This guy is still struggling to find his own voice. Sounds like adult contemporary music. Lots of James Taylor on this one. There's just lots of playing and singing, but nothing that is fully realized or properly fleshed out. It's just "pecking around" and comes off as insincere and forced.

alt.country is very far from a punk background. You are correct that it wasn't termed "alt.country" until the Jayhawks (and then Uncle Tupelo),but it wasn't based on punk. Waylon and Willie sounded like mainstream country. Townes sounded alternative IMHO. Check out "Our Mother the Mountain".
-
Some aspects of Neil are definitely alt.country. Same for a huge chuck of Townes Van Zandt's stuff. Check out "Our Mother the Mountain" for a truly brilliant alt.country record.

Agreed. But Louris picked it up lyrically for a bunch of RDM. Olson writes some wicked lyrics though.

Listen - New Polyphonic Spree 'Fragile Army'

Just heard the album. -
A simple "these are the only albums I own, here they are as the best five consecutive of all time" would have been even more eloquent.
-
In order to have the five greatest consecutive albums, you need at least a few "10's" an album. I'm not saying those are bad albums. But I am saying there's not nearly enough classic songs on the masterpiece level to justify the nomination. I don't see a Black Dog, Dear Prudence, Shine On, When the Levee Breaks, Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, etc. But hey, if think they are, more power to you.
-
That's the weakest "best consecutive five album" list I have ever seen. There's more filler in there than a Lost episode.
-
It would happen if it wasn't for Dave. He's being a major dick right now.

Dark Side of the Moon and Days of Future Passed. Yoshimi has a operatic flow, but Wayne has said only the first few songs are a stong concept.
-
I think they might have not appeared together as to not draw attention away from the reason for the show. There are backstage pics of Waters hanging with Rick Wright during th event. And Rick and Roger are not the best of friends. Roger is trying to make ammends because he wants a reunion tour with a bunch of shows at NYC, Chicago, LA and London. Dave is the only thing holding back a full reunion at this point. Roger and Rick made some great music together. See "Us and Them" as an example of their songwriting prowess. They sold their souls to the devil for that one..... Just found out th

I can think of one that absolutely crushes it in terms of innovation, originality, musicianship, lyrics and live performances: Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall
-
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Hollywood Town Hall - The Jayhawks Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts - M83 The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips Days of Future Passed - Moody Blues
-
It was memorable enough for you to reply to it.
-
At least they were able to craft memorable songs. Most indie bands these days are about as memorable as a Mcdonald's bag.
-
Bagpipes? Guitar? It's a fucking synth.
-
Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground. Zeppelin would fill entire albums with songs like that.
-
1. The Soft Bulletin 2. Yoshimi 3. Transmissions 4. Clouds Taste Metallic 5. Zaireeka 6. In a Priest Driven Ambulance 7. Hit To Death 8. Mystics 9. Telepathic Surgery 10. Oh My Gawd 11. Hear it Is
-
None of those are really memorable songs, especially Blue Orchid.
