mkush001 replied to trayanastasio's topic in Someone Else's Song
wow, that's powerful. scarlett and obama are both babes. i heard scarlett johansson met jeff tweedy through barack obama and she's now recording an album of jeff tweedy covers after her tom waits cover album* *this may have been a daydream -
wow, i had no idea there were availability problems with these albums after they'd been remastered once. when did this happen? what a crime. some of the best art ever created.

well son of a bitch, lets hope they're not the same crappy warner bros cds that can get somehow scratched on top of the cd even though you take extra special care of your cds and then it f-ing skips in the middle of cypress avenue and then you get another copy but then your copy of 'into the music' starts skipping on troubadours cause of the same god damn thing, and then hey what do you know, astral weeks starts skipping again so we gotta buy another copy of that too, son of a bitch. let's hope they're not like that again. i've had bad experiences. ps, i dare them to try and slip some bonus

leonard cohen is my favorite poet/singer/songwriter/novelist/person of all time, and a few years ago my dad and i (my dad grew up worshipping leonard cohen, and got me into him when i was young) went to the premiere of the movie 'I'm Your Man' in los angeles, and leonard was there to speak, along with martha wainwright and a few of leonard's old backup singers performing. there was a giant screen set up on the stage to show the movie, and nobody wanted to sit within 10 rows of it because they'd have to crane their necks to see, so right before leonard came up on stage to speak i ran up to firs

na, my ear for stravinsky is just that good. full disclosure: i think i read it in learning how to die
-
if you would like an appropriate anecdote: i believe wilco sampled, cut up, and heavily distorted a clip of stravinsky for the transition from ashes of american flags to heavy metal drummer. so there's a connection there, see.

nilsson sings newman is one of my favorite albums of all time and no one seems to give two shits about it, but talking about it would probably lead me to praising randy newman more than would be desired on a harry nilsson thread. but yeah, what a voice. and everyone should buy that album.

i've always thought jason bateman from arrested development looks like jeff. if you watch the shows you can notice similar facial movements and speech habits too. maybe i'm the only one. everyone should watch arrested development anyways. greatest show ever. http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.co.../anchorpreg.jpg

both fantastic books, especially dharma bums. i like to recommend maggie cassidy to everyone who likes kerouac because it seems to be forgotten by most and it is probably my favorite kerouac book, and i've read them all. the most perfect descriptions of high school crushes you'll ever read.

i'm pretty sure we've agreed about this before llynnowens, maybe someday other vcer's will catch on. word is there's two whole clem albums ready to be released but the band is through. and according to this http://www.current.tv/pods/fix/PD06274 eef's got another solo album coming out soon too. when i saw him live he played a couple of incredible new songs that are going to be on his next album, but are on this soundtrack also. you can hear a few at his free daytrotter session here http://www.daytrotter.com/daytrotterSessio...gs-eef-barzelay which is really really great. especially 'the girls

http://www.rocketsciencemovie.com/ Thought I'd start a thread in case anyone else heard about it. Looks like a great little indie film, comes out August 10, and the soundtrack is by Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, one of the greatest and most under-appreciated songwriters of our time. The soundtrack came out this week, and is really really fantastic, with some full new Eef songs as well as some beautiful short sketches that should be perfect for a quirky indie film. I was lucky enough to meet him before seeing him play the Largo in LA a little over a year ago while he was in town working on the
