  1. It's a tie between Neutral Milk Hotel and the Pixies* - and that's that. *Yes I realize most of their material was written in the 80's, the late 80's - so fuck it - The Pixies!
  2. So, to be clear, comparing Embryonic to The Soft Bulletin = not ok - but comparing the current Wilco and the current Radiohead to the current Flaming Lips is ok?
  3. Me, I'm partial to Metamucil. Has the band sold the rights to one of their songs to the folks at Geritol yet? I liked how they put the edge back in Mayonnaise, which, on account of all these washed up health conscious douche bags, had, up until that point, lost a good deal of its artery choking edge.
  4. Yes, if no longer deriving intense pleasure from albums such as this means I’ve lost my all important edge, well, oh fucking well. I find bands such as Godspeed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, John Zorn, Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Phillip Glass, Zeni Geva, Ghost, Sonic Youth, TV on the Radio, Slint, whatever name Mike Patton is recording under at any given moment, and about 100 other bands infinitely more “experimental” and worthy of admiration than 99% of what is found on the new Lips album - which, from where I’m sitting, sounds like experimental for novices. My taste in music is as broa
  5. I’ll invite you over for my daughter’s next playdate - when there are eight children running around with just as many electronic dodad noise makers, and you’d be amazed at how similar it might sound - I’m not even joking, not even a little bit. The vocals on “If”, among other tracks, sound a little too much like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZkrxoJY1Wo&feature=related If you were to strip away all the extraneous noise, there would be very little left to listen too. Whereas, if you were to do the same with the new Circulatory System cd, you’d be left with some brilliant pop
  6. If it is, well then I might just have to abandon the genre entirely. Please, dont - I'd rather not have to hate Wilco's next album - as I do this overworked piece of tuneless skronk.
  7. I’ll probably get attacked for even considering it, but I was considering talking a friend into attending his Halloween bash dressed as the World Trade Center’s Tower 1, with me going as Tower 2 - complete with flames and explosions and all that other scary stuff.
  8. For all its detractors, Wikipedia is just as accurate as the books published by the folks at Britannica according to several studies. http://news.cnet.com/Study-Wikipedia-as-accurate-as-Britannica/2100-1038_3-5997332.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4530930.stm And, unlike the hard copies, mistakes and inaccuracies can be corrected in real time. So, in some ways, Wikipeida is superior to a big honking set of expensive laptop proper uppers. Edit: With that said, as others have noted, it is generally not accepted as a source for research papers, term papers, etc. However, it
  9. According to those fucking liberals over at the limp-wristed Wikipedia, Conservapedia was founded (by Andrew Schalafly) as a teaching aid for home schooled children. From Wikipedia: Schlafly, a social studies teacher for the Eagle Forum University educational program,[11] created Conservapedia as an instruction tool for homeschooled, high-school-level students whom he taught.[4][12] He felt the need to start the project after reading a student's assignment written using Common Era dating notation rather than the Anno Domini system that he preferred.[13] Although he was "an early Wikipedi
  10. From Beliefnet: Conservatizing the Bible The eager young men at Conservapedia are p.o.'d that the Bible might be seen as too liberal. So they've come up with the Wiki-style Conservative Bible Project, to make sure the Lord doesn't go all wobbly on us. Excerpt: As of 2009, there is no fully conservative translation of the Bible which satisfies the following ten guidelines:[1] Framework against Liberal Bias: providing a strong framework that enables a thought-for-thought translation without corruption by liberal bias Not Emasculated: avoiding unisex, "gender inclusive"
  11. How could I forget - Pedro the Lion - The Poison The poison makes its way through my body slowly Into the pleasure centers of my brain If you were here I would admit that I'm an asshole But now it’s over and I can’t stay sober Though it isn't like I tried And on the front porch, or on an airplane on vacation Or out for dinner in a nearby town I was so proud just to have you sitting with me But now it’s over and I can’t stay sober Pour and swallow Follow one shot with another I'll keep on till you agree to come back over Or until there are X's on my eyes My old man always swore that hell woul
  12. In a sane world, I would think the mere sight of Gene Simmons’s face would pretty much force him to be faithful, not to mention his general ickiness.
  13. Five minutes of her yapping in my ear, and I’d be begging relief from a tree at 90 mph.
  14. RE: Palin "My honest view is that she would not be a winning candidate for president and if she was the results would be ... catastrophic," - McCain '08 manager Steve Schmidt link - http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/10/former-mccain-campaign-manger-nominating-palin-in-2012-would-be-catastrophic.php
  15. I’m just thrilled to learn that the technology has progressed to the point where tuna fish cans are utilized as part of the freezing process.
  16. So you've stopped listening to Savage then? (insert the appropriate emoticon)
  17. Given that an Attorney General holds an incredible amount of power, and the job often requires us to trust them, having an affair, to me, suggests that they’re not entirely trustable – and if they’re willing to lie to their spouse, children, friends and family, assuming they keep it a secret, for me, it reflects poorly on their ability to perform their job, which often depends upon their ability to remain honest and trustworthy – imo.
  18. I think you’ve just described humor’s origin – defusing an uncomfortable situation by getting others to laugh, often at your own expense.
  19. Keeping with all things Will Oldham: Superwolf – I Gave You Will Oldham – New Partner – for when you find that lucky new someone. Though, it’s been said that this song is a murder ballad, so there’s also that…
  20. You’re welcome. Have you read any of Krakauer’s other books? Into Thin Air? Into the Wild? Dave Cullen's Columbine is also excellent – probably the best non-fiction book I’ve read this year. Edit: Or, with a nod towards Halloween, if you’re in the mood for a good old fashioned ghost story, I highly recommend Sarah Waters’, The Little Stranger.
  21. When confronted about his weight, Michael tends to claim that he is a fit 175 pounds of lean muscle. What an ass.
  22. I’ve been a fan since their Restless days, my exposure to the band came by way of Telepathic Surgery – and I’m usually on board for just about anything they’re willing to try – including Zaireeka, which I love. Their latest, however, strikes me as adventurous in a clichéd, self-indulgent sort of way. I’m having a really difficult time trying to articulate just what it is I don’t like about it. It just strikes me as the sort of album where its creators lock themselves in the studio and just go apeshit amusing themselves, which can often result in classic records, but in this case, it just doesn
