  1. that was priceless. and seems like only yesterday.
  2. i wouldn't dream of putting words in your mouth. they were my words, just look at the name on them.
  3. yah, i laughed too. can't help laughing every time mccain unwittingly reveals his true intentions.
  4. yes, absolutely -- i was just adding to your point, but you're right: the fact that the entire region has been a tinderbox for centuries made it that much more foolish for us to invade and think we're going to change anything for the better, especially when our gov't really doesn't care if it gets better for the people who live there. we have another main agenda.
  5. we have caused major destabilization there in the last five years. that's what makes the stabilization argument especially laughable.
  6. this is a good question any day, and today i can pass along a first-person perspective from a discussion with a navy pilot staying next door to us for a week on vacation with his family. he is an iraq war veteran, having returned this past april from his second iraq stint, which lasted for a little over a year. he is in his thirties, and until now has considered himself a career military man. and he may still be, but he is disgusted with this war. my husband and i knew he'd recently returned from iraq and were making a point of not bringing it up with him, to give him his privacy and n
  7. did you say you don't have sound? is that voluntary or involuntary?
  8. as a college-educated whatever who was always not interested in climbing any ladders, corporate, social or otherwise, i see this as really something. and i'm not saying i don't believe it, though whose numbers are those, originally? it's very possible, though. there are two working people in my house (actually, only two people, period). in the late '80s, we probably considered ourselves middle class. in the '90s, that pretty much held. since around 2000, we're both aware of slippage. working class seemed more apt for a lot of that time, although in the last couple of years our num
  9. you people are really confusing this southpaw. i thought i wished i would have been an mlb player/pitcher if i'd been born male. now, who knows what to think? this is really interesting, though.
  10. that was a magnificent rsox/twins 1-0 game tonight. beautiful job by dice-k! (and scott baker), plus, added bonus, the okajima we knew last year seems to be coming back. not to mention manny ramirez getting the one rbi. whew.
  11. beautiful! these have really helped me. concentration on and comprehension of long stories do not improve with age. thank you.
  12. just heard this this afternoon. if mccain is elected and balances the budget in his first term, i will start flying again. that means it's highly highly highly unlikely. it's kind of amazing he'd make such an impossible statement, given his other plans. who could believe he'd be able to fulfill this promise, even if they like him and are voting for him?
  13. wow, well this kazmir-leaving-mets story sure went from amusing to tragic in a hurry. same here. it's been a several-year wish.
  14. that was a major mistake. no one seemed to get that one, and i sure didn't. actually, red sox fans would like to see him returned to the mets too and out of the AL.
  15. who would've thought a simple name change could do it? i'm glad for kazmir, though; always thought he belonged on a contending team. and it's too bad huff isn't there for this.
  16. most sox fans i know (including myself) are pretty happy with the team in general this year, despite the few slumps that one always has to expect. now if we could just figure out those rays. . . .
  17. yah, i hear you. i still say he has gotten the win several times when i didn't think he pitched that well; and beckett has lost some that he probably deserved to win.
  18. i hear ya. and yes, the nervousness is similar to nervousness over timlin. is timlin back yet? despite nervousness, we're needing him in the bullpen these days! girardi just got ejected. he and the ump looked like pac-man heads.
  19. ok. of the last four games he pitched, he won 1 and in general this year "hasn't been impressive," IMO. i believe he has had some really good luck with several of his wins -- according to our tv in our living room -- but hey, i hope 100% that i'm wrong and he is perfect. i like the guy. he's still adjusting.
  20. ordonez seems to be having a decent year. i've always liked that guy, especially when the rsox had wily mo pena playing right half the time a couple years ago. scary. i wanted to personally trade away pena for ordonez and bypass the bureaucratic shenanigans.
