  1. ok, i give up, what is that? a place to seek the holy grail?
  2. that guy has really plummeted in my book. i wonder if he was nasty all along and i just didn't know it or he has acquired the nastiness due to god knows what.
  3. here's what bugs me: for years politicians would not own up to wrongdoing of any kind. then, recently, certain politicians began to think that saying "i made a mistake" is taking responsibility. a mistake is an error. and there really are honest mistakes/errors . . . but then there's the other kind. so i don't think the word "mistake" by itself covers it.
  4. that can't be bigfoot's body. bigfoot lives across the street from me and runs an obnoxious car vac machine outside his laundromat.
  5. very interesting -- i guess this thread went on while i was still oblivious to this forum of vc. i'm sweetheart-mine because "sweetheart mine" were the very first words i ever heard tweedy sing -- when i channel-surfed to ovation and they were running the "man in the sand" documentary. whoa, who is THIS voice!!!???!!! just to be thorough: it's from "roses bloom again."
  6. this link (sorry, i don't know how to shorten): http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/07/15/how-to-convert it came from one of the threads analogman must have been thinking of. it tells you exactly how to convert flac files, using xACT. believe me, if i could follow those instructions (and i could), ANYONE can. the owl and bear archives are fantastic, and you can get anything you want from there into itunes using the instructions from the link above. they're very clear, for tech idiots like me. good luck.
  7. in addition to that sort of worry, with kids to raise it's got to be especially hard to be an on-the-road-ballplayer's wife. the few without kids can enjoy some of the solitude, i hope. i know i would.
  8. just got back to southern maine from downeast maine. we tanked up the vehicle in ellsworth at $3.65/gallon. glad we did. by the time we got within 20 miles of home it was $3.89.
  9. me too. can we order about 500 bumper stickers for the truck and house? it's great.
  10. oh wow. isn't she one of the few sox wives/girlfriends who aren't into the long-blonde-hair thing? (no offense to anyone with long blonde hair! it's just that the percentage there is really out of balance.) seriously, this makes me sad, and it's very probable that this kind of personal turmoil would affect his season.
  11. where did that come from? wherever he said it, did anyone point out reality to him? i know, slim chance, but just wondering. for the record, i know tons of people 50 and above who are not eating up that stuff, and i'm one of them.
  12. what a messy and fun game to watch. wish i was at fenway. we keep waking up the cats with our groans and shouts.
  13. the last lead i saw blown this badly was in 1989, i think. but i could be wrong, not signing any contract.
  14. 12-10 now. not the walk in the park it started out to be. what else is new? my mother did tell me to expect this sort of thing in life. . . .
  15. it was good enough that zink had a fine first inning, and now this!
  16. zink is pitching tonight. i can't wait. the knuckleball is mysterious and exciting. wake's may be the only one i've ever seen.
  17. mccain's senate votes and his turnaround since 2000 show that there are more than enough reasons not to put him in the white house. i see no point in going back forty years in an attempt to discredit his behavior as a p.o.w., because we'll never know what it was, i also think it doesn't matter, and the attempt smells like the dirty politics route that has become so disgusting in political life. my opinion is to move on from that; it's the path down, not up.
  18. this is only an estimate, but the rays have won about 67 straight. i lost count, so can't be sure.
  19. h.b., q23, with whom a conversation is always pleasant! i hope it's a great one.
  20. this should be very interesting! i wonder how cash will do with him.
  21. if the edwards affair had happened twenty years ago, i agree that it would be more of a main topic in the press now than mccain's past transgression is. edwards doesn't have the shields (such as p.o.w. status) that mccain has -- but edwards is no longer running for anything, and i believe this story will not last long. he would be a poor choice for obama's v.p. running mate, though, because an unknown but probably large number of u.s. voters, right or wrong, would not vote for that ticket because of edwards's affair. as for cabinet or supreme court positions, those aren't decided by the
  22. yes, very cute. i love danny's blog and check it every few days for more of his interesting and witty observations and insights. it's one of the most well written blogs i've come across, too.
