  1. sometimes your posts remind of stephen colbert -- his character, i mean.
  2. it must be the all-star game, which is pretty boring. i'm watching it but getting very antsy. besides, your topic is class A!
  3. has it occurred to you that maybe they ARE dust? and why are you up in the night, anyway? i'm sorry i'm no help, but usually i let our spiders live. i have a friend who knows everything, though -- seriously -- and i'll ask her. will post if the know-it-all knows about this. edit/p.s. that is one fascinating photo up there.
  4. ellen, where are they? how many? and you say they're caucasian? send them up here in a cab, i'll cook them what would be a normal supper for my skills, and they'll be dead by midnight.
  5. kurt sort of got it right, so i'm amending "oil does not = heroin" to "oil is worse than heroin."
  6. absolutely zero. one makes a hell of a lot more sense (or is that cents) than the other, though. i'm just trying to think past tomorrow, idiot that i am.
  7. we can always hope for a miracle. or, if no miracle, maybe they'll shift their gaze when the lights in their hotshot buildings don't work.
  8. one you can't plan for long term because it won't be around long term. two, if the best minds will focus on it, could in fact be limitless; in fact, that seems to be one of the main attributes it has going for it.
  9. oil does not = heroin. it has two major problems, though. (1) the supply isn't limitless. (2) we have no "permanent" dealer, and the dealers we have don't like us too much. so either we fight for it, for years and years (to what end), oh and more years, did i mention years?, or we develop new sources of energy. yah, i know -- obviously -- development doesn't happen overnight. all the more reason to get going.
  10. the effect, if there is one, would be subliminal, not literal. even then, the reason-challenged people who still today believe obama is a muslim and bites necks for blood in the night wouldn't be voting for him anyway; the cover would just be more confirmation for them. i can hardly believe this is a topic, but there's satire for you. sometimes it's great and sometimes it's not.
  11. i'm counting on people to demand such things, and their increased interest in mass transport already, at only $4/gallon for gas, has pleasantly surprised me. i didn't think it would start this soon. i don't count on legislators, by themselves, to accomplish a whole lot of anything these days. am hoping that will evolve. kind of fast.
  12. and? we don't think it's a good idea to aim for the infrastructure we're likely to need in the not too distant future because we're so far behind or what? i'm not seeing the relevance here.
  13. the united states, in the 1950s-60s era, started dismantling its mass transit infrastructure -- and building an unending massive highway system instead, to accommodate everyone's wish for a car. ever notice the many unused railroad tracks and train stations dotting the country? (of course, you can see only the stations that weren't razed for the gratification of some developer.) they were put there in the first place for a reason: to get everyone where they need to go, whether it's across the country or six blocks across town. i don't know about europe. but word has it that they st
  14. hallelujah, you brought this up! (i'm too new.) jnick, pleeeeeeeeez? how am i going to agree with you some of the time and not others if you don't change that damn thing so i can continue to read your posts? my face is really sore.
  15. oh what a lucky little guy, with an extremely high cuteness factor. you all did such a great job cleaning him up -- he started out with a hard life but has ended up just where he belongs and is loved already. i love a happy story, especially with happy animals. congratulations to noodle!
  16. ok, you'd rather be waterboarded than have someone hurt your junk. that's just grand, we'll put you down for waterboarding and nothing worse. you don't get a say, buddy. waterboarding is only some percentage of torture techniques. chances are, if you're caught in an immoral detainee system and are waterboarded, you either have been or will be tortured in other ways also; and my impression is, they don't give a crap about your junk. in fact, since you're worried about your junk, they'll likely target it. "they" being middle-eastern torturers or u.s. torturers or any other brand of
  17. ah yes, this makes a lot of sense too. depressing but true. well said, q23!
  18. no time or heart for a briefing. i volunteer: dismiss my posts arbitrarily.
