  1. What i like about you - Romantics

you can make a case that the Romantics were a one-hit wonder, but you have the wrong song

they had one song in the top 30 and it reached No. 2

but it wasn't What I Like about You, it was Talking in your Sleep

One in a Million hit No. 37 and What I Like about You No. 41

i always thought When I Look in your Eyes was the best track on their first record

  2. Gilbert O Sullivan - Alone again, Naturally

actually, O'Sullivan had two other top-10 hits in the U.S. - Claire reached No. 2 and Get Down hit No. 7. he had a ton of hits in the UK

The Looking Glass - Brandi (you're a fine girl, what a good wife you will be...)

Rutgers-educated and New Jersey-born Elliott Lurie went from one of the finest 45s ever - Brandy - to one of the worst, the follow-up Jimmy Loves MaryAnn. The follow-up did get a lot of airplay and spent a few weeks in the top-40, peaking at No. 33. nonetheless, i would consider Looking Glass a one-hit wonder

did Hanson have more than mmmMbop?

two others in the US top 20 (including No. 9 I Will Come to You), numerous worldwide

  3. a friend with no knowledge of tweedy or farrar asked me to make mix CDs of each

  4. according to the mods on the forum, they're in the final stages of testing before getting the site back up after a major hack and a backup failure killed everything

nobody is sure what's going to happen with karma points or ratios, but at least the site will be back (hopefully)

    terrific site

  5. Pilot - "Magic"

    Sniff 'n the Tears - "Driver's Seat"

Two one-hit wonders that are darn good songs.

driver's seat is indeed a terrific little pop song

remember playing it on my college radio station a couple centuries ago

probably segued into Hey St. Peter by Flash and the Pan, another quality one-hit wonder

  6. Meh. If you don't like a song, press skip.

    oh, ok

so we're not allowed to burn our own CDs or make our own mixes?

that's one of your rules for people on this message board?

    just trying to be clear

don't want to break one of your rules

  7. Who did that chika-boom chika-boom, dontcha just love it song? That's gotta be a oneder.

when i think of a one-hit wonder, i think of Daddy Dewdrop, which reached No. 9 in 1971 with Chick-a-Boom and then disappeared
  8. I just think it's useless. I think it's useless when anyone goes into a thread about an artist for the sole purpose of slagging them. Yeah, it's a message board, but you know, saying you don't like him once is plenty. We get it, we are all very intelligent people here.

kind of like how you've now posted five times how much you dislike me! 14.gif

  9. Now I will proceed to say you suck 5 or 6 times over the course of this thread. Won't that be fun.

that's cool. your opinion is welcome here. like everybody else's

Blah, whatever, you don't like him. Go post about someone you do like.

    thanks for the kind words.

seriously, you have a thin skin if a couple negative posts about a hack like Jack Johnson bother you that much

it's a message board, brah ... lighten up ... it's all about opinions

  10. Calling them "humorous" may be a stretch, but the fact is, Buffett didn't seem to take himself too seriously. That's why his name shouldn't be invoked when talking about Jack Johnson, who seems dead serious about his suckitude.

    Johnsin is suck.

I am stunned by the complete lack of redeeming qualities in his music.

There are no melodies. There is no life. There is nothing even remotely musically inventive happening. His songs are a shapeless, lifeless pile of sludge.

He reminds me of the shit some self-absorbed high school kid would write after two weeks of guitar lessons.

The fact that this guy is so popular while a fucking genius like Jay Farrar toils in obscurity blows my mind.

  11. The Raspberries - Go All the Way (though Eric Carmen had other hits solo)

    no, again

the Raspberries hit No. 1 with Go all the Way but also charted with I Wanna Be with You (No. 16) and Let's Pretend (No. 35) - which were both superior tracks - and also Overnight Sensation (No. 18). And Tonight should have been a smash but only hit 69.

but more than this, the Raspberries were among the most influential and enduring power pop bands, cited by countless bands from the dBs to Guided By Voices as an inspiration

  12. America

    geeze, no

america -- for reasons i'll never understand -- had a succession of top-20 hits

sister golden hair ... i need you ... horse with no name ... lonely people ... ventura highway ... you can do magic ... tin man --- all made the top 10

and a bunch of others (daisy jane, don't cross the river, the border, today's the day, etc.) in the top 40

when i think of a one-hit wonder, i think of Daddy Dewdrop, which reached No. 9 in 1971 with Chick-a-Boom and then disappeared
