  1. Yes. Have you heard the Lips live material from the 90's with Drozd on drums and Jones on guitar? They could choose to go back to that style, but they are doing something different now and probably don't want to add the cost of another guitar player. Drozd is one of the best drummers in rock.
  2. Sure it does. To determine "better", you have to factor in several aspects. Wilco hasn't pioneered anything. That's minus 1. Wilco did not have an impact on music in general. That's minus 2. Bands like Zepp and Floyd kicked the living crap out of Wilco live and innovated live rock shows as we know it (especially Floyd). That's minus 3. Zep and Floyd had much stronger runs than Wilco's two album run. The albums Floyd and Zep crafted are immortal classics of music, the closest thing rock has to beethovens 5th. The originality and quality of the songs is STUNNING, That's minus 4. Wilco lacks top
  3. Surely you aren't suggesting that Wilco is a better band than Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones? When you talk about "great bands" those three are at the top along with the Beatles and Dylan. Wilco is a nice pop act that made two really neat records in ST and YHF. But in terms of their impact on rock, they are nothing. The chief co-songwriter who was on their two best albums isn't even with the band anymore. They didn't innovate anything, they aren't that great live. If Wilco never made a record nothing would have changed about rock/pop. They are a solid pop band in an era of not s
  4. What did it impact and influence? It made a nice article because of the record company goofs, but surely you aren't suggesting it had the impact of someting like Sgt. Peppers, Dark Side or Nevermind?
  5. Wilco has two really good records - YHF and Summerteerth, with YHF coming close to the masters. There's nothing really new about what Wilco has done - just a solid pop band with a good ear for melody. They haven't impacted music, and they haven't really influenced anyone. They are just a solid band that made two really good records in ST and YHF. Putting AM, Being There and AGIB into any kind of a run would be a stretch. Both AM and Being There sound incredibly dated now, and AGIB is really uneven.
  6. The Flaming Lips, M83 and the Drive By Truckers are the best bands alive right now. Radiohead hasn't made a good record since 2000. Same for Wilco. Look folks. The truth is todays bands absolutely SUCK compared to the 60's and 70's greats. Those giants would turn out masterpieces every two years, sometimes every year. Today we get these ok records every 3-4 years. Thom Yorke and his Pro Tools rig painstakingly craft songs for years on end because they can't play properly. Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd could shit out an album and have it be musically superior, and do it on a regular basis. Th
  7. That's an insult to the Eagles and the Dead. This album is like 70's adult rock, but with ZERO melodies or worthwhile songs. It would be great if it had the top notch melodies of the Dead or the Eagles, but it doesn't even have that. At least the Eagles and Dead had their own unique sound and wrote epic tunes. It doesn't even really have a jam band element either. It's like the most dull adult 70's rock album one could possibly dream up.
  8. Some of the reviews are saying this is his best album, period. It really is a great piece of work. Easily the best release of 2007 so far (including Sky Blue Sky).
  9. That's what I thought as well. Keep listening.
  10. sounds like any other adult-lite smooth jazz guitarist.
  11. Just as uptight and anal as the songs themselves, with that boring clean efficieny that has plagued the band since after YHF.
  12. Yes, boring, sterile Randy Newman covers mixed with lifeless vocals and boring playing are "perfection".
  13. Yeah I'm sure someone desperate enough to meet Tweedy in person is an objective voice on the new record.
  14. The Beatles never made anything this boring and lifeless.

    Sky Blue Sky

This might be the most boring album I have ever heard.
  16. I never thought I would say this, but: For awhile it was said that Jeff passed by Jay in terms of songwriting, and this was probably correct. But now it's safe to say that the exact opposite has happened. Jay is back with a rocking, exciting album with some stellar tunes, and Wilco is now on a serious downslide, becoming an adult contemporary band with no fire. Strange how things work!
  17. What album are you listening to? There is no "shred". This is Dad/Soccer Mom Rock.
  18. Wilco goes adult contemporary. Sad day. Maybe the next album will bring back some sort of edge or good sound.
  19. That's what lazy hipsters say because they can't write those great guitar solos or those great songs. It's a convenient "out" for the lazy and fashion-over-talent-obsessed indie scene.
  20. These tracks sound like watered down AGIB. They seem boring and ready made for the 93.1 XRT Adult Contemporary playlist. What happened to Wilco the alternative band?
  21. Funeral is a masterpiece. But the new album is not up to snuff.
  22. Enough with all these bullshit whiner indie albums. Time to bring out the big guns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPL6KFDk5Uc
