closing essays in the booklet are excellent, providing some great context for where the band were at in that point in time. They also make some great statements on art, humanity, psychedelics. Really dug the discussion on Terrapin, Estimated, and Equinox - will have to give that tune another listen. But the essays on the individual shows are a joke. Seems they were pieced together from internet message boards with Heads using various superlatives to describe every song as the best version ever. I guess they were trying to give a nod to the fans,

HSF was the first thing I listened to as well. Then had to go to set 2 at the Garden, one of my early favorites. A perfect early version of Terrapin. But that Friend of the Devil always got me, as much as I prefer the faster versions. With the excellent sound and slower tempo, the band interplay shines. Even the between song tunings stand out. It really makes you feel like you're there in the dark, listening to the band noodle about, as the tension builds. Downside is the packaging is bulky, excessive. Don't know if these CD cases will stand the test of time. Looks cool, so my kids really l

I guess if you want your friends and family to witness your death like that, sweet party bro. I get the impulse to play devil's advocate. Who fucking knows. -

That's cool, but this is the ultimate case of the boy who cried wolf. Great way to go out and all, but I'm guessing he would've preferred to live longer, and surely his friends and family would've preferred that too. Just crazy irony, that his lifelong hi-jinks came back to bite him. -

That clip was better the first time I posted it. Also am retracting my statement about being interested in watching his death. Don't need to see the grief of his friends in that moment. Maybe a glorious way for him to go out, but that is some heavy shit those people are going through. -

There has got to be video out there of his departure, surprised it hasn't surfaced yet. I guess I'd watch. I think the Colonel wouldn't mind. John Stirratt tweeted that at a party once he witnessed the Col. correctly guess the birthdays of two people, a trick he was renowned for. The dude was tapped into something and on another level.
