  1. Interesting teaser for the next episode. So Trinity will learn Dexter's true identity and show up at the station. Hmmm.

How many episodes are left in this season? Can't be more than three or four, right?

They mentioned how many last night, i think it's 2 or 3. There's a lot that's going to go down in the last episodes! The most intense seen in the teaser for me was when Deb shouted no! and we heard a gun go off. Do you think anything will come of the kid seeing Dexter leave? It really seems like he's getting too comfortable with his killings and lazy with making sure it's safe.

  2. I love beer as much as anyone, but bringing your own "beer to a place where beer is being provided for free..." is kinda of a dick thing to do. Do you bring your own food to a dinner party? The host is nice enough to spend his or her money on beer, be it swill or whatnot you should accept it. If you don't like it, don't drink it.

I think there is a non-dick way to do this though. I mean, if someone is providing a keg of bud light are your options really only to A: show up and drink, B: show up and not drink, or C: not show up? No. You can show up and not make a scene of it, maybe even ask for a keg cup, and calmly sip your delicious dogfish head sah'tea or rogue, or lagunitas or whichever you'd like. Now, if you happen to bring the particular glass that is the "proper" glass for said brew, you're most likely pushing things. I've had parties where I provide cheap kegs and I do so to allow people to drink or play drinking games, but I've never had a problem with them drinking the good stuff.

  3. That's the hallmark of good writing... You're supposed to hate her. Isn't it amazing that we can buy into a story so much as to despise a good person because they stand in the way of our protagonist who is a complete psycho?

I think they might be doing it because they want to set Dexter up for another murder of an "innocent."

I just can't stand the fact that she would probably send him to marriage counseling if he burned a damn roast. But I'm enjoying her "weak moment", and I think they'll use it as a chance for Dexter to get some space. If she caves and tells him or he just finds out that will most likely provide him with a couple get out of jail free cards and allow him to get back to work.

  4. Over the summer I was at a layover in Baltimore and a janitor walked up to a service man and said "thank you for your service." Without blinking the service man replied "thank you for yours too." I thought that was nice, and it made my delayed flight worth it.

  5. So it's pretty much been decided that Trinity killed Lundy and shot Deb? I'm not convinced yet.. In the preview for the next episode, to me it looked that they were going to build on Quinn being a dirty cop (Dexter seeing him at that night club). Lundy DID look surprised when he saw the killer.. Quinn maybe?? Eh? Eh? Or am I way off, and just hoping for a twist?

But yeah, the last episode was also filled with way too much Rita drama "Dexter, just talk to me.. blah blah blah"... C'mon, less whining, more killing!!

I'm getting sooooo frustrated with Rita. She wants to resolve every damn thing with marriage counseling. "Oh Dexter, you told me it was 6:54 when it's 6:56! We need counseling to get back to being honest."

They're definitely making it seem like there's no question about Trinity being the killer, though I'm not sure if it will end up being him. They may just be trying to throw us for a loop. I'm definitely interested to see what happens with Quinn too, but I don't think he'll be the shooter.

  6. I'm enjoying this very much myself as well. Not much of a fan of Death Cab and know very little about them but I quite like the guy's voice. Songs are stong too and it all sounds very fine indeed.

If you don't like Death Cab, but like Ben's voice, you may want to check out All-Time Quarterback or The Postal Service as he sings in both of them.

As far as the album goes, I've only given it a couple background listens but I'm liking it so far.

  7. I know, I wasn't even worried about it. I knew he must have gotten rid of them somehow.

I love Lundy & how weary Dexter is of him.

That's exactly what i told everyone too! And yes, Lundy's intricate "good" mind provides a very nice counter to Dexter's intricate "evil" mind.

  8. How'd everyone like sunday night's episode? I'm glad they didn't turn the body parts into anything big. I feel like it would have been way too early in the season for him to get caught up in any mess like that.

  9. I'm a huge fan of Clif Shots Expresso flavor (nevermind the fact that I HATE they're called "ex"presso). They have 100mg of caffeine and 100 calories each. Clif Shot Blocks are also really great (love the Strawberry flavor), but they don't have caffeine. And Clif Bars. Not to imply that I'm brand-loyal. :blush

Honestly, most of my experience with the gels are on 20+ mile runs, but they digest really well. You do need a fair amount of water with each packet, though. You don't have to worry about that as much with biking, which is why I ride with the blocks or bars, too.

If your longer rides are on particularly hot days, then I would suggest one bottle of watery Gatorade (I use the powder, and dilute it - out of the bottle Gatorade is WAY more sugary than the original recipe, and way more sugary than what you need). Otherwise, the gels/blocks should give you the salt and sugar you need.

And, if you're into going old-school, bananas and other small fruits fit handily in a jersey pouch.

Haha, should i get Clif™ bananas? :) I was actually looking at the shot blocks. I'll give those a shot. I also have 2 water cages so I was thinking of doing one regular water & one something w/ some value, so maybe i'll try the watery gatorade. This is for a 55 mile race next sunday, in Connecticut, so I'm not counting on it being terribly hot.

    I can't imagine doing a 20+ mile run!

  10. I just bought a fancy new road bike (Specialized Allez Base). And then I bought those fancy pedals and shoes. And then I bought Neosporin, ice packs, ibuprofen and a hell of a lot of gauze, and I think I have gravel stuck in my knee. Clip out dudes, always remember to clip out.

I have started cycling more places, though, to the point where I'm only filling up my Honda every eight weeks instead of every four. I commute to work, go out with friends, grocery shop, and run other errands on my other bike, a Trek hybrid. In addition to saving on gas, I'm finding I'm saving a lot on food, too. Only so much you can bring home in a back pack, and I only buy foods I know I'll eat in the next 2-3 days.

Took me a while to get used to downhills on the road bike, but now it's really easy for me to just go with the flow. I was really surprised at how my neck and shoulders hurt initially, but I was using those muscles to do a lot of things that I've never really had them do before, for three to four hour stretches. I had thought that my legs would really hurt afterward, but it's definitely more of a full-body ache/exhaustion. Then again, that might be from all the falling I've done with the new pedals and shoes. :D

    *resurrects thread*

I just started road biking this year. It killlls your shoulders and neck at first! I think they actually have hurt more than my legs at some points. Have you adjusted to your clipless pedals okay? I managed to only fall once in mine, and that was clipping out dead stop at a stop light! I just like to think I made a lot of people laugh :)

  11. I commended Pitchfork only yesterday for their Pearl Jam review, but they're back to their old shenanigans with this one - writing almost exactly the opposite of what I would have written. The only part they got right was saying that Mike Mogis is a highlight. I get the angle - Jim James is the only one stretching here, but who expected this record to be about each of these artists really stretching? Can't it just be good?

And that Mogis solo on Conan was awesome.

Honestly, they basically said they wanted an album of "Dear God..." which, in my opinion, was one of the less appealing, albeit interesting, songs on the album. This album wasn't about them getting together and doing something different, it was about them sitting back and enjoying making music together like any teenager with his friends.

  12. Given that I have not been a fan of reverberated Jim James things and am entirely unfamiliar with anyone else, it's not a bad record. Hm.

I was slightly worried because anyone who decides that they are a "Monster of Folk" (I suppose here I see "Monster" as someone really important) means they are cocky as shit. And I don't like that, haha.

The name was definitely meant in jest. I'm pretty sure they had said that when they toured together previously, they jokingly referred to themselves by that name and it stuck.

  13. Man Named Truth aside, the Oberst & M. Ward stuff is miles better than the rest or the junk on here. Overall I like it a lot.

It's funny that you mention that song, because it's the only song I actually knew before this collaboration. I heard Bright Eyes do that song in 2006, but I enjoy it a lot at that time. Aside from my previous comment, it's a very likable record, and I still can't wait to see them live again together. At the same time, I know how awesome all these guys can be as musicians and I feel like we didn't get it all combined properly with this album.

  14. Hey all -

Firstly, a long time since I posted last. The wife and I finally bought a house and spent the summer settling in - lots more to do! Haven't set up the vinyl turntable or got around to ordering the reissues. Looking forward to it very much. Painting my music room this weekend and going to set all my stuff up.

Anyways - having some issues in the technology department and thought I'd reach out to see if anyone had some pointers.

    1) Using a portable harddrive to back up my system and maybe store some large files (music, movies, etc.) on there. Is that something simple to do? I have a laptop with about 200gb. (Dell Inspiron 1525) I'm not a computer wiz so I was wondering how that worked. I'd rather see if I can get some info here instead of talking and looking stupid somewhere like a best buy. I'd like to clear some space to record some demos for my band. Not sure where I need to go with it.

    2) And I can't burn DVDs for some reason. Some of them work and some of them don't. Are they the cd's or something to do with an ISO? I'm using DVD Flick>ImgBurn and the discs don't play in the player. Some of them are in AVI and they won't play? It confuses the hell out of me. It shouldn't take over 2 hours to burn right? Any insight?

I know pretty off the wall questions but I thought I'd try here.

Now off to bed for the first day of students - brought them all the way to the 8th Grade! (I'm a 8th Grade Dean started with them in the 6th). Maybe gonna have to hook up the turntable tomorrow! =)

    Thanks.

    Thanks to anyone that responds.

In regards to the hard drive, they're pretty simple nowadays. You can get a 500 gig hard drive fairy cheap, and all you need to do is plug it in and it shows up under "My Computer" then you can just drag & drop any files you'd like to copy to it.

As far as the dvd's taking a while to burn, it depends on what format they were to begin with. Most movies; avi's, mpeg's, etc, will require converting to dvd format before they burn and that is what takes so long.

  15. I have quite a bit of experience with the Canon dslr line. I used the 10D, 20D, 30D, owned the 350D, and currently have the 40D. I definitely cannot recommend them enough. Currently they have the 500D and 1000D which should be more in your price range. Here's a link comparing the 3 cameras: http://bit.ly/1587LP that site's a great resource as well for researching cameras.

  16. Cursive - Ten Percent to the Ten Percent

You seemed like such a smart young man

Your father's got a lot of friends

I didn't bother to check your references

We're a successful company with endless opportunity

So why must you shit where you eat?

It all started out in the warehouse

Watching the stock, watching the clock

Taking shots from a flask of scotch

    My first evaluation came

    Remarkably they sang my praise

Keep up the pace, you could see a raise in pay.

This seemed like a good challenge to me

So I started a game of craps in the back alley

What better way to supplement minimum wage?

    Despite these fits of debauchery

The managers failed to notice me

So, what the fuck, I started stealing things

    Once inventory rolled around

A few skew items could not be found

Some DVD's and a wide screen TV

'We'll dock these items from your pay

We expect you to finish out the day

Your father must be so ashamed

    Fuck you and your job

And I'll shit where I want

This country's going to go out with a bang

This country's headed for Dependence Day

So lay out your blankets and wait for the fireworks' display

You're restless and bored and your job keeps you broke

Big Business booms to make sure that we don't

So get in the ring, you just ran out of rope

I'll give ten percent to the ten percent

    (I'll give ten percent)

    Hand me those classifieds
