I NEVER wished death upon anyone nor would I ever............I do believe 100% that Elliott would not have been the same artist with as brilliant of records everytime had he been a happy cheerful non drug using artist...........everyone is different on what they "need" to get through...........I agreed Elliott and others were artists regardless...........but my point is their drug use or experimentation(however you want to view it) made those records more than they would have been otherwise.........

drugs alter mind sets no matter what it is................Paul McCartney was actually the brainchild behind that album.........seeing it was mostly his idea and all.......Martin was brilliant.........but the lyrical representations were the drugged up Beatles.......

that is the way I see it...........to me from all I have read and enjoying his music over the years..............he had to be in that state of mind to work...........which imo would not be the same had he not been on stuff over all those albums.............do you think the beatles would have come up with sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band and magical mystery tour for instance if they drank V8 Juice all the time and did not do anything(drugs) unhealthy...........see I do not buy your drug arguement not for a second...........too many masterpieces can be stated here to prove otherwise.........

his music would not have been near the brilliance had he been sober and not on drugs and depressed............that is the truth..........I highly doubt he ever would have reached the success he did had he been sober...........however for his health and for those around him..............sure they wanted him to be sober.............but truely a sober elliott smith is one no one is talking about today.........

read a few books on Elliott Smith..............an absolute genius..............but to think of him cleaning up would have been a shame..............unfortunately for him his music then would have suffered greatly.............so have a guy get cleaned up and put out a crappy record...........or be patient with his use of drugs and watch him produce another masterpiece...........duh!

2nd album was just like the first in sound imo...........but after that I see your point.............I think as artists they realized over the past few years of free concerts they were backed in a corner professionally and now it is put up or shut up for them................before I think they always thought they would make it.............now they realize they could join Hootie and the Blowfish in the Land of the Lost with another pop mishap like Hard Candy..........

Kool G Rap and DJ Polo were the shit!.......his lisp was hard!

but of course..........."....chicken tastes like wood...."

to me Holiday in Spain is their best song ever..............absolutely brilliant.............it is off of that album..........

Hard Candy is tough to listen to......It was at that time a lot of bands from that era were starting to find out that they were being pushed out by others styles of music such as emo etc and their music reflected that...............I thought This Desert Life was a very good album..........I think in his sobering experiences and his desire to get the band back on track in today's music world...........his lyrics will be there on the new one..........I think for them it will be a great day and comeback..

same era...........same type of sound and often toured together etc..............that is what he meant.........

.............very cool..............loved this band always...............I have always said that Adam Duritz is a very underrated lyricist.............I like all of their albums.............Murder of One and Holiday in Spain are my fav songs by them.............gotta say for him to be sober is good for him personally but he was such a performer the few times I saw him when he was lit onstage................he also has the added honor of dating Courtney Cox and Jennifer Anniston..........the two good looking friends.............not a bad days work there

ageed those are very good indeed and very important.............around the 88-92 era with a little before and after................Common is real cool...........I like him.........

I love Boxer and Alligator..........they are very different..............Alligator is more scattered and loud.............Boxer is more patterened and mellow...............The National is really coming on which is good they are a real good band...........

I gotta go with 88-92................with albums such as It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back by Public Enemy..............Paul's Boutique by The Beastie Boys...............Strictly Business by EPMD.................although before that...............85-87 was very important to me as well with albums such as UTFO by UTFO...............Back in Black by Whodini.............and Bigger and Deffer by LL Cool J came out as well...........these two eras were where I grew to really love rap..........after that it has kind of been downhill for me with the occasional good album imo.............

clickish works for me.............not an english teacher..........but a teacher no doubt..........

to each is own................I prefer to think of this good band from the 90's like this..............
