i was actually gonna post some classical music blasphemy but i thought that i would be the only one here that really enjoys classical music enough to get it. -
Bob Dylan - "Self Portrait" (which is a great record and doesn't deserve any of the shit it gets) 2. Alberta #1 (in 6/8 time) 24. Alberta #2 (same thing in 4/4 time)

i saw him over a year ago in la, got there early and met and hung out with jonathan and tommy for a little bit. what a great guy and what a great show. the next day i was eating at a chipotle in santa barbara, and they have burrito wrappers with musicians' names written all over them, and jonathan richman was written on there so i was really excited. then i walk out of chipotle, and walking down the sidewalk who do i see but jonathan richman and tommy larkins. i stopped and we chatted and they asked for a good place to have a burrito. very surreal. i completely forgot the new album was out tod

most, if not all, of the original music i've heard posted by vc members has been flat-out awful. nothing personal. -

i'd rather watch muted rihanna music videos than anything that will ever be on pitchfork.tv edit: same goes for unmuted rihanna music videos. mariah carey videos too. especially that new one. -

randy newman is a far better songwriter than anyone on earth except for leonard cohen and bob dylan. also, i can't think of enough hyperbole to truthfully describe the holiness of leonard cohen and his art, so i won't try. -

my bad. third eye blind's first album is one of the best albums of the 90's, and their second and third are excellent as well. -

hillary clinton is a lying, hypocritical, untrustworthy sleazeball. just throwing that out there. -

you bet it is. i've probably listened to 'i'm like a bird' and 'turn off the light' more than any two songs by any other artist, ever. -

i enjoy the first two nelly furtado albums more than 100% of the hipster indie pap championed by pitchforkmedia, and my disappointment with her third album transformation to kirkland signature skanky mtv chick was as great or greater than any folk purist's disappointment with dylan in '65. -

Scarlett Johansson "Anywhere I Lay My Head"
mkush001 replied to RainDogToo's topic in Someone Else's Song
word is some songs leaked today and have all been removed by the label. i found the title song on a blog here. i was thinking about buying this because i am a die hard tom waits fan with a mild crush on scarlett johansson, but i found this cover of 'anywhere i lay my head' pretty awful. i know expecting her to live up to the original even a little bit is way too much to ask, but there's not even a hint of the emotional depths found in tom's original. oh well, she's still a cutie. -
i read quite a bit of good writing on the AACM in this book which is full of great ideas about African American musicians and their art, but nothing as specific as this new book on the AACM. looks really interesting and i'll have to check it out.

make sure it's a hammered dulcimer, a dulcimer is a completely different instrument. and much easier to find.

The Waco and Felice Brothers and Justin Townes Earle
mkush001 replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
do the felice bros offend anybody else with their complete lack of originality? i'm sure they'd make a great dylan/band tribute act, but i mean reaaalllyy?? reaallyy??? -
geez, they announced this so long ago i thought they'd given up. this should be real neat.

I guess Al Gore can finally take the gun from Charlton's cold, dead hands now. Kidding aside, I really liked Charlton in Wayne's World 2. Seriously, though.
