yah, they were kind enough to show it on nesn during the post-game, i couldn't believe it was him! i'd like to see it again, but, um, they're probably not displaying it on the yanks home page.

have absorbed many buddhist teachings via osmosis around my buddhist husband, but i remain a practicing agnostic. was brought up presbyterian by parents, one of whom fell into atheism as soon as the kids were out of the house and the other became an avid unitarian, if you can call a unitarian avid. i am married to fundamentalist baptist in-laws and have a jewish sister-in-law. i know this all means nothing, but i felt like writing.

i didn't and don't profess to know anything about you at all, except now you offered moe a drink and not me. but it's okay, honest!

just came back from commercial to find the homeplate ump at camden yards yelling at some complainer in the red sox dugout, "Drink some decaf!"

yes, i'm aware of those biblical meanings. i doubt very much that tweedy was using the word in those senses. no, he didn't explain what he meant, but common sense because of the context, not to mention taking into account too many lyrics of his to quote, informed my *opinion.* it's an opinion, a supposing, that's all. most of what everyone is writing in this thread includes suppositions, including a number of yours. i'm still with viatroy: in the end, i don't know and you don't either. it's one of the heartaches and beauties of life.

that's the perfect summary.

by "fearful," he meant the song was born out of fear, imo; fear was its source. and possibly that it is ultimately fearmongering. "satan, your kingdom must come down" -- i have to agree with jt.

hey, that sounds really good to me right now and i'm not even one of those proselytizers.

you know, jeff looks a little like earl in "saving grace" in that picture!

yes, that's when he says it. actually, the first thing he says after singing that is something like "those songs are all so fearful." agnostics doubt many things, that is for sure. i also think that some kind of faith is not something many agnostics pursue. we're living the questions.
-
i'm not sure but i think you lost me. help. do agnostics have faith (except in "anything is possible") and do atheists go to church? no, right? as an agnostic i actually don't feel conflicted about organized religion. there are a lot of reasons why i don't go to church, but they don't cause me conflict -- except for when things are really bad and i wish i believed in god but can't. i sense that jt, when he says something about god, or a god, is thinking of it as a life force that is larger than any one person (or all of humanity, for that matter) and not the god of any of the organ

there's plenty of mystery in the lyrics and plenty of mystery in the soul. that's one big reason some people DO talk about them and ponder them. you don't get to final answers, you know. it's contemplation of mystery itself.

as an agnostic, i hear the agnostic in jt. spiritual, full of possibilities, but put off by organized religion.

bard. good guess (you mean i don't sound like vassar material? ). and i need to correct something from the earlier post: only one parent dropped me off at bard. my mother refused to set foot on that campus because of too many long-haired and barefoot students for her taste. that was then, of course.

oh the nostalgia. the first time my parents dropped me off, and they were sad, i spent a lot of time sitting in a dry abandoned bathtub in the dorm's spooky old basement, writing bad poetry. lasted there just two months. the next time my parents dropped me off, the next year at another college, they couldn't wait to get rid of me. that second school was perfect, a whole new scruffy great world. in fact, it's pretty close to where bjorn survives, i believe. good luck, crow daddy, and be glad if she does well enough and has enough good times that she doesn't end up back home in the n
