Minutemen - Double Nickles on the Dime... blew my mind the first time I heard it, still surprises me every time I listen to it now.
For me, "Three Way Tie (For Last)" is still near & dear to my musical heart............That record showed the path of where Boon was headed as a creative force to be reckoned with...

Because it was better than "Black Shampoo" -
I think I've (misguidedly) expressed my dislike for the Doors here on numerous occasions. But this looks very interesting. I'm begrudgingly learning to enjoy the band, if not the lyrics.
I have thought of putting you on "ignore"..........because of your post above.....I've changed my mind.

Nels isn't a problem to me. I have more problem with Mike's Yanni-esque piano parts which have like no tension at all. Jay had such a great approach to counter-point, and the whole mathematical side of music.
People love to diss on Jay, and act like he would've ruined the band, but all of his major co-songwriting contributions are among the boards favorite songs; I don't see anyone ever dissing Jesus Etc or Poor Places, yet Jay wrote parts of both of those songs (for Jesus, Etc, basically the whole instrumental part.)
I'm glad we have AGIB, but SBS was proof to me of how much they've suffered musically since Jay was booted.
could not agree more........

J. Mascis and Barlow buried the hatchet. So did Olson and Louris. But I don't see this happening anytime soon. In the cases of those bands, the bands fell apart after one of the members left. Wilco replaced Bennett and for better or worse has moved on since.

I think I agree with where you are coming from. I tend to prefer individuals with mediocre musical ability but lots of originality and creativity (neil young/jeff tweedy) I also have always preferred people with less that great voices but voices that grab me or are unique (j mascis/jeff tweedy) But a voice has to pull me in and some voices (like when I hear myself) don't pull me in. some people grab your attention and others don't. And for me the better the voice in musical terms the less it tends to grab me. This made no sense at all.
Yes, it DOES make sense.....
eg.....Conor Oberst's voice makes me wince, but I recognise his talents and music makes people happy.....so I leave it at that. It's just that simple.

No, I wasted the time to download it, listen to it and drag it to the trash the next day. Time I could have spent listening to something decent.
And, while Jay has always gotten on my nerves as far as his songwriting goes, I always give a guy a chance. I'd love to be surprised by something he does, which is why I listened to it. But, once again, he just doesn't have the talent that he thinks he has. Maybe next time. I've got time.
Boy.......you are a dipstick......

first of all, jay bennetts new album does NOT suck.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean. Jay's new album may sound great to the twelve people who can actually stand that terrible, over-affected voice and boring lyrics.
sheesh..........tell us how you REALLY feel.....
