Given my forum name, it should be a big shock that I think this is a fantastic album.

Jay Farrar (and Friends): New Multitudes
ShuckOwens replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
I STRONGLY disagree about Jay's contributions. As I stated that I am not a fan of Billy Bragg, the mere fact alone that this album contains 100% less Billy Bragg makes it far and away superior to the Mermaid outings. 1) Who? 2) This band already released their interpretation of "Revolutionary Mind"? 3) Is there room for more than one interpretation? -

Jay Farrar (and Friends): New Multitudes
ShuckOwens replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
The Guthrie Archives approaches musicians to interpret the vast lyrics left behind by Woody. My guess is this will go on for many years, given the expanse of material... so no... not really accurate to call this a response. Incidentally, Jay was approached to dig with Billy Bragg before Tweedy. As I am not a Billy Bragg fan, I'm glad it shaked out the way it did. The Multitude effort is by and large superior to the Mermaid outings. -

First, an all-out assault on '30 Rock', now this damning reference: http://gawker.com/#!5774507/brownstone-brooklynites-absolutely-terrified-of-hip+hop-music It's time we confronted our musical xenophobia head-on, y'all.

Keith Olbermann suspension/ MSNBC woes
ShuckOwens replied to ShuckOwens's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I guess you're snarkily asking me if I read the story? Sure. Now, I'm pontificating that higher ups are starting to comb carefully for reasons to bump off some of the big payroll targets there, ahead of the Comcast bean-counters. Olbermann was unfortunate enough to make a big enough gaffe to become an easy first swipe. -
Keith Olbermann suspended without pay, indefinitely. My guess... this is a preemptive strike at some of the larger salaries parked at a failing "news channel", ahead of the Comcast takeover. Look for further flushing at the rock.

There are of course, umpteen different artists or bands that do not interest whichever demographic you choose, and probably never will. The writers could have slipped in 'Toby Keith', or 'Maroon 5', and gotten more mileage... but they decided to get a dig in at a section of the audience that they suspect will tune in, and enjoy a good chuckle at their own expense. A joke about no anglos wanting to attend a Abida Parveen concert is not going to score big laughs.

Wow. That is exactly what I am saying. If deep down you enjoy your Metzger melodies surrounded by a crowd that would make a David Duke rally blush, you really should feel pretty awful about yourself.

I'm relieved that ya'll can take this sudden big-show exposure of, and scathing swipe at the intolerant and exclusionary nature of Wilco's xenophobic fans and music in stride. Even the most enlighted and progressive of us fighting to belly up to the edge of the stage to be seen squealing capo changes in our flat caps, hope & change T's and wayfarer specs have a long way to go when it comes to accepting and including other cultures. Too far apart. White power.

Casino Queen. Nobody rallies the troops like Brian Henneman.

That's a good 'un. The Kerouac Kids- Jay & Ben Gibbard currently.

This is devastating. Aside from being a phenomonal talent, and being such a large part of the greatest music in decades, he seemed like a very humble guy who kept a keen sense of humor through the pain. Jay will be sadly missed, and my thoughts are with his family.

Thanks... funny thing, I avoided watching it because I was told "...you're gonna love it", which usually means I end up hating the suggested movie. Now I'm obsessed with it. In their defense, they did effectively protect you from my videos. They were pretty bad.

I'm not referring to video tapers (or phoners, as it were). I agree with you that viewing clips probably has the opposite effect in which they obviously fear: stunting media sales in some way. My clips were using a song as a music bed for an animation that I was inspired to create, and share. Some other fans had shared similar work... some, I assume are also posters here, and were pulled as well. It's the first time I have encountered a complaint and subsequent yanking due to a music bed being used. I clearly indicated on the postings (which were not even public, but private at the time) th

It's all been a steep downhill letdown since All In the Family. How's that for an undesireable demo?

I was notified via email that two of the fan animations (for two of my favorite Wilco songs) I posted on YouTube were removed due to a music rights complaint by the owner. I found this odd, as these were private videos for many months now, not public. Then I searched for some of my favorite fellow Wilco fan animations: *poof*. Pretty hardcore. I don't know of anyone neglecting to buy a song or album simply because they could listen to it for free in dazzling @96kps quality.

"Man is conceived in sin and born in corruption." - Willie Stark (Broderick Crawford- All the King's Men - 1949) I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Ouch. I had to chuckle at an MSNBC report last night recounting the "...shocking allegations". Is this not simply Chicago politics as normal?

I get it... you called me a "Schmuck". This totally must be what it feels like to be power-owned.
